  • Which is the best version of the popular Targhee walking boot? The result may be surprising. I've had about 5 years experience of the Targhee II and about 5 weeks of the III but I reckon I know what both boots are about.

After one year of use of use on paved and unpaved trails, I've found the Targhee 111's pretty darn good. They are waterproof, with good toe protection and plenty of room for my toes in the toe box. I wear either cotton everyday socks or medium wight wool socks. Quite happy with the purchase and the price which sees to have climbed quite a bit since.

Thank you Daniel. I've rather fallen out with Keen since I did the video. I agree with your comments and stick with what I said myself. However, my Targhee shoes and boots seem to have a life of two years regular use and then they fall apart.

You're absolutely right!I think the IIs are the perfect boot, except for the grip! I wish they'd update only the sole on them.

Thank you. My wife bought a pair of Oboz Bridger Mid today. She is more fussy than I am with footwear but she loved them instantly. The quality of construction and materials puts them a step above Keen..... at a price.

I just found a 59% OFF on the TIII that delivers in my country. I just ordered 2 pairs. The boot style like your and the other one that are not over the ankle! Payd like 113 Euros(delivery included) for both of them😁

I wanted to like the IIIs as well. Didn't work out as well as my last 2 pairs of Targhee IIs, so off to find a suitable replacement. Merrell, Vasque?..

I have Vasque and they are OK. Merrell have had quality issues but I have not tried them.

I tried the III at REI and they felt great but I decided to wait for a sale. Got home and found a big online reseller who had them for over 40%off so I bought and quickly returned them. Not even the same boot. The ones at REI were made in Thailand and fit perfect. The ones I got online were made in India. While they looked the same they were one of the worst fitting boots I ever tried. To top it off when looking at the sole from the heal to the toe you could see a noticable concave in the tread. When I get the ones at REI Ill double cjeck and amend this but Im guessing they wont look warped.

Wow. Never heard of that before. Due to my size, I can only purchase directly from Keen so they have been fine.

Since I have wide feet (4E) I might just get the ii again, thanks.

Yes I'd say the II. It's a little wider.

How many months into use did sole fail?

    • @hantswalker

A couple of years. It was scrambling over rock that did it. Then my Targhee III did exactly the same after one year. Then my Targhee III low failed on both shoes at the toe after 1 year of regular light use. 😢
