Truman Boots - Cognac Shrunken Bison
มุมมอง 49821 วันที่ผ่านมา
Brown boots! The most popular colour for heritage boots, but what is brown? In the mid to lighter ranges of brown, Truman offer plenty of choice and the closest match for shade are Coach Rambler and Cognac Shrunken Bison. The similarities end there however with reversed Coach winning the stakes for sheer drama whilst the Shrunken Bison gives an "out there" full grain glossy appearance that is n...
New direction for Truman
มุมมอง 969หลายเดือนก่อน
Ten years in and Vince wants to move Truman in a new direction which may include ditching the brand. He's aiming big but I think we can say goodbye to extended and wider sizes, great leathers and traditional construction ... but what do I know.

Is Trickers 5 Fit Average or Wide? Stow Burnished Espresso
มุมมอง 1.4K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
My experience with the Trickers salesman describing my Truman JWF as UGLY (see previous video) related to sizing in length. It made me think about the overall sizing of the Trickers Stow which is supposedly designed for the average width foot. Her, I compare with my EE width Truman and the results are not what I expected.
Java Waxed Flesh - Wrong Size?

I uploaded a post on social media yesterday and it drew a reaction. This is what I said: "Just bought a pair of Tricker's Stow from the London store. I was wearing my Java Waxed Flesh in 13EE. With the boots still on my feet, the sales guy said the Trumans were too big. I asked how he knew. He said they looked ugly - where I'm pointing in the photo. I nearly walked out. Truman Java Waxed Flesh - Break In
มุมมอง 2.5K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Java Waxed Flesh on the 79 last is Truman's best selling boot. It explains why it keeps coming around as they settle into a business model of offering a range of leathers, mostly limited MTO or BTO, every week or so. It has a reputation of being a tough leather and one of the more difficult to build a boot. Does this equate to a painful break in? Stridewise video th-cam.com/video/PMjTRl1EVz...

Targhee Mid Version II or III Which is Best?
I dont know european version, but if you drop a pair of spenco heavy duty insole in there, it would solvr many comfort issue.
Thank you. Very helpful.
My Renegades unstitched where yours did in the thumbnail after less than 50 miles, bought the new Renegade Evo that fixed that issue but they went with a new outsole and its like friggin ice skates on every wet surface, id highly recommend just avoiding both, they are very comfy but I wouldnt get another pair. Plenty of great offerings from Scarpa and La Sportiva.
Helpful. Thank you for sharing your experience.
I’m interested in what he had to say- yes it’s very possible that the tough horween tannage breaks differently, but the possibility that a boot would break in that direction if it’s too long is intriguing to me.

I've worn the boots quite a lot now. I'd say they are at most a half size too long. I think the volume is more of an issue but not a problem.
I recently discovered the 20 last and I love it. I bought a pair of stone and coach ramblers in the 20 last and they look amazing. I love the structured toe box. It gives it an aggressive profile. I have a MTO waxed flesh in the works now. Can’t wait till those get shipped to me. That’s why I watched this video. Wanted to get a better idea of what the waxed Java flesh is going to look like.
Thanks for these reflections on the Meindl shoes. I’ve owned a number of their models and currently use the Dovre Pro. Do you have any thoughts about how they express their sizing? I see on your box they print UK12 and EU46. The Brannock conversion chart gives UK11 as the equivalent of EU46. As Meindl is a German company I assume their EU sizing is the correct one. (My Dovres say UK12 / EU47 on the inside label, by the way.) I’ve found this inconsistency in manufacturers’ EU/UK conversion to be a regular cause of difficulty in finding the correct fit.
I share your confusion. Meindl are German of course so operate in EU sizing which they convert for different markets. I'm 46 in Meindl but 48.5 in LOWA and Hanwag. It's infuriating.
I was in the Jermyn Street store a few weeks ago - the Ginger is stunning. My 'boots budget' is dry at the moment but I could have quite happily walked out with a pair of Ginger and Winter Smoke
I'm with you on that. I do like the ginger.
I have this boot, I love it. Indoor they look green but outdoors for some reason they appear brownish. Comfortable and stylish, not everyone’s cup of tea but it’s mine and I love them.
I have these boots in the plain toe version. It's good to see the captoe version. I've seen social media posts recently bemoaning the possibility of Rambler leather boots perhaps not being available due to Truman's mysterious future. As you pointed out, that seems to be a bit dramatic, as certainly other makers are capable of buying Rambler and making boots with it. I'm not a huge fan of Rambler, but do have a pair of Mohawk from Bordon. Anyway, people probably should not use conditioners made for smooth leathers on Rambler, if that's the "another brown boot" results they are seeing. Just my opinion. Thanks for the video!
Thank you. I hadn't realised Bordon had done a Mohawk
@ Yeah I bought an Isidro Chelsea during their Save the Ocean campaign in Stone waxy Mohawk.
I have a pair of Truman black shrunken bison upland moc toe boots with commando soles that I wear in freezing Canadian winter with feet of snow and slush and a wipe dry takes care of it and a dash of Venetian shoe cream, this is their third winter. Spray Rambler leather with suede protector out of the box, air dry, when dirty brush off grit. If you wet condition them they’re done for, people complaining about their boots simply haven’t looked after them properly .
I agree with that. I'm fussy with my investments.
I’ve purchased 30 pairs of Truman Boots I’ve had zero QC issues and great customer service. These few complainers are getting all the attention, all this speculation is just that, speculation. The boots are certainly flying off the website in mere minutes of being posted. I see Caswell or Parkhurst going down before Truman as they’re practically the same product IMO. No one else in the space does what Truman does and frankly I think they take flak for no apparent reason at all. He appears to have stated that if people are going to complain about certain products he simply wont offer them anymore, I put this down to customers being ignorant of what an artisanal product is. Just my two cents, have a pair arriving from Truman on Tuesday.😎🤘👍🇨🇦
For the price, truman is kinda bum. So many other manufacturers out there with higher quality for the same price or lower! Also, JK is WAY more comfy without using inferior material
I tend to agree. I can't see myself buying any more even if my size is offered.
Salesperson doesn’t know anything about waxed flesh, Tricker’s boots that are “heavy duty” are made for guys on a pheasant hunt with water dogs driving brand new LandRovers.
Lol
My guess is they are going to start focusing on non-boot products......aka shoes and loafers. They are cheaper to build material wise, sell for almost the same price, and has a larger market.
And every other company is already doing the same
once Truman high gusset their Upland model , I'll take them seriously
I'd hate to see the current version of Truman fold, or morph into something else. That said, I own Red Wing, Grant Stone and Viberg boots, as well as others, but no Trumans. I guess my history might illustrate Vince's problem. Cheers
In all honesty, i have no doubt that whatever truman boot becomes they will succeed because of vinces attention to detail. He isnt some clown who bought a company and is squeezing it for money, he knows everything and every aspect of his company. I think what will become of truman is that they will expand their line to work boots. Why? Even red wing company their best sellers are their work boots not their heritage. I think vince will most likely take something like steel toed boots and improve the leather and comfort and introduce a steel toed or heavy work duty boots that both the regular everyday person can appreciate and the heritage collectors can appreciate it. I also would expect vince to take his company or a whole new company to a direction that thursday has, going for fashion as well. In reality only time will tell but i am excited to see what vince has for the public.
I have a pair of the brown double shot and was looking at their cypress but even using their sizing guidelines I'm probably suited to their wide width. Even with my limited collection, I usually have to buy a couple pair of boots before I can dial in which size I need when making another order. They're beautiful boots and while I'd like a pair of Nick's Americanas exactly how I want them, the months (6-10) long wait is a downside but again, getting the exact size, width construction, hardware, sole, heel etc. (to a certain extent) is an advantage. Waiting to see what Truman does going forward.
The entry of so many brands into this segment of the market (that is already considered "small") probably has Truman (and other companies as well) thinking about their strategy. It's turned out that we hear about it from Truman and, as far as I know, not as much from other makers. If a company wants to grow its revenue, it seems logical to expand its products to entice additional buyers. From my perspective as a consumer, I hope we will always have the opportunity to buy from Truman the boots they are known for making today. But it's true, when you talk about long-lasting rebuildable products, customers can/will only purchase so many before they can't/won't buy again.
I already have nine pairs of rebuildable long lasting boots. Considering that I am working from home, I already questioned myself is it wise to buy more
These boots dont deserve the title "rugged and resilient"
I grabbed a pair of Uplands for a song. Very pleased with the stacks discounts (loyalty and Black Friday).
Very correct! I have the same and they make them not lying or small, but short in height (the amount of leather). I think Truman has corrected that now
What a weird dude with a weird opinion. They're the right size.
I had a hard time following the points being made in this video. Maybe this was in reaction to whatever tweets were being made, but in terms of Truman's website, Black Friday deals, etc., there doesn't seem to be any signs that they are doing anything but expanding and building an even larger customer base. I've had a few Truman customer service inquiries and unlike other PNW brands, Truman provides quick and helpful responses. Maybe I am missing something, certainly could be the case and no disrespect intended, but I didn't hear anything shared in this video that seemed like evidence of any problems.
I should have referenced Carl Marawski's video on the same subject. Don't get me wrong, I respect him, but he said less than me. In truth, none of us know but it does seem that something is going on. Thanks for you thoughts.
Uh
Wearing my brown double shots as I'm watching this (and typing this comment), I do like their construction and fitting guide but my toes are a bit cramped in D width (using their sizing guide) but if I were to get another pair, they'd be in natural cypress. This is a bit alarming so might have to look at White's as I don't feel like waiting months for another pair of Nick's.
The truman twitter account always seemed unstable and constantly beefing with people. He is still making new tweets being deliberately coy. He has big plans but doesnt want to say what. Then why say anything at all? Dude needs to put down the phone.
I've heard a few bits and pieces regarding Truman recently. I deactivated my Twitter account due to all the current nonsense going on, so I don't know exactly what the owner might have written there. Just that he might have alluded to a change in direction of some sort. The company had invested in infrastructure and machinery that seemed to up their game in terms of production volume over this past year. To me, it seemed like they were becoming a real player. I had no problems with a purchase earlier this year, and they instituted a loyalty program that to me was a sign of improved IT capabilities and customer service. All this is conjecture, but perhaps the owner sees a higher profit potential in competing at a higher volume and lower price point, like Thursday, with emphasis on "lifestyle" rather than "heritage." Or perhaps the company has reached a level where they might sell to a larger brand. Or the owner just wants to do something different. Impossible to know at this point, and I don't see how it benefits Truman to make these oblique references.
I agree. I forgot to mention the investments in the video. Like you say, volume capability but also a new sole unit and very expensive new last.
Hahaha we won the election fair and square. X is the most free social media platform that has the left and right together and you cannot handle it. Why do you need constant censoring of your enemies in order to stay on a platform?

Trumans owner on twitter actually said the opposite of what you just wrote he says "were exiting the lifestyle type of boot" so i dont know what that means, i dont know why hed wanna compete with nicks and whites for the work side of things when he has such a nice niche market right now that hes carved out. few people buy trumans for hard wearing work boots. so they would lose a lot of their established cusotmer base instantly.
@@TheMIghtyElmo exiting the heritage boot market and upscaling production is not a contradiction if what they are manufacturing is something other than heritage boots.
Hello my friend. Ive always found it difficult to buy from Truman in our big sizes. I have signed up for the notifications on certain models but have never received one. I finally scored a new pair of Coach Ramblers on the secondary market in my size and I love them. The posts from Truman are cryptic and really doesn't explain anything. Im hoping to buy more in the future. Thanks for your opinion on this matter.
Yes it took me about 5 attempts to get the notifications.
Thank you - great informative video
I've cleaned and conditioned them a few times now with no I'll effects.
the 20 last is basically a wide. although i can understand being across the pond might be a deal breaker for a gamble. but if you come across one on ebay or local you might try it. the heel is supposed to be minimally smaller as well
Thanks. You are correct : taking a chance isn't an option for me.
Hi there, so you went a full size up due to the length and also the wide fit too? Many thanks
Trickers are the best a man can get, together with Crockett and Jones in this price range, different league to all the pretenders.
Oh! I learn something with every comment. I hope both work out. I'm going to do a video about after market insoles - not a brand review but a should you and why. Thanks for your comments.
Hey I tried my size 10 and a 10.5 and finally settled on 11 a full size up like you. I’m having second thoughts of returning them and getting a 10.5. How did the full size up work out for you? Any blisters etc?
No blisters. I'm getting used to going up to 2 EU sizes up for hiking footwear.
@ thank you I’ll keep my size 11s
I bought a pair of stow at the London store…: we probably had the same salesman. After a lot of walking around the store he told me I had the right size. I now think that he might have been off about that. The problem was I had broken my toe the night before and my foot was numb when I was trying on the boots. Once my toe was no longer swollen and I could feel it weeks later, I could feel my toes hitting the front of the boot. I’ve stuck with it and now the boot is broken in and softer. But I need to wear a very thin sock or my toes on one foot (which is wider and slight longer) feel jammed. But I love the stow boot. When the factory store did a sale I bought another pair a half size larger. Yes they are more roomy. But my toes don’t hit the front. Which means I can wear them for a full day with a normal sock. I will probably use some insoles when they fully break in because I know once they soften up they may be a little loose. But I’ll take that over my toes jamming into the front. Personally, I think the stow is a little short in the toe box.
I've had to go true to size on trumans and even then the toebox feels crammed a bit for me.
hi from Dublin, just order a pair, hope they fit🤞
I hope so too. When you get them, let me know how they fit compared to other footwear.
@@hantswalker5215 I will. Have to buy online. Shop in Dublin don't sell wide fit
I know what you mean. I've worn the JWF many times but they are still on the break in and my feet get sore after 4 hours. First time out with the Trickers average fit, I wore for 11 hours without any problems.
I really like my Trumans but even using their email sizing guide they recommended D width but they are snug after several wears and require me to use a shoe horn so I don't crush the heel counter....so next will be natural cypress in their wide/EE width.
the Predator orange has one of the most beautiful patinas
If some strange man says my boots are ugly that’d be a fight on sight. Lmfao.
😂
According to the Brannock conversion chart a UK 12 is a US 12 1/2 and EU 47
Interesting. Thank you.
Very helpful. I asked for comments and you have provided. I appreciate that. I changed the laces yesterday for some slimmer and more slippery waxed ones. Good move as it's much easier to fine tune the tightness. For less formal wear I'll swap for laces with colour and criss cross rather than ladder, which is what the guys in the shop do with their own boots.
T does take time to break the stows in. The cald learher is now for me soft. It does inwould say take a couple of weeks wear. The sole is very thick and is weighted so give a few weeks and gradually creases will form and the leather soften. Its not as soft as grain or hatch leathers buts it is very comfortable. Iv an issue currently with one leather. Waxy commander. I cant seem to get it comfortable in comparison!!
I just got my Stows last week. I’ve heard it takes about 24 hours of actual walking to break a shoe in and I think I’m about seven in. But rather than walking around my house I’ve been charging up and down hills in the woods quite aggressively. Each time I wear them they are more comfortable than the last. I’m curious how the leather will be in the long run but if they get buttery soft I have to imagine it will take a good little while. My fit conundrum is similar to yours. I’m in the USA and ordered them after briefly trying them in London. When I got them I was worried they were much too big. They probably are a half size too big, but of course there is no half size down. They are my longest shoe and maybe my widest. What throws me off maybe is the vertical room in the vamp. I haven’t had many boots at all, just Alden Indies, but these don’t fit like any shoes I’ve ever had. However when I’m walking down steep hills I appreciate the extra room in the toe. When I wear heavy winter socks they don’t seem small at all and then I realize that I couldn’t wear those socks in hardly any of my other shoes. My feet are actually not very wide but I need a wide toe box because of my Morten’s Neuroma and these have more than enough space. I’m curious how they’ll fit in the end, but even if they’re a bit big I can work with that.
Great boots anyway…..I love them….
Thank you. How long does it take to get soft? I've done about 10 hours around the house so far.
The stow does become super soft . The leather is very high quality. I have a chestnut burnished version and it's among the most comfortable in my collection of Grant Stone, Truman, Trickers and Carlos Santos. Killer boots, the stows.
An absolute fabulous looking boots. The thing that strikes me here is how fine the stitching is. I could see the stitching on the lining and on the welt, really impressive.
