You right about Mat and Ifke they build a wonderful boat I followed them from the beginning they done a great job she is also very good in here works but that’s because she is Dutch just like my😊. But your boat building I followed you almost also from the beginning I like people that can build things with there hands. I build also boats but not from beginning but rebuilt them to total different boot.

Hi Steve, that varnish looks great, how many coats did you put on? Will you be sanding that undercoat before you paint? Great video and great music, it helps me chill out. Be careful for that heat, 104 nothing to be messing with. 👍

I really appreciate the never give up comment. My first boat, a 16 foot gaff wooden sail boat. When I turned the hull, I was ready to give up. Almost took a match to the whole thing. Two and a half summers later, I was done. I presented it at Mystic Sea Port in 2015 at the annual Wooden Boat show in the amateur 'I built it myself' group. Yes, if I had to do it all over again, I'd start with all the small pieces. I've noticed that very few people build a boat alone. There is a lesson there! Happy Holidays and have an inspired New Year!

Merry christmas Steve! The ship is looking great. The contrast inside of the white and wood strips looks very nautical! Im looking forward to seeing the pour foam for the sides that I think that you mentioned that you will do. Really that will make her unsinkable and add a lot of strength I would think. Once you put the ship in the River will it stay there in the water year round or will you put it on the hard for part of the year? Interestingly I worked in Broome north of Perth about 14 years ago on a short term project for a potential LNG Terminal near Broome we were drilling bore holes to take seabed samples, interesting area sort of barren but with very red dirt! When we were in Perth we would walk from I think; King George Terrace? to the Lucky Shag Pub (That was the name of the Pub for sure) on the Swan river, nice place around there. OK looking forward to the next video in the new year.

Steve, I don’t mean to be a pest or a know it all. My opinion is based on experience. I’ve built both conventional hull and flat bottom boats. I do have a suggestion for you if you are interested but if you don’t care about it that’s ok too. I want to tell you something I went through whilst building a 47’ river boat many years ago for a close friend. It’s been in the water since June of 1977 and is still running like a top. Anyway, when building my flat bottom boat I wanted to have proper ballast but it’s difficult with a flat bottom boat hull. Instead of laying a single layer of brick down I designed the following: I purchased some 10’ long x 4” SOLID LEAD PIPE. I THEN ripped in half the pipe along the entire length. That left 2 equal pipes. Half round lead can be fastened to the flat hull easily. I installed the lead with ZERO through hull holes. Instead, I laid the half pipe in a generous bed of 3M 5200 marine sealant and blended it in to the hull. You would think that it would come off after awhile but you’d be wrong. That 5200 stuff is insanely efficient and works great. It will never detach from the hull until you want it too. It gave the boat a sturdy feel and will make your boat feel glued to the water. It’s what I did but to each his own Steve. You’re doing a great job mate! 👍

Everything looks amazing Steve, love that look of white surfaces with wood accents. I worked on homes for over 37 years, mostly on homes built in the early 1900's and in that time masked up quite a bit of wood beams, trim and hardware, I feel your struggle here. I used an old picture frame on big jobs, laid down a bunch of tape strips on the glass or plastic and cut a bunch of short pieces for the corner/hardware work with a knife. No disrespects intended here, not telling you how to do your job.....just thought I'd mention it. Anyways great job and hope Miss Maple is staying cool.
