Thanks mate, I had recently seen an aerial photo of camels in the desert. The shot was straight down and the camels in the pic were actually just their shadows. It looked really cool. When I was coming down to land I noticed our shadows and thought, I have to capture this. Glad I did because I loved it too.
So happy we pushed on for the sunset. It was so nice up there. As for new vid's, I've been trying really hard to get out on a trip but life has just been busy. One of those busy life moments was a holiday to Tassie. I didn't plan to make a video but i captured some nice shots, I'm currently trying to edit that, Its proving very difficult. I think it will just end up being a family vid type of thing. Still great memories for us but probably boring for everyone else. We'll just have to see what i can come up with. I'm currently over in Perth for work and I've told My boss, My wife, I've told everyone, as soon as i get back i'm going on an adventure. I need it 🤣 Cheers!
Oh i'd love a fat bike to do some beach rides and beach camps. Not sure the wife would be happy with another bike squashed on my balcony. All the bikes i've been riding on my bikepacking trips have been old 90's bikes. they don't have the best tyre clearance. Hopefully sometime soon I can get a modern bikepacking bike that can fit some chunkier tyres. It may not be fat bike capable but it would help. My rear tyre on this trip was 48mm. she sunk right in haha.
Probably a little different now. I was last up there in 2016 and since then the trail at the bottom has changed, it’s now longer but not as steep. And the top now has new ladders and the platform up top. I did like the sketchy old ladders but it’s cool to have that platform at the top. Awesome views. Thanks for watching.
That's my ancestral country there, a great grandfather surveyed the district in the 1880's, one of the features visible north of Pidgeonhouse is named after him. Beautiful country. Liked the vid, I did a few tours back in the 70's and 80's enjoyable but the total exhaustion of a long climb / walk leaning on a loaded bike was a bit much. Lovin the last words "It's good to be off that bike".
I grew up in Ulladulla. In fact you you rode past and filmed the house I spent my late teenage and early adult years in, and my parents still live in. Obviously a lot of other old haunts for me too. Great film, thanks for sharing your adventure with us
Haha, say hello to your parents 🙋♂️😜 It’s a beautiful spot down there. My family has been going to Bungalow park at Burrill Lake every Christmas holidays for the last 35 years so I know the area well. Plenty of great days water skiing, nights at the Marlin, it was great to see the area by bike and slow it up a little. Thanks for watching 👍
Wow not many people can say they've witnessed the sunset from pigeon house mountain! Have you looked at doing a trip through the budawangs. Ive done a few on the endrick river firetrail. Srunning!
Just remembered i never replied to this. Sunset at pigeon house was awesome. We camped in the car part and there was so many people going up early for a sunrise, but nobody at all up there for sunset. So happy we got there in time. As for Bikepacking through the Budawangs, The reason i got into bikepacking was to do the Attack of the buns route. The Endrick River Firetrail is part of this. I'm still yet to do it but super keen. Its on the list. Cheers.
Thank you. I was worried the start of the video was a bit all over the place and people would skip before getting to the better parts. Glad you enjoyed it 👍
I've been living o/s for 15 years. Thanks for the amazing reminder and inspirations for where to go when I come back. Sydney is a funny place. Most never venture out of their region let alone the city. Thanks for the amazing reminder and inspirations for where to go when I come back and a great clip to boot. Cheers.
Does this mean you thinking about moving back? 15 years is a long time overseas. A friend of mine who no longer lives in Sydney always says the best thing about Sydney are the roads out of here. I do love to hit the road and see new places but I often overlook some of the amazing landscapes right at out doorstep. not enough weekends to do everything. Hopefully I can keep making you a little homesick 😜 Cheers!
I love riding around the south coast, theres hundreds of kms of awesome firetrails up around behind ulladulla etc. You can just explore forever. The trick is to try and stay away from the princess but unfortunately you do need to cross it now and then if you want to get near the ocean. Mt Kingiman, woodburn, Flat rock state forest, Clyde state forest, it just goes on and on and on. XC MTB best choice of bike. Some of my all time favourite rides are around there. A great ride is from Tianjara falls down to washerwomens bay.
Another excellent AdVANture. Thank you. I remember climbing Pidgeon House with my son, Steven, on my back when he was one. He turns 45 this in 2 days time. He is my best riding mate, we cover a lot of miles together. I think perhaps we need to get down to Milton and do a route similar to yours. I like your retro-'90s bike setup. I also love how cheery you remain, even when you're feeling absolutely stuffed. Carrying that little boat all the way probably didn't help.
Cheers mate, I've been away for a few days, and it looks like this comment was 2 days ago, if so, that might mean it's your son's birthday. If so happy birthday 🎂 Yeah, it was definitely a fun ride around the loop we did. probably a little hot on the day out to pigeon house but that river stop was awesome. The way I like to think out on these adventures is, if something goes wrong, it will just mean the video will be more exciting. I think it can be good motivation to think of the positives of anything that can happen. I've just got back from a ride where we got caught in a storm and I loved it for the footage. So good. Cheers,

That seal was so bizarre, I filmed it for so long trying to capture movement. I’ve seen them rest up on the rocks but not like that, glad it’s common 😂

That's a copy of the Surly Corner Bar, Its a cheap carbon fiber copy of Ali Express. (hasn't broken yet) I'm still experimenting with positions and once I get it right I'll add some bar tape and theoretically it should feel like a drop bar bike with mtb shifters and levers etc. I've actually ridden a mates bike that has them setup better and they feel pretty good. I need to get mine higher but my steerer tube is too short. I'm currently looking at getting an angled stem to bring up the height of the bars. I've been filming a bit of this process so once its done I'll share a video of it and my thoughts.
@@advanturest hi Mate, I am curious about the bar and stem setup too. I have an old ‘94 GT Timberline steel frame MTB, all original parts/setup. I have been thinking of the best bar setup, and the Surly corner bar is one of the bars that I had looked at. How’s it go with the new stem? How’s the swap from old original bars to new? Do you have a quill stem adapter? What size wheels are on the Raleigh? Also, that was a crazy pile of bikes that fella had there! Mental stuff! Nice fun easy ride you boys had. Looked like such a nice ride. Good company, great riding, awesome stuff 😊👍
@@bigbadstretch13yrago Hey mate, A few questions to answer here and it makes me think I should finish another video I started. Last year I filmed a whole heap about this bike, why I got it, what I'm running on it, etc. I ended up getting Covid the weekend I went away with it to finish off the video and was struggling too much to film anything and never got back to it. In that video I talk about the forks, This bike had suspension forks with a quill style stem. In the photos it looked like the head tube was bigger than my other old bikes so I bought it. sure enough the suspension fork had the quill stem but it had a 1 1/8 diameter steerer tube. I put a different pair of forks on it and can now use any standard stem. No quill adaptor needed. Saying that, on my Mongoose I run a quill adaptor with no problems at all if that's what you need to do. I'm currently running this bike with the new taller stem and it feels much better. I'm actually going on a trip this weekend on it so I'll talk about it in my next video. Only issue I'm having is I haven't put any bar tape on yet so my hands can get a little saw after a while. My fault though, I keep spending money on camera gear so the bar tape keeps getting pushed down the list. As for the wheels, I've got 27.5 on it. Same wheels and forks from this video. This frame is too big for me so I got a similar smaller frame. th-cam.com/video/iH8qubzEsUg/w-d-xo.html
Bugga you & Josh 😁 Here I am rocking the outback NSW and this vid comes through. Man o man mate that looks great 👍 Yup when I finish at Renmark, reckon I'll hit Edan then work my ways back to Newcastle from there. Outstanding, I still can't believe everyone doesn't do this. For interest currently staying at my 5th Royal Hotel in a row, calling it my "Royal Tour"😅(Mendooran) Such quality work. 4.5 bicycle's out of 5 🚲🚲🚲🚲🛴
Haha, "The Royal Tour" Always love your comments! You've just given me an idea that may not end well haha. It's been pretty hot the last few weeks and I'm sure you would have been copping it. I hope seeing the ocean and nice swimming spots in this video has cooled you down 😜 I just had to google search Renmark. Is this the Renmark on the boarder of SA? If it is you have a huge loop ahead of you. So awesome! Enjoy the ride my friend!
Yup on the SA border, trying to relive some past glories lol. (I'm not old I just look that way) the Hay plains are a boredom inducing nightmare, maybe reignite my love of the Barrington Tops.
Great route and vlog as always! Beach riding and camping is the absolute best there is in my opinion! I even go into the waves a little sometimes, and watching them shimmering and rushing under my feet actually feels like flying to me. Anyone who avoids the beach is missing something really special! I ridiculously used to do it on 26x2 but now I use 27.5x3 but my dream bike is a 5" fat bike.
That rear tyre I had on is a 650x47B, I just googled it and it's 1.85" wide 😂 I was actually surprised I could ride on it, I was sure I'd be pushing the bike the whole way. I obviously lost the rear end a few times so it wasn't ideal. I'd love a fat bike, The sand capabilities would be cool but I'd also love to try riding in snow. That would be awesome. Thanks for watching, can't wait to do another coastal trip and actually camp on the sand. Cheers!
Wow, I can't believe you noticed that, I can't tell you how many times I've watched that clip while editing and I didn't notice it. I'm intrigued now. I think I'll get the editing software running and go through it frame by frame. I'll let you know if I come up with any answers.. Cheers!
Cheers Mate, The last 3 February trips seem to have turned out to be my favourites. 2021 Valentine Hut, 2022 Namadgi, 2023 the coastal trip. I'm going to have to start planning a good one for 2024 😂
Great to see you managed to pick up some Bent Spoke cans Tim. For future reference Pebbly Beach (just north of Batemans Bay) has some great camps along the beach. If you like the Hazy cans, Broulee Brewery is definitely worth a visit. Potato Point also offers some good camping with water views. Keep up the great quality productions.
Cheers mate, I’ll definitely look into all of these. Especially the brewery haha. It would be cool to have a car at the end so we could keep riding the one direction and not have to backtrack. I would have loved to keep heading down the coast but decided make a loop rather than down and back up the same way. I just want to quit my job and keep riding 😂 Time for some googling! Cheers!
I think you’re right, it was actually really windy that day and it would have been miserable. I think a close eye on the wind forecast would be critical to get a good afternoon on the sand. Saying that, who plans these trips that late that there is even a forecast 😂 We locked in the date for this trip in November! Cheers!

I don’t but I’ve just recently set up a ride with GPS account so I’ll make it happen. In the meantime here are some Strava links to the 3 days if that helps. Day 3 I accidently stopped my GPS so there is a weird straight line. www.strava.com/activities/8623986012 www.strava.com/activities/8623987132 www.strava.com/activities/8623987074
I don’t 😂 you would be surprised how good warm beer tastes after a big day riding. Saying that I like to drink craft beers when on bikepacking trips because the fruity flavours are better when warm compared to something like, let’s say a VB. A warm VB would be horrible. If you have space where things can get wet, I’ve seen people freeze their drinking water and store it next to beer. It keeps the beer cold on day 1 and then you can drink the water later.
This is where we rode, Day 3 I accidently stopped my GPS so there is a weird straight line. www.strava.com/activities/8623986012 www.strava.com/activities/8623987132 www.strava.com/activities/8623987074
what an adventure timmy havnt check in in a while mate but this one was worth watching thoroughly enjoyed this video. when's the bikepacking catch and cook coming out thou hahha :)
I was very close to putting a rod in for this trip but I thought the day would be pretty busy with filming and the boat idea etc. Actually last weekend I camped at a hut by the Murrumbidgee and there were 2 Fly Fisherman there that said it was good fishing. I was actually thinking about you and wondered if you’d ever be keen for the long drive and trout fishing. I wouldn’t mind giving it a try. I also want to do another Canoe trip. Not enough weekends in the year for all my ideas 😂 When are you giving up DJing 😂
Hi Mate, I've been meaning to add all my rides to ridewithgps.com but I've been a bit slack. I'll add these in the morning and send the link. In the meantime, below are 3 Strava links to the 3 days. That looks great!! Love your color grading this time, looks more natural and less grainy. Did you use your vintage lens again, some shots have charming bokeh effects. It would be wonderful if you use those polaroids as a slide show at the end. BTW, do you drink beer warm?🤮🤮🤮🤮
Cheers mate, I'm still learning with the colour grading but I'm enjoying playing. Its funny you mentioned less grainy. I actually put a light film grain over the whole thing as an experiment as it can be so sharp sometimes and I've done that to try soften the image. I think I like it and it's the first time I've tried it. I used the vintage glass in the shots around the fire. I'd love to shoot a whole video with some old manual focus glass but I also take photos and I kind of need the quick autofocus when capturing action shots. As for the polaroid's, I thought it could be cool to add his photos but Josh lives an hour from me and I didn't feel like driving all the way there to pick them up. I did try and find a polaroid template to try and photoshop some of my photos to look like polaroid's but when an edit gets this long my computer starts to struggle and I get over the small details. I just had to upload it and move on. I think I'll still try and find something like that for future videos though. And lastly, I've never been a warm beer drinker but you would be surprised how good the strong fruity craft beer tastes warm after riding all day. At home I have a beer fridge and they are icy cold 😂😂
Do by chance have a gpx for this route? I’m heading back down under for a visit (living in Colorado these days) and trying to work out a possible coastal bikepacking route from Sydney to Melbourne…🤷♀️
I do but I’m not at home at the moment. I actually started to add this to ridewithgps but got sidetracked and never went back. I’ll try finish it when I’m home, in the meantime here is the Strava links. Just note, some beach walking involved, could be a slow trip on these type of trails. Good fun but slow going. Enjoy all your content. Did you know it is illegal to ride NSW footpaths? Not knocking you though. I also ride footpaths wherever I deem necessary. I think the law should be changed and hope you'll throw in your two cents worth
Hey mate, I saw this comment a few weeks back while camping with limited reception, Just saw it again and remembered. I often don't feel safe on the road so footpaths it is. I know its technically illegal but i can't imagine ever getting a ticket for it. I am very courteous of pedestrians though. I generally just cruise along and slow up to go around them. Maybe if you were riding like an idiot and hit someone you may get a fine.
That was great, thanks you blokes. Enjoyable to skirt old hunting grounds vicariously sitting here on me arse.

Hehe, I had the same thing happen to my fat bike.
I submitted it in the closest freshwater creek then hosed it thoroughly and it is OK.
Bugga you & Josh 😁
Here I am rocking the outback NSW and this vid comes through. Man o man mate that looks great 👍
Yup when I finish at Renmark, reckon I'll hit Edan then work my ways back to Newcastle from there.
Outstanding, I still can't believe everyone doesn't do this.
For interest currently staying at my 5th Royal Hotel in a row, calling it my "Royal Tour"😅(Mendooran)
Such quality work.
4.5 bicycle's out of 5
🚲🚲🚲🚲🛴
Haha, "The Royal Tour" Always love your comments! You've just given me an idea that may not end well haha.
It's been pretty hot the last few weeks and I'm sure you would have been copping it. I hope seeing the ocean and nice swimming spots in this video has cooled you down 😜
I just had to google search Renmark.
Cheers!
Looks great! Always good inspiration for trips on this channel
Cheers mate! Not a lot of planning went into this loop and it turned out super fun. I definitely encourage getting out and trying something similar. 👍
What a beautiful area! When you jump off the bridge, something falls out of your friend's pocket and hits the water right before he does.
Wow, I can't believe you noticed that, I can't tell you how many times I've watched that clip while editing and I didn't notice it. I'm intrigued now. I think I'll get the editing software running and go through it frame by frame. I'll let you know if I come up with any answers..
Cheers!
Oh mate, another really awesome trip and video, your videos just keep getting better and better.
Im inspired to buy another bike 👍😳.
Cheers shad
Thanks Shad! I was pretty happy how this one turned out. Very glad I decided to incorporate the hike at the end.
Be warned, Biking is hard haha!
@@advanturest 😂😂
Epic vid mate - your best one yet 👍🏾 Keep up the good work 🍻
Cheers Mate, The last 3 February trips seem to have turned out to be my favourites.
I just want to quit my job and keep riding 😂
Time for some googling! Cheers!
Beach campsites can be way windy. That may be why the site was protected by bush. You can always take your dinner to the view...
I think you’re right, it was actually really windy that day and it would have been miserable. I think a close eye on the wind forecast would be critical to get a good afternoon on the sand. Saying that, who plans these trips that late that there is even a forecast 😂
We locked in the date for this trip in November!
Cheers!
Nice one Tim 👍
Thanks Chris, I saw your vlogging skills are on point from your Kosci trip 😁
@@advanturest lol, I've been thinking about a trip that's goes through towns for more food options.
Mate what a great ride. Have you posted this route on Strava. I would love to do it one day.

Awesome trip, thanks for sharing! Do you have a ridewithgps route for this one? I'd be keen to try it out.
I don’t but I’ve just recently set up a ride with GPS account so I’ll make it happen. In the meantime here are some Strava links to the 3 days if that helps.
Day 3 I accidently stopped my GPS so there is a weird straight line.

This looks like fun 👍. Question 🙋 how do you keep the beers cold?
I don’t 😂 you would be surprised how good warm beer tastes after a big day riding. Saying that I like to drink craft beers when on bikepacking trips because the fruity flavours are better when warm compared to something like, let’s say a VB. A warm VB would be horrible.
If you have space where things can get wet, I’ve seen people freeze their drinking water and store it next to beer. It keeps the beer cold on day 1 and then you can drink the water later.
@@advanturest good tip thanks mate.
Looks fantastic! Do you have a RideWithGPS or Strava route link?

what an adventure timmy havnt check in in a while mate but this one was worth watching thoroughly enjoyed this video.
when's the bikepacking catch and cook coming out thou hahha :)
Not enough weekends in the year for all my ideas 😂
When are you giving up DJing 😂
Great trip. I was thinking of doing something in this area. Do you have a gpx file of the route?
Hi Mate, I've been meaning to add all my rides to ridewithgps.com but I've been a bit slack. I'll add these in the morning and send the link. In the meantime, below are 3 Strava links to the 3 days. Cheers

You guys don’t travel light 😅
Man… I missed that NSW view, love the video! ❤
Got to take all the toys 😂
Cheers

@@advanturest Agree totally
