    An excellent choice for your first steam loco! Another example of how Hornby at its best is hard to beat.
    If I didn't have a P2 already, then I would definitely acquire an example. Still tempted, though....!

    Nicely filmed review Eugene,especially showing cab and tender views.Appears a very detailed and decent runner, I also think if you can get the top version at around £260.00 that's excellent value today.

      Thanks Peter. Yes, I got it at a 20% discount so at that price I think it is very good value for what is a very complete package.

    Overall a great review here Euvirail, as I said on your running session video of this loco I had recently picked one of these models up and I’m very pleased with it, first off it’s my first steam locomotive to be sound fitted, I have quite a collection of sound fitted locos now but they have mainly been DMUs, diesel and electric locomotives, originally I wasn’t intending to pick up Prince of Wales as I had my sights set on the currently available model of P2 2002 Earl Marishal but after seeing the Flying Scotsman released with the steam generator I decided that I wanted to try this steam generator out for myself but I didn’t want Flying Scotsman as I already had a model of Flying Scotsman in my collection, initially I thought I wouldn’t be able to get one of these P2s, many places have already sold out of the model but luckily one retailer had one left so I bought it, as I have said it’s a model I’m very pleased with, the steam generator really adds a new level to the locomotive, hornby should be congratulated for being able to not only do this but have it operate correctly with the steam and sound synchronised, that alone is fantastic as from what I have seen and heard steam sounds have always been a bit difficult to get right before, onto the HM7000 I am a big fan of this dcc system, currently I have 3 locomotives fitted with the TXS decoders and my experience of the system has been very good so far, it has been so good in fact that I have been looking at a lot of models in my collection and seeing if they have the capabilities to have HM7000TXS decoders fitted, as I said I originally wasn’t going to get Prince of Wales but I’m very glad I did, buying this model actually made me buy a bachmann model of A1 60163 Tornado to replace my hornby one which has a problem with its motor so I have both of the new build locomotives from the A1 and P2 Locomotive trusts in model form and they look great sat next to each other no doubt that will be a scene we see when Prince of Wales is finally complete, great review overall here Euvirail, yours looked great with the pullmans, I need to get my one on some form of layout at some point, currently I’m stuck with a small section of track or my rolling road.

    • @EuviRail
      @EuviRail  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for sharing that and your experience with the TXS decoders. As I mentioned in the review I tend to use Bluetooth control rather than DCC when I have the option - it's just so convenient. Best of luck in getting a layout together. These locos deserve some space to have a proper running session.

    Seems really impressive! Thank you for the excellent and interesting review. Must admit that neither Bluetooth control nor steam generators are likely to be a feature of smaller steam locos in OO for the foreseeable future, but many people like the big locomotives.

    That's a nice model from Hornby and I like the new packaging as well. Well done Hornby on their new more protective packaging. Eugene, have you considered covering any of the Hornby Dublo models (the newer gen ones post-2020)? I would love to hear your videos on those models. All the best, Peter.

      @EuviRail  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Peter, yeah, a lovely model. I now have my definitive P2 which is great. On the Dublo front, I had ordered a discounted A4 Bittern from Rails, but it had a bad out of box paint defect unfortunately so I am negotiating it's return. I didn't find the overall paintwork as good as the plastic models so I'm actually returning it for a refund. I had a beautiful rake of closely coupled Bachmann Mk1s waiting for it on the track but it's not happening now.

      Thanks for that. I'm sorry to hear that trouble with the front pony truck. My own is quite loose fitting even though I haven't had a problem with it. May need to go back to Hornby if you can't resolve. I've found them pretty good with returns like this if you can live without the model for a few weeks.

    I do enjoy your informative and clearly presented reviews, thank you. Regarding the pulling power of this locomotive, you mention that the cause is due to lack of weight. I would have thought that if lack of weight was the problem, then the loco would simply spin its wheels when loaded. Therefore I would expect that the actual issue is that the motor is just not powerful enough. Please correct me if I am misunderstanding.

    • @EuviRail
      @EuviRail  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Ian. I have had feedback from some viewer experiencing wheel slip with this model under load. I didn't notice this myself but then again I don't have any inclines on the layout and I didn't go beyond the 7 Pullman coaches. What I did see was a fall off in speed for a given power level between no coaches and when pulling the seven. You wouldn't tend to see this drop off on a heavier locomotive.

    As the owner of a Hornby LIve Steam set, I would be wary. My live steam loco has had to be sent back to Hornby for repairs. It has now gone wrong again and is out of warranty! The steam and sound is a great novelty feature, but my worry would be how long it runs before it packs up! Time will tell! Thanks for uploading.

    I have both the p2 and the Scotsman with steam and find the p2 much better with the steam function.The Scotsman having a smaller chimney develops a film through water tension after a while running easily fixed with a piece of tissue or cotton bud but you shouldn’t really have to at these prices.Some TH-camrs say this can be fixed with a few cv tweaks but it didn’t work for me also I saw someone say they ran a cotton bud with a tiny amount of wd40 around the inside of the chimney to stop the water tension forming but as yet I’ve not tried this but both models do look and run great.

    How have you found the TXS decoders? I'm someone who likes a more linear control on my engines and If i have a decoder I expect it to be a good one!

    • @EuviRail
      @EuviRail  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Overall, I've been pleased with them and the level of linearity has probably been better than I've experienced out of the box with ESU based models though obviously you can get down and dirty with the ESU decoders, probably more so that the TXS ones. Given the price differential and improved user experience I tend to go for TXS decoders whenever I can, assuming a suitable locomotive profile is available. With locos like the Accurascale 66 I still tend to go with the standard factory fitted sound offering as this will support all the extra lighting functions and be tuned appropriately.

      @@hotdogpilot6319I bought one of the new hornby Black 5s very recently, the one I picked up was the BR Late Crest one named the Glasgow Highlander, on my model the drawbar has not given me any issues at all, it’s been very reliable for me and many others, when it comes to the issue you are referring to yes there was a minor issues that was reported but looking at the issue it seems to have been isolated to the LMS version and even when it was being reported the amount of models that were shown to be affected was a very low number of them, don’t let what other people say and show in this models influence your decisions especially if what they are showing is an issue on the model they have bought, most times the issue is isolated to their model and the likelihood of you having the same issue is relatively low, I bought my black 5 a couple of weeks after the drawbar issue had been shown online and I can tell you it was the correct decision to buy it, as I have said my black 5 has been an excellent example and has not not exhibited any of the issues that have been reported, if you want one of the new black 5 models especially the one with the steam generator just go and buy it when it’s available.

    The excuse you give at the beginning few seconds of this video for running a steam train on your layout, it’s pathetic I have never understood people that model a particular era and then say oh well I would love to run this other locomotive but it doesn’t gel it doesn’t blend in with the year the decade I’m modelling that’s just sad you know just because you’re run modern air diesels for example on your layout and you really love a pacific steam train oh my God just buy it and run it round the layout does it really make any difference? You can still go back to running a timetable with your modern diesels and I will later after having a bit of a run around with the steam train or vice versa run steam is layout and fancies your diesel. Shouldn’t need an excuse if you have the means to buy it buy it run it have fun, if you have to find a reason and an excuse to be able to fit that in in your world/layout you’re losing some of the fun

      Don't worry Rob, I'll always find an excuse for a model I like! I wanted to check out one of these steam models and as a per-existing fan of the P2 this one ticked all the boxes. The other issue of course can be rolling stock if you're not modelling a particular era. Thankfully, I have multiple options to match with this model.
