Ride the Byroads West Coast | Adventure Ride | Tasmania | Kawasaki Versys X300 & BMW R1250GS
In this episode I am back on Tasmania's amazing Ride the Byroads trail!
This time I am jumping head first into the new West Coast route with Darrel and some friends of the Byroads from the Australian mainland. I went into this leg a little blind, as it was a spur of the moment decision, but wow was I in for a treat! We stop at some really amazing points of interest along the trail, including the geographical center of Tasmania. Plenty of fun gravel and twisty tarmac on this one guys, with just a touch of wet weather.. We hope you enjoy!
I want to say a massive thank you to the guys at Ride the Byroads for their support while I am in Tasmania. Please show your support by checking out their website at the following link;

    Great start to the West Coast leg! Such a shame it was raining and grey over Lake Burbury. That's one of my favourite parts of the West Coast route when it is clear and blue. I haven't been to the geographical centre. We've added that to our trip list.

      Thank you for your support! 😁 The shot of the mountains opening up over Lake Burbury was one I was very hopeful of getting, but the weather obviously had other ideas! 😅 Im very happy to hear that I've helped add a location to explore to your list! Thank you for taking the time to comment. ✌🏻

      Hi MotoKatTas, It was a shame about Lake Burbury, that too is one of my favourite locations. You burst out of the forest and onto the bridge, and it opens up to the lake and mountains. 👌 If you have the time, you can check out the Tassie Adventure Rider video of our trip to the West Coast at the 8:55-minute mark, the weather played its part that day. @RideTheByroads stunning! That's the way to experience it. We're just waiting for my husband's 450MT to eventually get here, and then we'll be set. Hopefully me and my versys-x 300 handle it as well as Troy and his borrowed ride. 🤞

    • @TheBadIdeaBros
      @TheBadIdeaBros 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Im sure there would be something aftermarket available, but they're usually a generic fit and require a bit of mucking around to make work. The air box this scooter came with (amongst the pile of parts) had been drilled and mucked around with considerably, I assume in an effort to increase air flow. All I saw it doing was letting in water and debris, the paper filter in it looked like it had had a verh hard time and had water marks. So I actually sourced a standard replacement.

    CRF L and L Rally in the mix? That Transalp sounds good. I've had the tools out working on the two littler farm bikes (XR150L) today. One had seized and the one key for it is broken. The other I was looking at getting registered but someone stole it (had 4 locks on it) but the mongrels munted the tank and the triple clamp getting past the keyed bits. At least I've confirmed it turns over so should be running soon.

      @TheBadIdeaBros 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Haha, yeah. We have the full set in the group - 250L, 250 Rally, 300L and 300 Rally! 😅 The Transalp is a bit of a beast, but just doesn't see any use so it's time for it to go to a new owner. Sounds like you've been busy with the XR's! Hopefully a successful wrenching session?

      @@TheBadIdeaBros Both of the XR150L top triple clamps need work. One has one ingnition switch mount smashed off, will make another mount and weld it on. The other has the remains of a broken off bolt in a fork tube clamp. At least the stolen bike has been confirmed to turn over.

    Looked a lot of fun. That mud looks rather sticky. Had a similar problem out Ellesmere a few years ago with 4x4's, although it was flat the tyres filled and ended up with both not moving for a while; the top was so slick.

    • @TheBadIdeaBros
      @TheBadIdeaBros 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Haha, fun is one word for it. 😅 It actually was a laugh, but bloody hard work, especially on the small bikes! This is a trail I'd like to return to for another group ride, as it was an excellent challenge! Ellesmere can absolutely get the same slick, sticky mud. I've seen it personally, but man it must have been bad to beach two 4x4's!

    • @gadgetman_nz4092
      @gadgetman_nz4092 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@TheBadIdeaBros Yeah, both 4x4's with pretty new aggressive mud tyres. Small bikes are probably easier because the power is more controllable and they're easier to manhandle. Mind you a dose of throttle to spin the rubber clear can help.

      Small bikes are an interesting beast in these conditions. Enough power for a laugh, but not enough to pull through the worst of it. 😅 A lot of pushing required.

    Non adv rider here....why would you not have the TC off to start? Then you stalled and said, "no can't do without TC" which makes no sense to me as the point of no TC is so it doesn't kill the power. Honest question. Thanks.
