    1) The jury avoided the testimony of the woman, this is scandalous. They missed also the opportunity to synchronize her testimony with the fact that she had indentations around her nose. This makes the verdict biased and one sided. In 2 of 3 scenarios the woman could have glasses which wouldnt destroy her testimony. Sunglasses or reading glasses do not hinder her to see the murderer. However the jury's duty was to synchronize her eyesight with her alibi. But they forgot about it while fraudulent No8 switched the topic, when it was first mentioned. 2) There is no realistic way that someone else bought the same type of knife (and not a bat or a gun) while the boy lost his knife only hours before the murder happened. It is like mentioned in the movie a one in a million chance, which cant lead to a non guilty verdict, at least not to a reasonable one. No8 when he bought his fraudulent piece of evidence which isnt allowed by law btw, he for sure knew what he was looking for. A mysterious murderer couldn't know it and for sure wouldnt be able to make the boy to lose his knife, only hours before the dad got killed. The boy's alibi with the knife is highly "engineered". 3) If in another scenario, the boy lost his knife somewhere on the street, there is no link between the murderer and the boy's dad. No one starts killing just because he finds a knife somewhere, especially not where the boy lives. The killer wouldnt even know where he lives. 4) In some weak explanations, if the boy lost his knife at one special spot infront of his own home door, it is still very unlikely, cause he could've lost it in 1000 other spots. But of course he loses his knife right where lives, well at least a tiny link between a murderer and his dad exists in this case. But still, nobody just starts killing because he finds a knife. Second he must've heard the knife drop, he was still standing in the staircase. And it is very unlikely that he had a hole in his pocket like he stated, and even if, a huge knife needs time to drop through a little hole. He would've heard the drop or felt the knife crawling out of his pocket. However this interpretation or alibi was never stated in the movie, therefore their verdict is not reasonable, cause it is not based on this theory. 5) The boy has no alibi regarding the cinema, while juror no4 remembered 99% of things he did days ago! This is not a win for No8 just like it was portrayed in the movie. the movie in itself is biased and tries to biase the audience also! 6) The boy stabbing from upside down was "explained" by Juror No5. However what he missed to explain was, that the boy was not in a knife fight scenario and he was in rage. Without being attacked, the boy had time enought to switch the knife like he wanted and he put all of his hate and weight behind the stab, which resulted in a knife-butchering and not a knife-fight. In the movie "Rebel without a cause" we can see a knife fight, where someone switches the knife within one hand in no time, from the regular stance to the way the boy killed his father. Which means it is a thing and it for sure doesnt take much time to do so. However for the boy time wasnt relevant, cause he wasnt being attacked by another knife fighter. Again the jury shows that their "expertise" is not so good but again very one sided. 7) No one cant just nitpick away all these points one by one (which No8 wasnt even good at, cause he just said "it is possible" which isnt a relevant term in a trial) then we have to say that the boy can't be aquitted based on the things we saw in the movie. All this evidence even with the irrelevant "it is possible"-tag has to be seen accumulated. No one has so much bad\good luck from A to Z, it is extremly unlikely. Completly avoiding core pieces of the process like the testimony and speculating wildly into another direction with the indentations, the direction of No8 isnt a basis for any fair verdict. The killed father has rights too btw! This fact was stated also by Supreme Court Justice Sotomayer in an interview. All in all: This feel-good movie isnt a feel-good movie, it is just a manual to protect murderers and evil people.

This movie was made during the late sixties when the civi rights movement was going on and the sexual revolution so they were drawing parallels between that time and the Weimar Republic in Germany. Based on a book of short stories by Christopher Irsherwood, who was there.

The mental struggles that men go through are portrayed so well here through Winters, Nixon, Leibgott & really comes out when you see Buck totally out of it. Love these men. A couple of side notes that I’ve found to be indicative of Doc Roe’s character here. He sees Winters’ interaction with Col. Sink & the realization of losing Easy, then offers him a cup of coffee. After Moose is accidentally shot, he just lays into Winters, Welsh & Nixon for their failure to keep track of the morphine administered. If I’m not mistaken, he was only a corporal here…what a guy, probably the only one who could get away with that. [edit: would like to see more of the veterans intro/your comments…& outstanding commentary at the outro!]

The bureaucracy created for drafting men into the military was known as the Selective Service System. I'm from the Vietnam era. Back then I got a student deferment to go to college. Two days after graduation, I was at an induction center taking physical exams to see if I was healthy enough to ship off to Southeast Asia and face the "enemy." Luckily, I was able to use the system against itself to keep from getting drafted. Some of my friends did serve. They were not the same upon returning. One did not return. Different time, different circumstances from the heroes of WW II.

The quality of troops in this episode are conscripts from the occupied countries. Though Polish 'SS' they were not the quality and the fanaticism of German SS. This is why they weren't as difficult as a regular SS unit, nor as well equipped.

    • @Amrod97

Even the purely Germanic SS divisions were not well equipped. Technical innovations always got them last. Contrary to myth, Hitler instructed Speer to better equip the Wehrmacht divisions than the SS because he was aware of their poor training. Except for a few armored divisions, the Waffen-SS was a very weak army.

Typically the airborne would go in roughly around Midnight to 1 AM to seize control of important, bridges and intersections behind enemy lines to stop German reinforcements from rushing to the beach to oppose amphibious assault. Also, the airborne would seek to destroy enemy artillery that could be used to fire on the amphibious assault, which would take place just after sunrise. And doing these things, paratroopers would be surrounded by the enemy until amphibious troops advanced forward, seized ground

Don't feel too bad about being "insensitive". The Nazi Party was voted into office by the German people; it wasn't a hostile takeover, and that's despite the fact that Hitler had already made his plans for his rule crystal clear, including the extermination of the Jewish "race". It's true there were 2 fighting groups, the Wehrmacht or regular army and the SS, with the SS responsible for running the camps, killing hundreds of thousands by machine gun fire and grenades etc., but also for atrocities when they were fighting units in a combined action. Even the Wehrmacht was not blameless at all times, and if they didn't participate in the atrocities, as they indeed sometimes did, they certainly knew about them.

Registration for the draft began in 1940 for all men between age 21 and 35, with many volunteering at all ages; however after Pearl Harbor those ages were expanded from 18 to 65. By 1942, conscription was mandatory and ended in 1946. There was a complex system of classifications, which meant men were exempted due to a wide variety of reasons- medical conditions, psychological reasons, educational needs, essential workers (especially agricultural, medical or scientific,) etc so there would still be men available for work and war-related projects on the home front.

Sometimes it's a little odd what the show runners choose to show us. For instance, from what we get to see of Winters trip to Paris, you could come away thinking he didn't have a good time there, when in fact, he did. In letters to his pen-pal, DeEtta Almon, he told her he had a good time and did a lot of the typical tourist stuff you would imagine most people doing. But we don't see any of that.

Mark Lawrence, the actor who played Dukeman, met his wife because of Band of Brothers, though I don’t know all the details. He has referred to Bill Dukeman as “history’s greatest wingman,” and there is footage on TH-cam of him visiting the site where Dukeman got hit. Lawrence also participated in a reenactment jump over Normandy for the D-day anniversary this year, and broke his foot on the landing.

I don't believe it is truly known why the Germans were firing their machine guns that night on the crossroads, but I have heard of two possibilities. Either they were try to sight the guns using tracer rounds or they were training the MG crew. Considering the German SS company seemed to be made up of young men and Non-Germans it is possible this unit was recently formed and the men had very little experience; which could also explain how Easy was able to completely demolish them with far fewer casualties. ---- The incident where Moose Heyliger was shot was a situation where a lot went wrong. First before Winters and Heyliger went out to inspect the checkpoints Winters order Lt Welsh to inform the sentries that Winters and Heyliger would be coming thru later that evening, however word never reached the sentries at this checkpoint. Second when the soldier ordered them to halt Moose froze and for some reason he couldn't remember the password. The passwords changed from operation to operation so the codewords were no longer Flash>Thunder. In the moment all Moose could think to do was say "It's Moose", unfortunately whether it was nerves or that he could not hear him the sentry fired. Third when Winters and Welsh were applying first aid before the medic arrived they couldn't remember how many shots of moraine they gave Moose so Doc Roe had no idea how much he could give Moose without inadvertently killing via an overdose. It is my understanding that 3 shots could be enough to cause an overdose.

Yes people do end up in bed after just meeting . I'm not exactly Casanova, but I've had the occasional 'ships passing in the night' one night stand where you just really click with someone, but circumstance means a more serious relationship simply isn't practical. I have to say they were magical experiences as far as I was concerned and I hope the girls in question remembered them similarly. Can't believe how judgemental you two were! Americans can be very old fashioned and prudish. lol These things happen it's human.🙂 Personally this is one of my favourite films and absolutely hilarious IMO. Maybe you just don't get British humour. As for cheating people do it for a huge range of reasons. Often when they're in a relationship where they're not happy, rather than being a bad or immoral person.

Platoons were not that large in 1944. In 1944 airborne infantry platoons were assigned 1 officer and 35 men. A company was assigned 5 officers and 125 men. This was expanded in 1945 to 2 officers and 47 men for a platoon and 8 officers and 168 men for a company.

"Different category of human being than these guys" A lot of people look at what GIs did during WWII and say "greatest generation" or "we are just wimps.." and I don't think so (not that they weren't great). I grew up as a boy in the 1960's and every adult I knew (father, uncles, aunts, neighbors, etc.) were all in the War, or very much affected by it, and you know what? All they ever wanted was to return safe and pick up their lives as civilians. They'd all been through a lot, but they were not so very different than other generations. I think any group so tested would find their way. Moreover, one thing which is very true is that they sacrificed so that future generations might not have to. I think we all have it in ourselves.

During the assault on the dike, the red smoke is some artistic liberty taken by the show. In reality the men all started running at the same time, but Winters was an exceptional athlete who simply outran the rest of his company, and according to some others who heard him talk about the combat later that day, he felt hyper-focused, and it seemed to him that everyone else was moving in slow motion. The shout "Wahai Mohammed!" by the British Red Devils originates from a campaign in Tunisia, where some of these men saw a local man shouting at his donkey to get him to move. The Brits took a fun liking to the cry, turning it into a rallying cry of their own, used both in battle and in bar fights - they were quite fond of getting into kerfuffles with the US Airborne guys. It was said that if any Red Devil heard the cry while carousing around town, he'd drop everything and anything he was doing to go find where it came from and jump into the fray. Moose Heyliger claimed that, for the rest of his life, he could not remember what the challenge response should have been when the sentry shouted out to him before shooting him. I guess when you're a sentry and might be nervous a bit, hearing "IT'S MOOSE!" might easily be mistaken for some German words. When Guarnere comes back limping with the letter from Moose, and Winters tells him "No more joyriding," it refers to an incident not shown in the episodes, happening some time between Ep4 and Ep5. Guarnere was leading some men along the front lines along the Rhine, they were spread over almost a mile, so to make his task easier of going up and down, he stole a motorcycle from a nearby farm, but a German sniper took a shot at him and hit him the right leg, fracturing the tibia. Guarnere was sent back to England, but not wanting to be reassigned to another unit (which could happen if you were away too long) he put some black boot polish over his cast and tried walking out of the hospital, but was caught and forced to stay. He told the docs he'd just go AWOL at the first chance he got. He was eventually allowed to leave, but was busted back to Private for his behavior. However the paperwork never made it back to Easy Company so he rejoined it with his rank of Sergeant. Winters' trip to Paris and his episode in the subway is one of the best depicitions of PTSD I've ever seen on tv. Back then, it was called "battle fatigue", nobody realizing how much more severe it could be than just being "tired of fighting." Lt Rice who drives the jeep with the ammo at the end made several ammo runs to supply Easy Company as much as he could, until he was ordered to stop by his superiors, as the Germans had already encircled the place. He was awarded a Bronze Star for this. Jimmy Fallon, not being a good stick shift driver, and being nervous acting for Tom Hanks, who was directing this episode, couldn't get the jeep into gear and needed to have 2 guys push the vehicle to get it moving. Malarkey's $3600 is worth about 63k today, which is why he was so bummed not getting to go spend it.

Dropbox’s built in player only allows 2 hours of playback, but if you download the video the whole thing is there.

We are more fortunate than most realize. Deaths as a % of population: Iraq - 0.002%, Afghanistan - 0.001%, Vietnam - 0.032%, Korea - 0.024%, WWII - 0.307%, WWI - 0.110%, Civil War - 2.083%, American Revolution - 1.00%. We haven't really seen war on a large scale since 1975. For reference, Civil War level casualties today would be over 7 million. Iraq + Afghanistan was a little over 6 thousand.

Nixon has several scenes where he is waking up. The way I've heard it is that he was generally up walking the line for intelligence reports until 3 or 4 in the morning. So him sleeping late was mostly because of his role.

My understanding is noone waited for the smoke grenade to go off. It's just that Winters was so fast he simply outran his soldiers. They put the smoke grenade thing in because they thought noone would believe the actual truth.

You guys need to watch Starship Troopers when it comes to "Citizenship." You're on point. I'm the class of 2001 and 9/11 was our introduction to the real world. Many of my friends enlisted in the 101st Airborne and Army Rangers and Marines and everything else in response. Think before you act. Godspeed

There is a clip on yt somewhere were Damian Lewis was on TTS w Fallon and they joked around about how Fallon couldn’t drive the stick shift jeep so people had to push the jeep in and out of frame. I think the engine noise had to be added in post

This is the episode when Tom Hanks literally takes the reigns in the series...becoming more introspective with Winters. The back and forth between the typewriter and gunfire is brilliant to me. Long before PTSD was even taken seriously. General Patton famously addressed it with the back of his hand on a soldiers face. Oh and if any of you come across any bacon sandwiches, let me know. 1."Krauts" is an ethnic slur for Germans, not only Nazis, from the word sauerkraut. 2. The helmets are steel, so a dent doesn't mean it won't work. 3. The fact that the little boy never had chocolate is particularly poignant because the Dutch have excellent chocolate, but during the war shipments of cacao from the Colonies ended (sugar too) so for 5 years under occupation, no Dutch chocolate. 4. The US Airborne Divisions (101 and 82) seized their objectives by taking Eindhoven and Nijmegen, opening up the highway for the British armor. The problem was at the far end of the advance at Arnhem, where the British Airborne was unable to take the city and the bridge across the Rhine. They were destroyed as a unit, taking some 8000 casualties.

yea the Brits ended up facing the remnants of the 9 & 10 ss Pz Divs, two battle hardened units. they were sent there to rest & refit. unfortunate timing at the very least.

This is a horrifying movie once you sit with it for a bit. Shows how fast a country can change for the worse.

32:47 It's stll not conclusively established that Vault-Tec dropped the bombs (Except Shady Sands), just that they were willing to. That's one of the things that I most mavel at with this show: meaningful and intentional ambiguity. How many episodes did we think Max had planted the blades in Dane's boots? Nearly the whole season. It gave Maximus a sense of serious moral ambiguity in spite of his genuineness. That's powerful writing.
