Because I recently saw four hummingbirds drinking out of my hummingbird feeder at the same time because there are four places for them to drink, today I wanted to play these two short songs about hummingbirds. The first one is called A Hummingbird, by Amy Beach (1932), who I think is one of the most interesting American composers. The second one is called Humming Bird, by William Gillock, a 20th-century composer who wrote many pedagogical pieces for children. This song is from his collection of 24 pieces called Lyric Preludes in Romantic Style.
Leander, I have a feeder out too. In Oregon we have 2 varieties that stay over winter. I put a short electric water pipe heater on the bottom of the feeder to keep it from freezing. I really enjoyed the songs. Thanks for playing for us. Charles
Oh my goodness! Listening to you play, I could actually see in my mind those little birds flitting around flowers and hummingbird feeders. I love hummingbirds and I know you do too.
A humming bird flew into my window once and dropped motionless to the ground. I thought it was dead but after about a minute she just flapped her wings and away she flew. I was so relieved. Good playing.
Dear Leander, you have brought me so much delight with your energy, joyful music and your smile. I play your music over and over because it so full of liveliness and loveliness. Yet please remember you are a boy, with a world full of things and adventures to discover. You are a famous pianist now, but you have the potential to be an explorer of an infinite world. Be Leander, wherever life beckons.
Honestly Leander I don't know how you do it. Those two pieces of music were not only beautiful but look very difficult to play. Thank you for taking the time to entertain us. You are unique and wonderful. God bless you
Exceptionally well played, Leander! Bravo! Bravissimo! I have never heard these pieces before, and I also love hummingbirds! Hummingbirds are utterly miraculous little birds, one of the great wonders of God's Nature! And you played with great understanding of the subject, as well as skill! Thank you for your dedication to this magnificent music that brings happiness and respite into so many lives, each day!
We have hummingbirds right outside our apartment here in Las Vegas, and the way they hover and dart around is very reminiscent of those pieces. You’ve conveyed their movement perfectly with your playing!
Hi Leander! Those were interesting and difficult songs, but beautiful to hear because you played them so well. Now I have to get my hummingbird feeder back into operation. Thanks for the music and reminder! God bless you and yours, 🙏 🤗 Jerry
Wonderful! I've been watching hummingbirds at my feeder all day, and these two pieces are just like them. I don't know why they haven't migrated yet--- weather has been in the low 30's for a week now! 🎶🎵🎶
I love hummingbirds, I have two feeders for them when they are here in the Spring and Summer, can't wait for them to return. You played those so well, especially the ending of the second piece!
I love the fact that you are inspired by nature in choosing these pieces. Also, thanks to your channel I have learnt more about Amy Beach. I have been reading up about her. A fascinating person.
Thank you Leander for those two pieces! Hummingbirds are so beautiful, and I’m delighted that you were fascinated by the ones at your feeder. I really enjoyed your selections today!

Hi Leander😀😀 Thanks for playing these two songs. I really enjoyed your performance. Two days ago you played {Old French Song" from (Children's Album) by Tchaikovsky. That also sounded great! Have you heard of Golliwog's Cakewalk (Children's Corner, L.113) by Debussy? I have enjoyed that selection since I was a child growing up. If you could learn that piece, I think you would be happy with it. Thanks!
Oh how nice to hear these songs. When we lived in Florida, we had hummingbirds in our garden. Wonderful memories! 👍 Thanks a lot Leander! Irene from Switzerland
Hey, buddy! I was just getting ready to shut down my computer for the night, but I'm glad I still had it on so I could see this video. I like both of those songs. They are short, but entertaining and fun. I think I like the second one a little better than the first one, but both are good and you did a nice job playing them. Have a good evening and take care.
@Leander-piano You're welcome! With my vision still being quite blurry I can't tell for sure, but did you get some orthodontic work done? I got braces when I was in 8th grade, so I was 13 years old. My son got his when he was at least two or three years younger than that, just about as soon as all his permanent teeth had fully come in. If I'm mistaken, lets just blame it on my bad eyesight. 😄
Leave Leander's hair alone! It has it's own ego and has to be protected at all costs! 🤣😂🤣 Seriously, it's his own decision, if he likes to have full hair - I don't think it looks bad...

If you learn Edward MacDowell's "To a Hummingbird" you will have a nice set of three hummingbird songs. Keep up the good work!
wow just amazing, you have just blown some of your critics right out of the water. thank-you Leander for this sensational performance.
The other way round. It just demonstrated that critics are helpless. It is very poorly played and there is no intention to improve.

Thank you, Leander. Hmm. I think I like the second one best, though the first makes interesting use of dissidence.
You should be able to master "Flight of the bumble bee" by Rimsky-Korsakov pretty easily. 😅
