    I just found your channel. Love it! I was going to suggest taking the door off of the oven and removing the racks inside or lowering them. And see if the toaster oven would fit in that space til you got the oven fixed 😁. Then I saw the date on the post. Anyway, love your “make do with what you have” attitude!
    Several years ago, my husband and I built a work shop out of old culled logs originally for a log house. We bought the culls from someone that had bought culls from a log home place. We bought his culls. Some are rounded, some are squared off. We made them work. Over the years we cleaned it out sanded and sealed the work bench for a kitchen counter, stains, dents, gouges and all. We cleaned and stained the concrete floors ourselves. It is now the family gathering spot. No kitchen sink, but pool table, couches, and big tv😁

      Yes oven is working now. Glad you got a place you love. You sure love it more when you put blood sweat and tears into it. Thanks for watching.

    Hi, nanny! My grandkids call me nanny, I just want to tell you, how much I love the old primitive, country, cabin look, the dry sink is awesome, my kitchen in my cabin is made up of pieces I bought from auctions, flea markets, your butcher block table will be beautiful, one of a kind, I actually found d an old butcher block table at a antique store, it came from an old store that had a meat market , from Memphis , Tenn. Gave 300 for it, it's pretty old, mr. Brown bought me an old settlers cabinet, my sink came out of my mother in laws old farmhouse, I need to do video on my cabin, love the video, xoxoxo

      O Mrs. Brown you are so sweet, thanks. One day we will have to visit each others kitchens and do cooking episodes. I would love to see a tour video of your kitchen. I have seen things around your kitchen that caught my eye and attention. I would love to see more. Sounds like you got a great deal on that butcher block.

    Nanny, I love your kitchen. Every detail. The old tins, the glass cabinet, your outdoor table, the fabric skirting. Looks like my grandmother's house before she got a more modern update. You are doing a great job. Love you.

      O Granny Bee you just made my day. I am doing my best to re create a cabin home feel of what so many of my family's homes looked like when I was a child. I have only began to put things in place and to get someone to say that they are already starting to see the results has made me so happy. I am trying to create an old pioneer poor backwoods homestead look. I am so glad to see someone noticed. I love you to girl.

    • @grannybee6805
      @grannybee6805 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, to what you said about the homes in your childhood. I had several "back-woods" kin folks, and this truly was how they lived. My dad went to the Army and used his first flushing toilet. He learned to be a diesel mechanic and the oil boom was big in Odessa, Texas. He moved us out there and made a good life for us, but we came back regularly to visit both sets of grandparents. I was 12 when grandma and grandpa finally got electricity to their home. She got a gas stove and put the wood stove outback in the smoke house. She got running water at the kitchen sink and a bathroom. We did not have to draw water after that. She did have a flushing toilet, but half the time we still used the outhouse. They thought we were rich. I strongly suspect that my dad paid for the improvements, and that is why they thought we were rich. But I still miss my grandma's (and other relative's) homes. @@hootnannyhomestead8338

    So Nanny- four years later, how did your design change? I may need to look around your channel for a more recent one, but good to see what you started with. Our modular home was set on its walk-in foundation in the fall of 2016. And our kitchen is still a work in progress! There is supposed to be a good sized 3 or 4 season back porch that we put on hold due to lumber prices. I really counted on having that porch for a large pantry and canning area.
    Our kitchen wood stove takes up a good amount of kitchen space because it is not airtight. We also have a 2016 propane range. Our house is open concept so there is some wiggle room between the kitchen and living room. Yours looks functional, with everything at hand. I'm still working on that. ~ Diane

    Forgive my ignorance, but what state are you in? What is your winter like? Just wondering how you have no insulation.

    • @hootnannyhomestead8338
      @hootnannyhomestead8338  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We are in Arkansas. We don’t have very bad winters. Usually. We just finished having one of the worst winters I’ve ever experienced in my whole life living here in Arkansas and yes I was wishing I had some insulation but normally it’s not like that. We do have insulation in 95% of the cabin. The washroom was a new addition that just hasn’t been completed. We do plan on completing that insulation project this summer or fall.
