It definitely does make a difference, but the 450MT still handled itself pretty well in those conditions on stock tyres. We went back after Carl had better tyres fitted and it was a night and day difference!
@@TheBadIdeaBros I reckon it will too. Changed to road final drive instead of farm gear yesterday. Can now get up to the open road speed limit. Topped out at 75km/h when I picked it up.
There was a story in The Press about a group of local residents who specialise in rescuing vehicles that get bogged down in Birdlings Flat gravel and they said some vehicles are brand new even Range Rovers.
I actually have a Himalayan test ride coming up in next week's episode! I didn't subject it to anything like Birdlings - the stock tyres just wouldn't cope, but I still hit some gravel, so keep your eye open for that next Sunday. 😁
Bugger that deep gravel! But... I am thinking of taking my Tracer 700 up a dirt track or 2 on the port hills.. the thing holding me back- it has cast wheels & road tires. 😅 Is this a Bad Idea, Bro?
Haha, the deep gravel is always a challenge! 😅 The CB500X in this episode was on cast wheels and managed okay with the normal gravel (he wisely opted out of the Birdlings crossing) so I can't see you having too much of an issue with the lovely gravel around the Banks Peninsula. You can find a bunch of trails and information on Adventure Guide - www.adventureguide.co.nz/?aff=5b600098 We plan the majority of our rides around that website! Hope this helps!
Honestly, my opinion is that they are two different bikes for two different jobs. The Rally is light, nimble and very forgiving which makes it great on trail, but lackluster on the highway. The 450MT is heavier and a bit more of a handful on trail but great on road. It'd depend on what type of riding you mostly do as to which I'd recommend.
Three people to pick up a CB500 or whatever it was , and that is the reality of the weight of these bikes , that is why the 300 rally is the only realistically weighted bike a solo rider should ride on real off road .
Great fun day out, thanks for inviting me 😊
More than welcome, glad you enjoyed it! 😁
That 450 definitely looks like a capable machine and great value!
They definitely are a lot of bike for the money! They of course have their limitations, but that's true of all bikes. So far so good with these ones!
Loving the MT content 👌
Happy to hear that Jonno! How is yours treating you?
@TheBadIdeaBros it's going great 👍 👌 couldn't be happier, just need this rain to stop long enough to ride !
Glad to hear you're loving it! The wet weather won't last, you'll be out and about before you know it! 👌🏻😁
The Honda Rallys sure showed how big of a difference 40 kilos makes when the going got tough. looks like a great place to ride.

Looks like a great ride. That flat water looked awful tempting.
This is always a fun little loop to do thats close to home with a good mix of surfaces. The water was spectacular that day!
@@TheBadIdeaBros I just bought a wee bike for finding spots around the peninsular to launch a kayak. Great being back on a bike.
That soundslike an awesome base for adventures. 😁

I do remember you saying that you struggled with top speed when riding it back. As well as the horrific wind!
Was that you I saw in Governors Bay today Troy? I was on the red and black GSA and waved.
Quite possibly, yes. We were filming with the Keeways and did make our way through Goveners. A lot of bikes on the road on Sunday, it was good to see!
@@TheBadIdeaBros Yes it was definitely you because I saw the Keeyways
Haha, we can't get away with anything. 😅
That gravel is absolutely nasty, the last thing you needed was a stone hitting your camera lens.☹
Another entertaining episode Troy. 👌

@@petercreagh8797 haha that’s hilarious. There’s an opportunity to make some money on the side and donate it.😀
@@petercreagh8797 I just don't go in there anymore it's a pain in the ass 🤣
Now that's a great idea. 👌🏻
I do remember seeing this! I can't say I was surprised at all, Birdlings has always been a place that can catch you out if you're not careful. 😅
Awesome! Have you tried the Himalayan 450 in the same place?

That MT sounds so much better than the Honda.
They definitely do sound good right out of the box!
Which is the better bike Honda crf300 rally or cfmoto 450mt?

Which is exactly why I wouldn't part with my Rally even if I do buy a new MT or RE. The tougher rides are always more achievable on a lighter bike!

@@thelonewolf666 Yeah right , a toy model one perhaps .
