I've experienced this. I end up eating way more than what I craved for, what I wanted, what I needed. In fact, when I crave for a particular food, eating a very small quantity also satisfies my craving, and I stop there. It took me years to realise this simple truth, but better late than never.

In my country we call that yakult, and it helps when your stomach hurts :D
