I learned this version of the jazz standard by watching Johnny Hodges (the piano player not the saxophonist) play it in a video. For a long time I wanted to learn it and now I have. I hope that someday I can play it as well as he can. It starts out slower and then gets very fast. I hope I can get better at my glissandos soon. The song is named after the daughter of Dr. George Thaddeus Brown (a member of the Georgia House of Representatives) who told composer Ben Bernie about his daughter, Georgia Brown, and how after her birth on August 11, 1911, the Georgia General Assembly had issued a declaration that she was to be named Georgia after the state. This is why in the song's lyrics it says, "Georgia claimed her - Georgia named her": No gal made has got a shade on sweet Georgia Brown Two left feet, but oh so neat, has sweet Georgia Brown They all sigh and wanna die for sweet Georgia Brown I'll tell you just why, you know I don't lie, not much It's been said she knocks 'em dead when she lands in town Since she came why it's a shame how she cools 'em down Fellers she can't get are fellers she ain't met Georgia claimed her, Georgia named her Sweet Georgia Brown
Leander, you never cease to blow us all away with your performances. Because of this, your channel has now surpassed 1 million total views!!! 😱😳 Not many people manage to achieve this in 3 months, yet you have done so. Thanks for making 2024 an even better year for all of us viewers, Leander. It’s such a privilege to be able to listen to you for free. 🆓 Happy New Year, Leander & his family! I hope many more uploads are in the plans… maybe some more etudes? 😜
Someday, I'd like to see you do a video on how you learn to play a song. I think quite a few of your fans are fascinated by your talent and would love to see how you do it. ❤
Theres something interesting about watching this young guy playing pieces that are 100 years old, and making them sound new to the rest of us! Thanks, Leander! 🎶🎵🎶
Wow... your talent is amazing. But most of all, I am wishing that this music will be a lifetime source of joy for you, Leander. Wishing you all the best for 2025.
I think it is because since I was little i always liked to listen to music and think about music so much and I have a musical mind and would try to play songs on the piano
@ Leander, your answers make perfect sense to me! You were exposed to beautiful music from the very start, and you and music have grown together. Of course, it helps that you have a musical mind. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us.
The red shirt, the inimitable smile, and this great arrangement and interpretation of "Sweet Georgia Brown" are the perfect elements for another brilliant performance by our genius Leander! Happy New Year 2025!😊😁😇🤩
This Young Man is Simply Amazing!!! WOW!!! By the way, there was another TH-cam video that was "blocked" for comments....but I want to say I was very impressed with his piano playing on "Linus & Lucy...the Charlie Brown Theme"....THAT WAS EXCELLENT!!! GOOD JOB YOUNG MAN!!!
Well done! Love honey-tonk tune. A golden oldie played so wonderfully well. You look mighty spiffy in that shirt and trousers, Mr. Leander! Excelsior! Love, Pat💕
Leander, you are just incredible! Would be so kind to play the Cascades rag by Scott Joplin? I wish you a very good happy new year, to you, your family and your teachers!
I totally enjoyed that!! What a cool surprise that song was lol. It was a fun song too!! Thank you!!! You have been pumping out those songs too. I am super curious in how you learn a song so darn fast??? Do you have a secret computer upload into your brain ha ha ha. I admire you so much for the talents you have that rarely get mentioned!! First, your piano playing is an awesome talent! If people can't see that then they need to just move on lol Next, you learn a song it seems quite literally almost overnite! Then the talent of your memory! You seem to remember the whole darn song - is your brain going to explode one day ha ha ha (I'm only kidding heh heh) Then, I don't know if everyone will agree with me, but that SMILE you do - I think it is a secret talent - when you smile like that, I know I feel stupid, but it makes me smile too - no fair ha ha. Anyway, you are VERY appreciated!! Whoever is your friends in real life are really blessed cause you are an awesome dude!! Thank you - and thumbs up 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 PS I hope you are really having fun doing this, because if you are not, I would feel sad -
I am really glad that you liked it so much. I always have a lot of fun when I play piano. It is one of my favorite things to do. That is why I wanted to make this channel
I do like this piece. I remember hearing a recording of it played on four pianos with a trumpet at the West Coast Ragtime Festival. That was great. This performance is great too. You’re doing a great job of it.
@ I did try and record it once but wasn’t too pleased with how it came out. I’ll have a go again and see if I can make a better recording. If you have any requests I’m always happy to give them a try
Were always impressive but your presentation has improved tremendously. What was once a bit choppy has become refined and flows more evenly. All I know is you are a wonderful diversion from life's hussle and bustle. Thank you Leander...
I just watched the Johnny Hodges video you used to learn this piece. Both videos are wild, and I'm never going to stop being amazed by your ability to watch a video performance and then immediately recreate it from memory.
Wow!!!! I love that one it was fun. Everyday I'm just amazed at how well you play and how much better you're getting. Btw.... Don't think that handsome look goes unnoticed. That red shirt looks really great on you. Thanks again for giving us another fine performance. God Bless...
That was really cool! An oldie song that you made young again. You said it got fast, but I didn't imagine HOW fast...🎹🏃your fingers were flying! Great performance! Bravo👏and thank you for being a Super Entertainer! 🤗 Jerry
It's like you pressed the "Turbo" button on an old PC LOL...ask someone older what that meant back then when 90 Mhz was the limit for processor speed 🤣
Your house must be a 'jumpin joint! If I were your neighbors, I'd leave the windows open all day. I'm glad to see you branching out the styles a bit. I hope you enjoy the change. Thank you for what you do, and best wishes from North Carolina.
Hey, buddy! It's nice to see you on here today. You're not joking that the song gets really fast! It's amazing that the piano keys can keep up with the speed of your fingers. I think the glissandos sound great. You might or might not know, Sweet Georgia Brown was well know for being the theme song of the world-famous basketball team The Harlem Globetrotters. They were (and I guess still are) a "show" team. Their skills are amazing. It is like watching a choreographed basketball stage performance. I'm sure the current-day players are not the same as they were when I was a youngster, but I bet they are still every bit as entertaining. I think I might have to see if I can find a video or two of them. I haven't seen them perform in a long, long time. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they are still using Sweet Georgia Brown as their theme song, too. Editing to add: Here is a relatively new clip of the Globetrotters with Sweet Georgia Brown playing in the background. th-cam.com/video/0Kd8driG6_U/w-d-xo.html
Leander... WOW! That was awesome. I thought you were playing pretty fast in the beginning... but at the end, it felt like you were breaking the sound barrier! Excellent job. Please keep the good music coming!
🙌🤩 C'est un excellent morceau 👌 mais je ne savais pas qu'il y avait autant de variations de rythme 🤔 Je le connaissais avec une vitesse relativement rapide mais constante 😉🙏🏻 🥰❤️
