Word to the wise: use 3000mhz+ RAM on Ryzen 1000. The RAM settings make your system way snappier and yield better frame rate in games. Not sure if you tuned your RAM in the video or not. I probably missed it when you said it.

Excelente video.

I recently picked up 16gb 3200, 16gb 3000, and 12 gb 2666 ddr4 for $30 and was wondering if I could slap 32gb in and make an awesome budget rig for cheap! also gtx 1080s are going for about $90(no fan, add a case fan and temps are awesome) and I wanted to pair it with this, Havent been able to find many good deals on craigslist recently so I turned to aliexpress and ebay to make a great price/performance system.

I am using FX 6300 in my dedicated Win7 machine. Paired with more reasonable RX 5600XT. Also clocked to 4,2GHz. It's a sweet spot IMO. It could get higher easily but few extra frames you gain aren't worth increased energy consumption. As Win7 computer, my FX has easier life as I mostly play games from this era on this machine. But yeah, it can run Baldur's Gate 3.

great video, I ordered this exact mobo+cpu+ram for a budget gaming pc. I sell pc's and options like these are great when my local market isnt offering any good deals and ebay is too expensive. I've never used any xeons and am interested in trying it out and getting good performance. Ill be pairing the combo with a gtx 970 as well. Also gtx 1080s can be had for about 100 on ebay with no fans, I got one for another build and zip-tied a case fan on it, thermals are amazing, would you recommend that combo for budget 1080p gaming?

Hi, new subscriber here as of Jun 23, 2024. I like the presentation of the video, the steps were easy to follow but, somehow after multiple tries, I could not boot into Sorbet Leopard R15. I have the Mac Mini G4 PPC with OS 10.5.8. The partition I created for Clone Sorbet is an external SSD hard drive. The clone was completed successfully but when I went to Startup Disk the drive was not present so I knew it would not boot to Sorbet. I tried it anyway but no such luck. On another attempt, I did get the blinking ? I tried holding down the alt key during startup and only the original Ma HDD drive displayed. I tried the same with a few flash drives and the results are the same No Sorbet Leopard. Haven't the foggiest idea why the set is not working for me.

Partition it (40, 90, 126) clone the original Hard drive to the 40GB, CCC Sorbet to the 90GB, and use the 126GB for Time Machine. Hopefully, this resolves my issue because an external flash drive or hard drive (mine; NVMe SATA SSD ) did not work. In fact quick way to check was to open the Startup Disk utility and see if my NEW drive was listed. It wasn't so therefore I knew the Sorbet would not boot up. Thought?

It booted only on every second try (later found out that was an incompatibility with the USB controller on the mainboard) and was running not very stable in general. Was desperate at some point of time and decided to give Windows 2000 a try. A difference like day and night. Everything was working as it should right after installing the chipset drivers, it was also running much more stable. Used it for some years until I switched to Windows XP sometime around 2004. :)

My 2000 rig in 2024 : Intel Core i3 9100f, Gigabyte B365M-DS3H, EVGA GTX 460 768MB GDDR5, 2x8GB G-Skill DDR4-2400 (only using around 3.5GB), Onboard Intel USB3 and SATA, Onboard Realtek Audio and GbE LAN, LG Sata DVD drive, 1TB Hitachi SATA HDD from June 2007, and a Corsair CX650M PSU. I have 2 1920x1080 monitors hooked up to it. I have had this 2000 install going since July or August of last year, and still going solid to this day. I also use 2000 Advanced Server, so all 4 cores are detected. For drivers, I got everything figured out; none of the drivers I used required the extended kernel, although I only use it because as of now there are no solid web browser choices that I know of for vanilla 2000, so I have to use stuff like Mypal which is for XP and up with the extended kernel. If it wasn't for that, I would be using vanilla sp4 2000. Obviously, Realtek is amazing with legacy support, so I just used their latest 2000/XP driver package for the audio and LAN. For the Intel SATA and XHCI (USB3) controller, I am using some modded drivers that I found on the MSFN forums. The sata drivers can be integrated using nLite; however the USB3 drivers cannot just be integrated, so a PS/2 keyboard is required to install it, and it needs to be installed from a DVD. Also, the USB3 driver won't work with ACPI or PAE, so when the setup first starts loading, you need to spam F5, and once the menu comes up hit the up arrow and select, "MPS Multiprocessor PC". Modern motherboards won't work with 2000's stock ACPI anyway, so either way you would need to do this or 2000 won't boot. You could also do Standard PC mode, but then you can only use 1 core. Also, it is important that in the BIOS that the "Above 4G Decoding" setting is disabled, or when you install the USB driver it will blue screen. For the video card, I used the official 258.96 XP driver from nvidia's website, which supports up to the GTX 480. Despite NVIDIA lying and making people think the GeForce 7 series was the last for 2000, it actually works completely fine on vanilla 2000 (including dualview and the control panel), but you need to manually extract the exe package using something like 7-Zip, and install it manually in the device manager because if you install it with the installer the HD audio driver will cause 2000 to blue screen because the HD audio driver is the only part of it that is not compatible. Also after installing this driver and rebooting you may notice that it gets stuck on "Preparing Network Connections" for a while. To fix this, go to services.msc and disable "NVIDIA Display Driver Service". This is actually not necessary for any part of the driver running despite its name and after rebooting again you will notice that it will boot significantly faster. Other chipset drivers really aren't necessary in my experience, it seems to run fine even without them. To install updates, I used Legacy Update, and from there I installed the extended kernel, and I am able to browse the internet fairly well, I installed ublock origin and popup blocker ultimate on mypal and it makes things even better. I even do banking occasionally on there, but I mainly use Windows 7. I played doom 3 on there, which has always been one of my favorite games, and it runs great, even while using bandicam to screen record. I only use a 460 instead of a 480 because I just so happened to have one laying around, and right now it is way more than enough for anything that I do on windows 2000, but maybe eventually I will upgrade to a 480. If I could go back to daily driving 2000 I would, but sadly there are things I need something a bit newer for right now. But I really don't need anything newer than 7, and maybe with time I could go back to daily driving 2000. Who knows. All I can say is I still believe 2000 is far better than XP, and I do not get the people that say XP is better for gaming. 2000 also has DX9 support, while at the same time being a lighter and more stable OS. The only reason I would choose XP/2003 over 2000 is if I wanted x64, but if I am going to use 32 bit, it is going to be 2000.

I never went to XP. I went from 2000 to 2003 - 2003 was a server version, but it was "popular" back then to install and configure it as a workstation OS, and it worked very well.

As amazing as 2000 was for the time (and it was indeed utterly amazing)... I just never saw a point to running it over Windows XP. Yeah, 2000 is somewhat lighter on the resources, but XP already runs soooo damn light that if you were really that strapped for resources where running 2000 would actually make a significant difference, then there probably isn't much at all you can do with that PC in the first place anyway.
