Wish I Was in Bowling Green
Here’s my take on Bowling Green ft. the Beaver Valley winds and this beautiful 100-year-old banjo 🪕🦫 I have uploaded this as a cover with Nylgut string before, but i thought to record it with steel strings!🤎 I will be recording this one and releasing it as a single in the next few months. ☺️
My ‘lil Canadian self has never been to Bowling Green, KY, but this is still one of my all-time favourite songs. The melody of the traditional tune is thought to have originated from older folk songs, possibly related to English/Irish ballads or tunes brought over by settlers in the Appalachian region. This beautiful song reminds me of The Blue Mountains here at home where I’m filming. Cozy and getting colder. 🌿🏔️
The first popular release of the song was by Cousin Emmy in 1947. The song was also performed by The Kossoy Sisters.

What Has Been Lost ~ Original Banjo Song
มุมมอง 2.5K14 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Hey folks! 🌸 Here’s a song I wrote recently. Still deciding between the names What Has Been Lost & Mountain Springs. 🤎 Lyrics: I climb to the mountain spring Lord I heard him calling, that old familiar ring The stream danced through my finger and it struck on my strings One hundred lives I’ve suffered and one hundred lives I’ll sing I mourn my mother yet she still mourns her own I love my dear ...
North Country Farewell

Sometimes simple is better. 🪕🏔️ Another rainy & windy day staying at my brother’s in the city for a bit. I remembered this simple song ‘North Country Farewell’ that I wrote on guitar quite a while ago when I was travelling away from home. I have a bug to go so many places in my lifetime, but the great beauty of this northern landscape that is my home, and everything that the land here has taugh...

Hey folks! 🪕🔮 Here is a clawhammer banjo cover of [I Got Spurs That] Jingle Jangle Jingle by Kay Kyser 🤎 It's getting a bit chilly out here in Canada, so my outdoor videos may cease for a few months (unless we have some fluke warm days!) O Death ~ Clawhammer Banjo
มุมมอง 15K28 วันที่ผ่านมา
‘Tis the season of spook & death. 🦴🔮 As we reflect on the traditions of the season-honoring and celebrating the cycles of life-here’s my gourd banjo rendition of “O Death,” a song deeply rooted in American folk music. Originally popularized by Ralph Stanley, this haunting tune has its origins in early 20th-century folk traditions. This rendition was inspired by that of @hustonwestbanjo on TH-ca...
Ain’t No Grave

Hey folks! Sorry, I was not feeling the best last week, so I missed my regular upload, but we’re back with one of my favourites! I have been obsessed with this Crooked Still version of this tune for a couplea years now.🤎 "Ain’t No Grave” is a traditional American gospel song that gained prominence in the 20th century. The song is attributed to Claude Ely, a Pentecostal preacher, who wrote it in...
Country Blues
มุมมอง 6Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Hello lovelies!🧌🏔️ Another week another tune. 🤎 Here is "Country Blues"- one of my favourites. I will likely record this one again this winter when I have a microphone setup. "Country Blues" is a traditional folk song that has been interpreted by various artists, notably Doc Boggs and Doc Watson. Thought to have roots in the early 20th century, the song reflects themes common in folk and blues ...
Gospel Plow ~ Clawhammer Banjo

Quick pit stop in the New Brunswick Appalachians on our way home to play a lil music by the water 🪕🌲 Seeing a lot of the country as we make our way through the mountains in our ‘lil homegrown wheelhouse.🦝🏔️ This is a tune "Gospel Plow," which likely originated in the late 19th to early 20th century, influenced by the oral traditions of those arriving in America. As it evolved, "Gospel Plow" bec...
Young Girl's Lament ~ Talise
มุมมอง 1.1K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hi Everyone! This week's video is a bit different thank my typical folk upload. It is definitely not the style of music that I play today, but I came across this song that I recorded with a dear friend at seventeen years old and didn't do anything with. I thought to share it today just because. It is a cover of the song "Yong Girl's Lament," which is a poignant song that showcases themes of you...

Angeline the Baker ~ banjo cover

Hi folks! 🪕🪲 Here is my clawhammer take on Angeline the Baker 🤎 "Angeline the Baker" is a traditional American folk song whose origins are somewhat obscure, as it evolved within the folk tradition rather than being penned by a single identifiable author. The song was popularized in the early 20th century by its inclusion in folk music collections. #americanamusic #americana #appalachianmusic #f...

Stunning- everything is awesome- setting, picking, sound, voice, and you! Are you going to do any playing in the USA any time soon?
I am glad you have the best 👌 👍 playing banjo. For the age of that banjo, it sounds good 👍 👌 😀 😄 😉 😎 👍.
Kentucky?
Thank you. I needed that. We all need that.
Happy Thanksgiving 👸🏻✨💔
This Canadian girl reminds me of when America was still American.
Which would be?
Lovely song.❤ Thanks for sharing your beautiful music! Happy American Thanksgiving.
Incidentally, there are several U.S. towns named Bowling Green. The most famous are Bowling Green, Ohio, and Bowling Green, Kentucky. I don’t know which one the song refers to.
Featuring the wind.
You have a lot of banjos. And big furry hats.

Happy thanksgiving youall.
Exactly what I need on this dark thursday evening! Thanks Talise 🙏
Lovely music as always ❤
👍
Dude, that vibrato is solid and smooth as hell.
What a great song!
why do you call a oud a banjo (the title says 'banjo')? :) okay, i'm no musician, but this thing resembles a oud in many ways; be it the sound, the shape, or the fretlessness. obviously you're not playing it like a oud, that's for sure, but the instrument seems more 'oud-y' to me than anything else i'm aware of. :)
I love that banjo OMG What a treasure you two are for each other and those blessed enough to hear it.
You’re just about my Ida red and green know what I mean
My goodness, what a voice!
Awesomeness, the quality of your art and visuals are crazy. Great work
