When AI Surpasses Humans
The profound world of Ghost in the Shell gives us moments that ask us a lot of philosophical questions about ourselves, our consciousness and Artifical Intelligence (AI).

    It's becoming clear that with all the brain and consciousness theories out there, the proof will be in the pudding. By this I mean, can any particular theory be used to create a human adult level conscious machine. My bet is on the late Gerald Edelman's Extended Theory of Neuronal Group Selection. The lead group in robotics based on this theory is the Neurorobotics Lab at UC at Irvine. Dr. Edelman distinguished between primary consciousness, which came first in evolution, and that humans share with other conscious animals, and higher order consciousness, which came to only humans with the acquisition of language. A machine with only primary consciousness will probably have to come first. What I find special about the TNGS is the Darwin series of automata created at the Neurosciences Institute by Dr. Edelman and his colleagues in the 1990's and 2000's. These machines perform in the real world, not in a restricted simulated world, and display convincing physical behavior indicative of higher psychological functions necessary for consciousness, such as perceptual categorization, memory, and learning. They are based on realistic models of the parts of the biological brain that the theory claims subserve these functions. The extended TNGS allows for the emergence of consciousness based only on further evolutionary development of the brain areas responsible for these functions, in a parsimonious way. No other research I've encountered is anywhere near as convincing. I post because on almost every video and article about the brain and consciousness that I encounter, the attitude seems to be that we still know next to nothing about how the brain and consciousness work; that there's lots of data but no unifying theory. I believe the extended TNGS is that theory. My motivation is to keep that theory in front of the public. And obviously, I consider it the route to a truly conscious machine, primary and higher-order. My advice to people who want to create a conscious machine is to seriously ground themselves in the extended TNGS and the Darwin automata first, and proceed from there, by applying to Jeff Krichmar's lab at UC Irvine, possibly. Dr. Edelman's roadmap to a conscious machine is at arxiv.org/abs/2105.10461

    Wow. This was really dope! I knew from the title we in for a ride filled with Gems. I realized with flow, there's a starting point which has to be achieved first, and once one uses their discipline to start, the flow can eventually become from there. And the more you feed your reward center of the brain, the more easier and possible it becomes. For example, you sit back and look at the masterpiece you've created from that, it inspires or gasses you up for the next one because now there is love and excitement involved. And you've seen the possibilities. You sleep looking forward to getting to it again the next day. And your body also adapts from that practice til' it becomes second nature. Good Feedback also plays a role in the reward center being juiced. But the trick is once the pattern is broken, you'd have to restart the process of STARTING. Lol some don't even return once they broke that pattern. The brain is such a tricky device

      Yeah i was just wondering (not hate) if he said that these people who steal fall off ,then how does this make you a great artist if it's not sustainable to do so? Is it that you don't straight up copy and paste without intention but copy and paste art with the intention and thought that it would elevate your ideas and way of conveying a message?!

    • @tocide
      @tocide หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would say stealing isn't what makes a great artist. What makes one a great artist is in the human values that is ever changing. We humans easily recognize patterns and that is a sign of comfort, nostalgia flash and familiarity. I think that's a better way of saying than this "Stealing is what makes someone GREAT" phrase. All the originals are arguably more timeless for a reason, and it's because they paved a way that has never been done before, and after a while one will understand the perspective of the original and see what kind of gem it really is and then replicate then elevate it themselves, that's how it usually works. Stealing, personally, is justified when it is so impactful and adds a new color, and I think that's what this guy is trying to say. Also about the A.I section. I think the fear against A.I actually does matter for the future. I think the fear must exist so that it could be delivered better, fear that creates a meaningful impact that is. A.I takeover is inevitable, everybody have seen the A.I fear since the concept of A.I have ever existed, people have made works about it through many mediums. We already have a good understanding of it. All A.I supporters want art to be money free, and for a long centuries, art has typically been connected to monetization. Tech advancement optimist wants A.I to replace every human enjoyment because some of us humans are built to be challenged to keep us alive while doing our interests. That's why it's called soulful and humane. Furthermore, I think traditional art will never die. But who knows? I'm not a genius who could fix everybody's problem and I will never expect to be one 😂

    • @sword9497
      @sword9497 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tocideNo offense but there are tons of samples that aren’t as timeless. Chaka Khans career is proof of this. Her music isn’t bad and honestly is quite good, but her catalog has not aged particularly well. The very fact that most people recognize it as the song that sampled it proof in and of itself that. It’s a bit of a logical fallacy to assume because something came first or is the original that is better or more timeless, is the original ford model T better or more timeless than a modern car? Obviously not. There is a Pusha T song that was produced by Kanye that samples are random instagram live rant, does that make the incoherent rant timeless or better? No

    One of the big challenges of copying in art vs sports is that art relies on nostalgia and familiarity of the earlier work. A soccer player/footballer who kicks the ball into the goal using a technique developed by another player is using a better, more effective way to do the job. An artist or AI program that copies Monet's painting style wouldn't have the same effect if everyone wasn't already familiar with his work. Monet's painting style was considered strange when he first did it over 140 years ago, but now everyone knows and accepts his style, even if you haven't studied art or know Monet's name. Movie references would be meaningless if it hadn't be done before. The soccer player also had to learn and execute the technique, whereas AI and sampling doesn't require the same development of skills, and may not work without the earlier reference.

    What you said about African Americans wanting Tyla to throw away her African heritage and her reflection of self to fit in with us is WRONG. If I were to go to Johannesburg, I would want a native to teach me the lingo and what I should and not say there. That is called respect for other people's cultures. Here in America, black people do not refer to themselves as colored. There are plenty of diasporas in the U.S. who look just like Tyla. Those people identify themselves as black. If you want to come to somebody's country and want to entertain them or appeal to them, you have to understand their way of thinking. This is even biblical as it also would apply to business. There is no black person here in America who would tell someone to get rid of her culture just to suit us.

    • @elroyswarts2337
      @elroyswarts2337 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Black Americans are the biggest hypocrites on the planet. They get triggered by the word "coloured" yet go around calling each other the n - word. If the word coloured is so offensive, why was no one boycotting the movie "for coloured girls?" Why is no one boycotting the NAACP? Let's be clear about one thing: this is not about the word "coloured." Actually they don't really have a problem with the word "coloured." They hate Tyla not because of the fact that she REFERS TO HERSELF as coloured. They hate her because she is beautiful and talented but mostly because she is showing that it is actually possible to be a world class entertainer and pop star without using anything that is American. She is an African artist doing African music. As much as they like to accuse everyone of cosplaying or copying them, she is showing that it is possible to be African and not have to speak or act or dance like them and still be successful and popular, if not more than them. That is what they can't stand. They hate her because of who she is and because of what she brings to the table. It is something that they do not have, so they can't accuse her of copying them or cosplaying them.

    The whole debate about Tyla’s Blackness is wild to me…. SHE IS South AFRICAN. I feel like the Black people who claim that their Blackness is unique because they are Americans is like White people saying they are the best because they are Americans. The issue isn’t the RACIAL classification- it’s a nationalistic one. It’s like when European white people say- they aren’t White like the Americans and vice versa. Race is based on the classification of the nation. Not based on genetics. The second way to define race is by colour- which I think is pretty ironic. Especially since said classification of race is a remnant of colonisation and of the colonisers.
