Dan Wesson DWX Optic Ready: CZ + 1911?
Spent some time looking under the hood of a Dan Wesson DWX Optic Ready - Is it a 1911? Is it a CZ? Best of both?
Just sharing my thoughts of what I could see as I was taking it apart.

    Yes, there are plenty of videos demonstrating that 1911/2011's and Staccatos are not drop safe. Is it unlikely for them to be dropped? Yes. Is it unlikely that if dropped it will go off? Yes. But, no, they are not drop safe. Old school boomers that just love 1911s and people whose cognitive dissonance won't allow them to say anything bad about their $2500 Staccato are the people who don't like this discussion.

      The gun on this video is a Tactical Sports Orange, not a Shadow2 - There are some differences on the trigger group between the 2 models when it comes to put it together again. Other than that they are pretty similar indeed.

      I'm not sure a stainless steel slide lock pin on a Shadow2 is the best idea - Isn't stainless steel softer than carbon or hardened steel? If so, I would think it will snap even more prematurely... Keep a backup is my advice :).

    Recently Garand Thumb tested dropping firearms by dropping them on the barrel. For some guns, they did go off without dropping the hammer due to the inertia of the firing pin. I wonder if the CZ S2C would as well

    • @czarmorer
      @czarmorer 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      There is at least one video I've seen here in youtube of somebody dropping a full size shadow2 barrel down several times and it did not go off. There was also at least one video in IG in which a professional shooter did the same test and dropped a full size shadow2 on a concrete floor, barrel down, and it did not go off. The firing pin spring on a CZ shadow is a very different design than the one use on 1911s. I wouldn't think there is enough inertia to beat the OEM CZ FP spring by just dropping the gun barrel down on a hard floor...

    Thank you for the instructions! 10:30 so, the disconnector will have no negative or noticable impact when converting to SAO? The only benefit would be, that you don´t have to completly disassamble the gun for just changing the trigger?

    • @czarmorer
      @czarmorer 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It could get in the way, but it isn't a consistent behavior I noticed. The best thing to do is really just to remove it. You don't want something there that has no function whatsoever and it then becomes potentially just one more thing to get in the way of the gun operating 100% well.

    • @czarmorer
      @czarmorer วันที่ผ่านมา

      You're welcome - Answerin your questions: 1 - No, an OEM Shadow2 hammer is too wide for the SP-01 slide body. It will not work unless you refit it to the SP-01. 2 - The Cajun's race hammer is narrow enough and it will work on both the Shadow2 and SP-01 Shadow.

    Can you do a similar test and analysis on how to reduce recoil and muzzle flip as you did in the video expectations versus reality?

    • @czarmorer
      @czarmorer 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think that's a great subject to put a video together! Thank you for the suggestion. It does involve (in my view) a lot of myths though. My view on this is that recoil management is a lot more about fundamentals, as how one grips the gun for instance, and much less about springs, weight ratio, reciprocating mass and other fancy physics terms :). That's not to say that a gun will not move differently when using different springs, weight ratio etc. It will for sure! But this is just to say that the differences achieved won't really be what makes one shoot more proficiently.

  • @awalker425
    @awalker425 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Hitting something with a hammer does not replicate the inertia you would see on different parts when dropped. If the extended firing pin made contact, that would also mean that more force on the rear of the gun with the standard firing pin would do the same thing. That's balancing a fine line that I don't want to have worry about in a carry gun.

    The replacement triggers from CZUSA web store have the pretravel tabs if folks want to change that or get another color or profile. EGW makes a safety that is the same design with the hammer pin acting as the retainer for the right side safety. I suspect they make the safeties for the DWX or they did on the first edition. CZUSA store also has replacement safeties. The recoil spring from CZ/Dan Wesson is said to be 11lbs but the CGW P10F green 13lb spring is lighter and fits and functions perfectly. Some of the grips may interfere with the trigger bow I've shaved the inside of the top of some Lok grips for clearance. The optics ready version takes the same grip screws as the CZ pistols the original DWX used 1911 grip screws. Oh and the gun comes with the 1911 tool you reference. its the 10-8 performance tool. Its probably in the box with the manual and trigger lock. Thanks for the long form run down. The gun is very easy to work on hopefully we will see more support with safeties, slide stops etc.

Not sure the kit will make it any better than this. of course I still need to make sure the gun is actually working beyond just dry firing...

    • @czarmorer
      @czarmorer วันที่ผ่านมา

      Once the hammer falls the trigger bar slides underneath the sear, losing contact with it, which allows the sear to go back in its resting position. As the trigger returns, the slide keeps pushing the trigger bar down while the gun is out of battery - when the gun is back in battery and the trigger moves back forward, the trigger bar will eventually raise again and reengage the sear (that's the reset in single action).

    You would need to test dropping it onto staright down onto the muzzle as that would be the most likely to set it off. From the inertia of the firing pin hitting the primer. Even Staccatos and nighthawks go off while doing that with the safety off. Since there is no firing pin block on series 70. Id be curious if cz has shorter or titanium firing pins to avoid this

    • @czarmorer
      @czarmorer 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @xxpx2 no, I would not. Just read the comments here.. the test you're talking about is not what was testing here. The test you're suggesting has been performed though (check other videos here in TH-cam) and the gun did not go off. The test I did was due to a real scenario where the gun felt hammer first and it did go off causing a fatal accident in competition.

    Good vid. One problem I've run into when fitting aftermarket interrupters in Tanfo's is that the gun will drop back into DA function during an SA trigger pull. What causes this? Greasing the contact surfaces usually eliminates it. But some guns operate 100% in dry fire with all the parts dry.

    • @czarmorer
      @czarmorer วันที่ผ่านมา

      This happens when the timing in the interrupter is wrong... I don't know how by simply lubricating the parts you make it work. That I can't explain, but potentially with the interrupter slipping by being lubricated it changes the timing somehow and allow the gun to work again.. Not sure but it's only explanation I can offer.

      @@czarmorer I have 3 Stock 2's, all fit with Bolos. The tightest of the 3 guns is the one that had the problem. The trigger bar can move slightly higher as it moves rearward from full-cock to fire in SA. So the bottom of the interrupter wing can get very close to hitting the bar as it moves back forward. Removing a very small amount of material from the bottom edge of the wing solved this for me. You can see the same thing when fitting SA with the Bolo. The interrupter sits lower and lower relative to the trigger bar as material is removed from the hook. This can be influenced some by grinding the arc forward instead of straight upward. Depending on the specific parts, gun and fitment in question, I guess the timing can sort itself out or not. The fit I'm taking about on the wing is a little less than you'd probably need if you got SA working but there wasn't enough clearance for DA to break properly. I expect hammer geometry is also a factor. All 3 of my guns have Unica hammers. I guess fouling can further influence the trigger bar's position. My problem started occurring at about 5k rounds. Cleaning and lubing the gun got rid of it until the fouling built up again.

I am struggeling with a problem that after I installed an eemantech disconnector I was able to trigger in single action (hammer pulled back by hand) and double action as long as I don't pull back the slide. If I do so, my trigger won't move.....it's almost like i put on safety, which I didn't. It just stays in a rear position and won't let me trigger or even push it back forward or anything. I have to take apart everything until I get the sear cage out. After I put it back together, the same game starts again. After I put the original disconnector back in, I didn't have that problem anymore...... Have you ever heard of that kind of problem? Maybe you read that and we might get in contact. Thx anyway.....

    • @czarmorer
      @czarmorer 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The ET disco is likely oversized so you have to fit it to make sure you can reset in Single Action again. You will need to remove material from the ET disco on the hook face - the area where it engages with the trigger bar when you manually pulling the hammer back. Try filing that area just a bit and see if the behavior changes - If by doing so you can start moving the trigger, even so slightly, then you will know that this is what you need to keep doing until the trigger can fully reset in SA again.

      You mean when I had the OEM firing pin in it? If so the explanation is that is exactly the extended firing pin which causes the situation in which the FP touches the primer upon impact on the hammer. The same doesn't happen when using the OEM FP + FP spring.

    Not only did this man just prove to the world that our beloved Shadow 2 Compacts are drop safe, but this fine gentleman is also a blood donor. Thank you for your service, kind Sir.

    So the only part that is not interchangeable is the recoil spring? Everything else is interchangeable

      I would say that whole area, including the barrel, recoil spring and guide rod are of different dimensions enough not to be interchangeable. Something else I can think of is the grip panels (same reason, they are different dimensions), and magazines (you can use the full size ones on the compact but not the vice-versa). Everything else seems to be exact the same.

    I recently tried to do a little polishing on my Sig 226 9 mm to try out polishing before I get the courage to try it on my CZ 75 TS orange. I did just a little polishing and it really made a noticeable difference. Things are so much smoother than before. Now I just need to try it on my orange. You have great videos. This is my second time watching this one. Thank you, Take care, Be safe.

      You're welcome! The TSO really doesn't need much polishing anywhere - so choose carefully what you need to polish on it...
