Hey Brian. I’ve been really happy with the 42” grapple. I can say that with this grapple on my 35G, I can pick a Doug Fir log that’s 18’ long and 24” in diameter. It’s all it can do, I mean all it can do… All in all. It’s been really good. I do break Al out of fittings on it because I’m not at all careful and they do stock out a bit and are a little vulnerable to whacking them on stuff.

Thanks for watching! I love it and it’s been a very reliable machine! I would definitely get it again if I had to do it all over again. If I had to change anything I would have gotten the diesel engine and the extra hydraulic backstops. I do have to say that the gas engine is very good and has plenty of power and is extremely reliable though.

It comes with the flat plate then you will need to purchase and weld the adapters to the flat plate.

Hello, my mini is equipped with a diverted valve so I can run the thumb or if I switch it, it will divert flow to a coupling that I plug the grapple into.

I’m not sure. When I get the filter packs from Deere it’s included so I assume it’s every time one changes the main hydraulic filter.

The logs need to be really close to the same size for it to work well.

What machine did you use it on? I used a micro switch and installed it on the left stick. I had a lot of trouble with buttons wearing out, and I finally figured out that micro switches were the way to go. It works pretty well and I haven’t lost one yet.

They are holding up pretty well considering the abuse. The rotator is leaking a little and one of the bolts holding it together stripped out but it still works.

Yeah, grapple’s take a lot of abuse. Sounds like a new seal kit and a heli- coil and you’re good as new.

Yes, I believe so. Just start out flat and keep it that way.

Log arch

It’s an arch used for skidding logs behind a Cat. We used to use them for skidding extremely large logs. They pull easier when one end is suspended.

You are correct, it's such beautiful wood. I'm hoping to integrate some of it into my house at some point.

@Cascadia Lumberworks nice! Great idea. It's very stable once seasoned from my experience. It's been my favorite wood ever since I discovered it about 10 years ago. I work with it a lot and I've never been poisoned or any ill health effects from touching it and being around the dust all the time. I do wear a dust mask or a respirator just to be safe.

I really like mine. It’s been really reliable and very handy; You’ll love it!

@@patblanzy8653 Oh Yeah, your tractor is a bit larger than mine so you will probably have better luck. I guess the one thing that I found was to be really aware of where the forks reach under the building to make sure it's not "Front heavy" and the building has good contact with the forks.

Hello and thanks for watching! I tend to under explain in my videos and you are correct in that I do have 2 piles of boards. One pile is for boards that make the grade and one pile is for boards that don't make the grade but are determined at the time to be at least fairly good. Boards may not make grade for various reasons. They may be an odd size or they may have some kind of defect such as bugs, rot, cracks, knots, etc. All of the boards that have a defect serious enough to not make the good pile go into either the scrap pile or into the "Weird Board" pile as I like to call it. Scrap pile boards go straight to the burn pit and the "Weird Boards" get evaluated later and many go into the pit and many get used for other things or are re-sawn to a different size. The reason that there are so many weird boards on the last 2 videos is that I was having some trouble with my saw in Part 1 of the 2 videos and the logs were kind of buggy and had some rot in them. The logs that I used are from Western Red Cedar trees that were well over 40 years old and I noticed, on my property anyway, that the older Cedars tend to have lots of bugs and rot in them. They are nice big logs, but contain lots of defect. Anyway, I hope this help to clarify what I am actually doing there.

Sorry, I don't have them any longer. Cedar is a bit hard to come by but I have lots of fir to sell if you're interested in that.

Pieces that I can salvage smaller boards from. I would like to come to Cascadia when you have more reject to check them out. Next Spring I want to replace our decking with cedar 2x6s. Can you elaborate on ‘backwards and upside down’ please? Do you have a pic of what you did? I had very little idea of what to do when I got it so I just did it. It’s worked really well so far.. I’m always looking for a better way.

hello and thanks for watching!. I am really happy with the grapple and I think the size for this excavator is perfect. I believe if I had a larger excavator I would get a larger grapple. I do like how it swings and rotates and isn’t fixed so it makes it a lot easier to swing the logs in tight spaces. I would definitely buy it again.
