HOOT & NANNY HOMESTEAD
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 3 ธ.ค. 2018
They had it all, their children were raised, they had grandchildren growing up around them. They had a small farm is the suburbs of Fayetteville Arkansas, a well established garden, farm animals, life was good. Then they decided to move....they sold it all and moved to a new place with nothing but woods and a rickety cabin. They are going to have to re-establish everything they had already worked so hard to build on the other farm.
Nanny worked in construction for years before she started work for the US government. She is now retired from that position and has picked up the saw and hammer again to make this dream come true. Hoot now works in logistics after serving as a US Marine for 13 years. Hoot and Nanny together are a power house of skills and talent that could bring life to any dream. As they work to make their dream come true, they will also be helping make others dreams come true. Because they believe that giving is better then receiving.

Never Give Up
มุมมอง 6764 ปีที่แล้ว
An accident on the homestead that could have been prevented, leaves me fearful of using power tools. But after seeing a pumpkin seed pushing through and growing in horrid conditions I decide that if that seed refused to give up, under bad conditions that maybe I should be the same way. hootnannyhomestead@gmail.com

We are in need of more storage space so I decide to take advantage of every option I could. The OLD dog house becomes a new MINI Workshop/Tool Storage shed. We have been very blessed with a life full of people to help and thangs to keep us busy. But we got a lot of loose ends tied off and candles that were burning at both ends got a big bucket of water poured on em. Thangs are finally starting to slow down well enough that I was able to take some time to let you know....We are Still Kickin'. hootnannyhomestead@gmail.com

Washroom Walls
มุมมอง 2905 ปีที่แล้ว
I found a few minutes to toss up part of one wall in the washroom and got a little work done on another one or two, I guess progress is progress no matter how slow it may go. My oldest daughter and her 18 month old little girl has moved to the homestead with us, so Nanny has became a full time Nanny while mama works. So the work around the homestead has slowed to a crawl, literally. We could re...
Blue In the Loo / Finishing Sheetrock

The music in this video is not to be used without permission from Nanny, it is her own creation and has a copyright. We really needed to move this project along so I was forced to use sheetrock when I really really didn't want to use ANY, anywhere in the cabin. But as they say....You gotta do what you gotta do, and these walls had to be covered before winter sets in on us. hootnannyhomestead@gm...

How often do i oil rollers
How do you maintenance the washer. I just bought one and not sure if I need to oil it or what. I had to lay it on its side to get it home. I want to learn everything I can about it. Of course no maintenance book with it. Thanks.
@@DianaTimm-e4w I did find an original digital copy of my washers user manual online. Search for yours. Use the model number and name when searching. I did pay a small fee for it. But it was worth it.
@@DianaTimm-e4w when you lay one on its side it may leak oil from its gears. If so the oil will need to be replaced.
Put a splash of vinegar in the rinse water. The soap water is alkaline so rise water needs to be slightly acidic to make clothes neutral again. It also helps kill moulds and softens clothes by removing the left over soap.
Or you could get an automatic washer and dryer!
@@biggbobb7696 I have many reasons why I don’t. To each his own.
Thank you.
Where can I buya wringer Washing Machine?
Use soap to wash your dirty ass with
You have a very big mouth
Hello I have my grams Maytag wringer washer and my sister got something clogged under the wringer and I don't know how to get it off to unclog it. It just pulls off without the screw top on it. Am I doing something wrong since it's not coming off? Thank you in advance.
If your machine is like mine. And the clog is under the two rollers. You can hit the teal release bar on the top side and you should be able to lift up the cover. Then remove rollers and get it out. Making sure you remember where everything came from and placing each item back in its place. Video taking it apart so you can remember how if your like me. Lol. Once everything is back in place tighten the rollers back up by twisting the top teal bar on top of roller cover. Let me know if that works.
Thank you for explaining the buttons, I’ve been using our wringer washer for months and was not sure how to wash them! Thank you again for your explanation of using the washer. Next is jeans! 😂.
See my overhauls video if you want to understand how to do large buckles and zippers and buttons on jeans and overalls.
@@hootnannyhomestead8338 I watched it after I had watched this video thank you for your helpful tips!!
Do you have any info on how to upkeep or care for/clean these machines? I got one and it's really hard to find any information on it. You seem to have knowledge beyond your use and I'd love to get some insight!

This is one of the most thorough review I've ever seen. You did a great job explaining laundry day with a ringer washer.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks.
I've broken some Jean steel buttons Thank you for showing me how you do jeans!!! Really appreciate it!!

Hi where can I purchase the green extender hose that screws onto the machine drain hose? Thank you
At any garden center. It’s just a common garden hose. Thanks for watching.
The story behind your tiny cabin in the woods was such great FUN to listen to! Your cleverness of using natural materials gleaned from your mother-in-law's property, give your cabin a homespun personality as well as practical authenticity. Thank you Nanny (and Hoot) for opening your tiny Home Sweet Home for all us town and country folk to visit! 💝
You’re so welcome. It means even more to me now that mama in law is in elder care and she no longer lives at that property she cared for so many years. It was sold. I have tiny pieces of it with me always now. I hope to do more tiny stuff videos one day.
After my parents were married in 1954, my father went to a thrift store and bought a broken Maytag Model E2L like your wringer washer (except it had a red safety bar). It had a broken part, so my father bought the replacement part from the Maytag appliance store and fixed it himself. My mother used the E2L until her parents came to visit. Her father was appalled that his daughter had to use a wringer washer so he went to the appliance store and bought her a brand new automatic washer. My father took the E2L to his mother's house and set it up on her back porch. She used that wringer washer until the 1980s with minimal maintenance by my father. In the meantime, my mother wore out 2 automatic washers.
Too much talkin for me…
The arm on the top of my maytag wringer won't lock in place. What's wrong
I love these machines, even though they are not automatic or modern, they have such a strong agitation. Plus, they're cool. When I was a kid my parents bought an old farm in Michigan, and one of these machines was left behind by the owner. As kids we loved to use these, we'd get dirty just to be able to wash more clothes.
Nanny you are brave to use a hand gun. Here in New Hampshire I always had my combination hunting /fishing license that came with a hefty hunter safety course. I am comfortable with a 20 G boy's Remmington youth express pump. I am 5'4" with a short arm. I like that when all five shells are "pumped" out I KNOW the shotgun is empty. It had full and modified choke. Good for duck hunting. Noone in their mind would challenge me with that Remmihngton. I can hit TWO barns with my eyes shut :-O
Nice finished kitchen work table Nanny. I opted for a farm table instead of an island. So much better for me to sit and work if I want to ... and use it for the main eating table as well. I have a Hoosier metal top farm table in restoration mode and I can grind meat on my Hoosier baking cabinet - pull out table. Both those Hoosier tables are currently my art station because I can spill paint on the surfaces. I like the width of your table. So multi purpose! ~ Diane
So Nanny- four years later, how did your design change? I may need to look around your channel for a more recent one, but good to see what you started with. Our modular home was set on its walk-in foundation in the fall of 2016. And our kitchen is still a work in progress! There is supposed to be a good sized 3 or 4 season back porch that we put on hold due to lumber prices. I really counted on having that porch for a large pantry and canning area. Our kitchen wood stove takes up a good amount of kitchen space because it is not airtight. We also have a 2016 propane range. Our house is open concept so there is some wiggle room between the kitchen and living room. Yours looks functional, with everything at hand. I'm still working on that. ~ Diane
Good Wednesday morning Nanny- Thanks for this jeans/overalls video. Good to know. Two overalls and two jeans. I wondered how to put through pants with zippers and especially the overalls. Love that reverse feature! Apparently my mother-in law had an accident or two with one husband and four sons in farm overalls :-O The wringer did not fare too well. It works, but has damage/cracks. There is no top bar over the rollers. See the photos I emailed you today.
Nanny- found this video today, as I now have a Sears wringer washer outside. We are repairing the septic system, so I am not using my regular washer. You would have laughed, I filled the machine from the garden hose, added laundry and it proceeded to drain! Figured out to keep that drain hose up high. Then I washed the clothes for 15 minutes and drained the washer, like my modern one, adding clean water to agitate and rinse. Then through the wringer. It was pretty comical, but I get my laundry clean and on the line :-)
That’s awesome girl. You are not alone on the comical side. I sometimes still do things that would make AFV top video. But like you laundry is clean in the end. So glad you found you a running wringer washer. Welcome to the family.
Hi again Nanny- I just found your email. Will send you a shout out :-) Hashtag will say " DIANE CALLING NANNY FROM OUR NH FARM"
I Remember These Ring Washer Machine In 1968 & 1969 When My Oldest Cousin Used To Washed Our Clothes!! When I Was Between 4 And 5 Year's Of Age!! I Remember The Washer Used To Be Round Shaped!! PS:. The Whites With The Whites Clothes, The Darker Clothes With The Darker Colors!! And So On.
Hey Don thanks for the comment. The main reason I don’t wash my clothes by color piles is because your re-using the water from load to load. So I wash cleanest to dirtiest. Back in the old days people washed by color mostly because dyes bleed. These days our clothes don’t bleed as badly as they did then. But I still test wash new items in the tub before tossing in the washer. Thanks a bunch.
That's some Great advice!!! Thank you and now your Hubby knows how much you think of him and his cloths!😇😁😇

Same here! Maytag wringer washer only. Mother Nature dries my laundry. Thanks for a great video. The government just announced today new restrictions on washers. Glad I got my Maytag!
Thank you! Great video! ❤️
I'm so glad I found this series! I'm just getting my first wringer washer and these are so helpful!
How do you dry clothes in winter? And why not have Hoot make you some laundry line poles?? They stick in the ground and lift up your line so things don't drag on the grass.
I dry them outside unless it’s freezing weather. Then I do smaller batches and hang them indoors. We live in the south part of the USA and only have about 8 weeks of really nasty winter weather. So it’s not to bad. I am very familiar with laundry line poles. Made a few myself, even had one on the line at first. It broke and I never replaced it. Hoot tied the line a lil higher and tighter the other day and fixed the issue. The clothes lines I have now are temp. The area I want my clothes line right behind the cabin is not cleared yet. Still timber there. When it gets cleared I will be building myself some really nice clothes lines. Shouldn’t need line poles with them. Lol hope not. Thanks for your comment.

nice setup. Most agitators don't come out of automatic machines to get that clean.
Thanks. Your right. Love my machine.

I have watched three different videos on wringer washers and no one knows how to us a wringer washer... this is sad 😢 I have four children and used my washer for years, they are awesome if you know how to use .😢😢
Thank you dear lady. I was wondering how my mother did the laundry. Let us not forget!!
I think it would be a good idea to use a stick or a pole of some sort like the cut off rounded end of a wooden broom handle. Much easier and its safer than sticking hands and arms into the wash tub. Love your vids!
I do have a stick to punch down the laundry. But I just use my hands. Once you get use to where those agitator paddles are at you can do it safely. Thanks.
I think it would be a good idea to inform people to use some sort of wooden stick, like the round end of a wooden broom pole to push the clothes down into the washer instead of putting your hands and arms into it, for ease and for safety reasons.
The one I have just like yours has a switch on the side at the bottom that you switch to on and it pumps the water out and it pumps it out fast and hard I hook the water hose up to it like you did in this video and it pumps the water out that water hose so hard I can literally put a spray nozzle on it and water my flowers with it lol.. does yours have that too?
Wow that’s handy. No mine is a slightly different model. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks
As my brother says. "you get your hand caught in the wringer, you'll only do it one".
my roller has popped up and I can't get it back together again, what can I do?
Do you mean you ran something through it to large and it popped up? Or the top roller came completely off? And what kind of machine do you have?
yes and it was a blanket it got twisted and well pop goes the wezel how do I get it back together it's a matag
@@bryansevera3893 well there should be a lever (it may look more decorative) on top of your roller housing that is long and sits right on top. It will turn only one way. That is your reset lever. If that don’t fix it. Than it means you have popped you pins or gears or both out of place inside the roller housing. Don’t panic it is real simple. Lift top of housing up and look inside. Noticing what is where. The gears will only go in one way and the pins go back in the holes. There may only be one pin one hole. Set top back on while lining up pins with holes and then twist the lever to reset. If this fails. Email me. My email addy is in the description of all my videos. You can send me pics so I can see your situation. Or I can send you pics showing you what I’m talking about.
Also Bryan I went back and watched my Wringer Washer Part 1 and from 6:40-7:05 I talk about and show you how to reset the top when it pops up. Hope that helps.
I bought a new one in 1971.I miss having one.Where can you buy a Wringer washer ?
Yes you can still buy them. I have heard that Leamans sales them new. But keep an eye out for them online. You might get lucky like I did and find one for sale close to you.
My speed queen ringer hum when plugged in but wont start
Debbie that could be a number of things. I would google and or ask around for a repair person who works ok such things and see if they could look at it. Also don’t be afraid to call places that work on modern machines. Some of those older repair men know a lot about wringers. Best of luck.
I've never seen a washing machine that looks like that before.
It’s quite fun to use. Hope you enjoyed the video.
Hi. I just bought me one of these. I love it. But the water seal washers on the power head shaft that the agitator slides down on needs replaced. Would you happen to know where I could buy new ones?
I’m going to give you a web site to visit, the TH-cam web link screening in comments will block it if I don’t split it up. So put it all together with no spaces. cottage craft works . Com they sale parts, manuals and many other helpful things. Let me know how it goes.
And if they don’t have what you need try. Daves repair . Com
Thanks so much. I've been trying with no luck but I'm going to try the website you gave me because just the sound of the website sounds like they will have it. Now one thing I want to ask it that does your wringer rollers work by compressed are or does it run electrically? The one I have looks like yours but it has a skinny grey rubber tube on it and I just recently found out that you have to have a foot pump that pumps air to the rollers and switches them on to run lol. They said the original pumps are extremely hard to find and if you do find one it's probably going to be dry rotted so I went out and bought me a foot bicycle air pump that you press with your foot and it actually makes it come on and roll the rollers I'm glad I got that problem solved but now for getting new washers for it. But reason I asked you that is because they told me some models rollers didn't have to have a foot pump and but the model I got happens to have to have a air pump to make it run. Lol I wish I could have got one that didn't need a air pump but I've got that problem solved and it works fine. Thanks again for the website.. also sorry for the late reply I looked up your video again and went down to comments and seen where you commented back to me. I'm subscribing to your channel now and hitting the bell so that I'll be notified when you answer back..
What if you can't get it to agitate
If you are pulling out on the knob that starts the agitator and nothing is happening. Your belt drive on the motor could be loose, slipping or come off. Or if the machine is old and not been used recently it could have rusted and seized the drive belt. Or worse case scenario, a gear is broken. Let me know!
