While there have been hints that Vault Tec had a hand in the Great War, there hasn't been any confirmation aside from hints and texts and theories, until this show. That said, it shows they may have had a hand in planning it, or intending to drop the bomb, but I doubt Barb would have let Coop take their daughter anywhere other than near a vault if she knew when the bombs would be dropped, and there were some vaults that weren't finished being built. I'm currently guessing they intended to start the war but got caught off guard themselves a bit

I believe they did intent to drop the bombs but someone beat them to it, maybe whoever it was found out what Vault Tec planned and decided to spoil it for them.

Here’s the thing: we know Coopers wife said they’d drop the bomb. In Fallout 3 the nuke in the middle of Megaton has a Vault Tech logo on it. That makes sense.
Here is what gets me: if she knew when the bombs would drop, why would she allow her daughter to be anywhere but in the vault with her?
And House was in that secret cabal meeting, but in the New Vegas game we know that he also knew the bombs were coming but not when.
I am thinking we will get a curveball thrown at us that reveals someone else actually triggers the nukes

Hey guys! Cooper's ex-wife & possibly daughter r not in Vault 31. Bud's Buds were all junior management/ management trainees. That was what he was talking to Cooper about when Cooper was dropping off his wife @ work. Hank was Barbara's executive assistant. Cooper's wife was senior management, & quite possibly the right hand woman of the head of Vault-Tec. The reason I say this is because @ that meeting, Barbara glanced up @ a person in the shadows of the 2nd floor observation room before saying something to get the meeting back on track. The question is "Why did Hank flee to New Vegas which is supposedly where Mr. House is in charge?" 🤔 O, about how often Vaults 32, & 33 communicated or saw each other, Lucy mentioned it during her marriage application. I think it was something like "I'm willing to take part in the Tri-Annual trade w/Vault 32." So, my guess is about a year after their last trade is when everybody went nuts. Norm had said that the last bio reading on the Pip-Boy was 2yrs ago from the current time line of the show. I am curious as to what Norm is gonna do. Will he go into Cryosleep or will he threaten the Cryopods in order to escape 31?🤔 Anyway, I really liked your reactions & commentary on his show.😊👍

the idea with splitting 32 and 33 is to mask that 31 is not like the other two vaults. it's easier to accept a "trade" coming in from 31 if you also have communication between 32 and 33.
at least that's what I think.

Lore. Lore always changes. This series added to and potentially changed our understanding of certain aspects of the Fallout world. But that always happens. There were significant changes and inconsistencies between Fallout 1 and 2 (e.g., Vault 13, Shady Sands, and the Mariposa Base each moving over a hundred miles west). Every Fallout adaption whether video game or television series has tweaked the lore. And that’s OK. This is an imaginary world that has grown through the hard work of developers and designers at Interplay, Obsidian, Bethesda, and now Jonathan Nolan’s team. I think the resistance of a vocal few against allowing this world to expand is misguided. I loved the original janky and quirky Fallout when I played it in 1997 but every canonical iteration since has expanded the world in fascinating and daring ways. It would be a bleaker world if Fallout 1 had been held so sacrosanct so as not to let others make the Fallout world what it is today. (Great reaction guys).

      @Blynat หลายเดือนก่อน +1

They also hint the China might have started it because they were losing the war and China was being invaded by the US after they were pushed back out of Alaska. But they have never actually said in the games who did it but they definitely hint that it was either vault tech or the leader in China wanting to burn everything down because he lost.

There are also hints that they haven't started it. Mr House for example expected the bombs to drop later, that's why he hadn't the chip. And in the TV show Barbs daughter was not in a vault, but on a birthday party when the bombs dropped. Maybe they intended to trigger the nuclear war, but got caught by surprise when it actually started.

9:36, This is why I still think that Barb is on a higher level than Bud. She gets a message on her Pip-boy, looks up at a shadowy figure who is "overseeing" the secret meeting and takes control of the meeting herself. I believe the shadowy figure was Vault-Tec's president/CEO and Barb is/was his personal executive assistant.
As far as Vault-Tec dropping the bombs themselves, that was probably their intention, however somebody else dropped them before Vault-Tec was ready to implement their plan. Maybe it was the Chinese who dropped the bombs then America retaliated, OR, maybe it was the aliens, who are canonically in the Fallout universe since Fallout 2, by using their death laser causing all of the fusion generators and fusion powered vehicles to blow up.
The cold fusion was what Moldaver was working on back before the bombs dropped then Vault-Tec swept in and bought up all of the companies that she had worked with so they could control that technology.

Montana has ALOT of nuclear missile silos so a fair chunk of the state around the silos will get glassed. I live 16 miles away from a B52 base and that's within the blast radius of a nuke of a 50 MT nuke. If there's a nuclear war the first thing I'll see is a blinding flash of light. If I'm not blinded from the flash I'll get to see the wall of my house coming at me at 600 mph. In other words I hope you all enjoy the appoc. because I be radioactive ash. Cheers!

    • @leeneufeld4140

But silos weren't targets in the Great War. The targets were population centres, that got carpet bombed with nukes. The object was to wipe out the human race, so stopping silo launches wouldn't have made sense. The more nukes that got launched, the happier Vault-Tec and their partners would be. Yet another example of the "smartest guys in the room" being dumber than doorknobs. Greed really does make people stupid.

vault-tech dropping the bombs has been a hypothesis for a long time. there are supporting clues to this in the games if you read everything, but no direct statement.
but why would they fallow her dad? the ghoul wants his family (likely just his doughtier) Lucy knows hr dad came from 31, so that would be a logical place to start looking. and we know it is the correct answer.

Okay, made it to the end, sorry for spam comments lol. I really don't think it is a big change to say Vault Tec dropped the first bomb (or caused it to be dropped false-flag wise). Vault Tec is established as clearly evil and there are all kinds of signs pointing to them trying to wipe out human survivors. They're absolutely ruthless so IMO this is consistent with plausible lore that already existed.
IMO I don't think Vault 31 is the one the Howards were supposed to go into. It seems to me that Bud and Mrs. Howard are approximately equal and Vault 31 seems to only control 32/33. I am picturing a true control vault with the upper level of Vault Tec. We haven't seen the true upper echelon and it seems a lot of people couldn't stand Bud, I doubt all the execs trusted themselves to Bud. Also, she isn't one of Bud's Buds I don't think, those cryopods are for more junior people. Maybe the control Vault in in New Vegas or maybe that is just a place he knows he can go to get access and maybe talk with Mr House. Vault Tec is based in California so I feel like that is where the central control vault we're looking for will be located in the end.
Also, as you noted Lucy and Max got what they wanted and they no longer want it. How is what the Ghoul wants going to end up not being what he wants? I am picturing a full grown daughter who has been raised to dislike or even hate him. I could even see the ultimate storyline being Howard having to kill his daughter to save Lucy or even avoid a Shady Sands or global virus 2.0 occurrence. Find his daughter, find she's everything he hates, forced to kill her.
As for Vault 32, agree they didn't find out why but I am thinking they fought for control and killed the Vault 31 originating residents, tortured the overseer (they were missing a hand and tied up) and then either all died or 31 did something, as you noted. I think 32/33 are insurance for just such an occurrence.

The original main quest of Fallout 76 reveals that the overseer of Vault 76 was tasked with securing the automated nuclear silos in Appalachia. The player(s) following in her footsteps end up gaining access to them, which is why the players can occasionally nuke various parts of the of the map - one to force the big boss at the end of the main quest out of hiding for the final confrontation, other times to lure out other end-game bosses, sometimes just because it's a good way to farm xp and end-game harvestables for crafting.
In any case, if it's not an Appalachian nuke that Hank used, I could see some early Vault-Tec operatives getting control of other silos around the country in a similar fashion after the War.

"We Know The Truth" and "Death to Management" written in blood on the walls. It would be cool if they show this in season 2 and even with a Rose ghoul that is not yet feral going with Moldaver to 32 to convince them of the truth.
The 3 vaults do the exchanges every 3 years, and Norm found the last vaultie there died 2 years past. Moldaver just had to wait for the next exchange to infiltrate 33 and kidnap Hank.

"Cold fusion....I don't know". Dude on the left needs to watch the show again, it is a show that requires to be viewed more than once to pick everything up. They explained cold fusion how Moldaver was the scientist who invented it and Vault-Tec came along and bought out her company and shelved the tech since it would stop them from being able to sell vaults and lead to peace in the war. Her whole motivation was to recover the chip and get a vault-tec executive to give her the code, it was her reason for everything she did.
I would highly recommend replaying or playing Fallout New Vegas as well as its DLC, it is amazing.
