    I just purchased a 1892 hand turned Singer, I was thinking about that maybe one day I will hunt one down, and then one pretty saturday i opened facebook marketplace (because fate!) and there she was, I did not know if she was in working condition or if some barbaric person drenched her in cooking oil, but I was determined whatever her condition, she will be mine and I will save her and use her as god intended. I arrived, turned the hand crank and it was the smoothest little sewing machine noise thet I have ever heard. I think that is when the laugh-cry-faint feeling came over me that you have described here. She is currently at the mechanic just to make sure she is absolutely healthy and oiled in all the spots she needs, and I am longing to have her back so bad.

    The dress came out adorable! I actually just zigzag over the shirring thread and adjust later because my machine already has tension issues with normal thread. Another pocket solution: Use some ribbon to stabilize the length of the side seams (stitch in the ditch) and to attach the top of the pocket on the flappy side to the underarm seam. It’ll take the weight much better that way!

    You got so much of your capsule wardrobe done - be proud! You not only have wearable clothing that ranges from 'like' to 'love' you have produce clothing that's better quality than anything you can buy in stores these days. Well done. The jumpers are beautiful. Can't wait to see them blocked out - apparently the trick, according to Rajiv Surendra (on YT), is to keep measuring everything with a tape measure while it's all still wet?? Technically, for that blue skirt you're in like with, the next time you do the pattern you can add in more fabric by doing a front belly extension (sorry, don't know the exact technical term for it). Basically, it's a bust adjustment like-move to give you more fabric where you need it. You could also look into how to add a second dart to each side of the front and back? For the wrap around skirts, maybe have a series of 3 to 5 snaps to make sure the fabric holds position? _Garden Talk_ - The balcony veg and herb patch is still producing, as is the community garden plot. Thanks to the squash bugs we are not swimming in zucchini, but I'll be ready for them next spring and early summer. My experiment with making my own compost and organic feed teas have been working on the balcony, so next year I can scale up for the community garden. I just bought some Nepalese flags and some tonal wind chimes for the balcony patch (it's nice having a base background sound that's not construction, lol & sigh, and we're just down the block from the embassy). At night the Dollarama solar lights click on for an hour or three. It's the end of August and I'm missing the gardening already, if that makes any sense - first frost is due the beginning of October. How goes it for you? - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi

    • @Marlenasewing
      @Marlenasewing 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hello Cathy!! (and Steve!) It's always so nice to see a comment from you! Thank you so much for sharing your ideas! I am so happy (and slightly jealous haha) that you have a garden plot. I wish community gardens were more of a thing here in Norway too. I feel the same way as you - already missing gardening! I have to stop myself every second day from buying seeds, because I am already thinking about next years planting 😅 My growing season is rapidly coming to a close, as we have awful rainy weather nowadays. Last year, I planted some roses in containers on my balcony. Only one survived. It is a beautiful Canadian rose. I planted it in the garden and it's thriving. It makes me think of you (and Steve) every time I see it😊❤️❤️❤️ I will show it in the next video. Sending you a Big hug! Enjoy the last days of August and both your gardens ❤️😊

    • @stevezytveld6585
      @stevezytveld6585 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Marlenasewing Hey Sunshine! It took a few years for City Hall to get with the idea that Community Gardens are a good thing. I'm so glad we did (here we have the peer pressure of being a small city and the capital of the country - just need to find that left of centre city councilor to champion the cause for all the green thumbs out there - 10 or so e-mail letters asking for the same thing is, apparently, significant to city councilors). With inflation hitting food prices gardening is seeing the upswing in interest. Local governments are thankfully catching onto the idea. And yes completely daydreaming of next year; I started a garden book to record what went well and what got eaten. I've ended up plotting out next years garden and what heritage varieties I'm going to be planting. I found an Indigenous/Native women-owned business in the province who sell seeds - I am so stoked, these are the original OG of Heritage seeds that go back hundreds or thousands of years. With climate change insisting on being a thing I've figured to move away from the hybrids and concentrate on the older lines of seeds. Because I'm a seed saver and trader - better than baseball cards... lol. Next season I'm going to be volunteering at the garden at the Community Chaplaincy my husband runs in the west end of the city (Steve;s a Vocational Deacon with the Anglicans). Which brings me up to three veg gardens to flutter about with... LOL. Mmm. Roses. I've never tried them because of the reputation (that and we're north-west facing so we get very little sun for a few months in winter). It sounds lovely. Apparently there are ways to propagate /clone roses... Thank you for thinking of us when you see your blooms - that's lovely and a bit humbling. Just to put a bug in your ear - Canadian saffron (I know, right!??)... grows from a bulb, apparently will produce wee saffron stamens for years... I am personally intrigued and about to take a try with them on the balcony... As always, lovely to chat with you my Dear. Enjoy the end of the season, bittersweet as it is. See you around the interwebs. Scritches to the fur babies. Cheers!

    Darling you are so beautiful in all those outfits! I've had 'chunky' arems relative to the rest of me for years; turns out that is't oestrogen related. Saw Palmetto really helps along with magnesium. 🌺🌺🌺

      Thank you so much!! I really appreciate your comment! 🙏❤️❤️🥹 I store my "chunks" 😅 in exactly the same places as my mom. It might be genetic, but I am also working on balancing my hormones out. Thank you so much for recommending Saw Palmetto. I have never heard of it before! I had to scroll way down in google search past the results about benefits for prostate 😂 but it seems like it would really benefit me. Thank you for sharing you knowledge 🙏❤️

    I love the pieces but have different tastes in colors. Pussy blow blouses wouldn't work for me as Pepper and Sabrina would take it as an open invitation to claw the bow. My favorite is the black trousers. Its great to see and share with other sewers are doing. I am planning on my capsule wardrobe as I put on some weight but also because waist bands cause my abdominal surgery scars to hurt. I am sewing things out of a heavy stretch cotton twill and ponte knits. I buy in 12 meter lengths to ensure that the pants, skirts, vest and blazer are the same fabric. With 12 meters, there is enough left over for Bermuda shorts as well. I can't knit, so sweaters have to be bought. I will do ciagrette trousers and pencil skirts. I will do black and charcoal grey. I plan on a few retro 70s shirts with big collars in cotton and plan on French cuffs. Another blouse that is romantic era and two poet shirts, one on beige and one in black. Jorgen thinks my style choices are odd and a bit flashy but he says at least they are European influenced and styled. Most of my sewing has been for Jorgen. Sent him back to Sweden with three each chino trousers and jeans, four button front shirts, two vests and a corduroy blazer and a stretch cotton twill blazer. Also sent him back with a bit of a tan.

      Hello Susan! 😀❤️❤️ So nice read your comment. It always makes me smile! ❤️ (especially the part about sending Jorgen back to Sweden with a bit of a tan. haha! you're so cheeky, I love it!) I must say, the picture of Sabrina and Pepper playing with a bow is really cute in my mind. What colours do you gravitate towards? I am keeping my fingers crossed for your capsule wardrobe! Buying 12m of the fabric you liked is smart! Also, Jorgen is one lucky guy. You made SOOO MANY things for him! Sending a big hug to you and both your kitties! 🥹❤️❤️❤️❤️

      @@Marlenasewing I gravitate towards black as a middle aged Goth. I do grey, beige and red shirts for work. My youngest calls me the elegant Got. Jorgen calls me the Eurochic Goth as my clothes fit in nicely all over Europe. I consider myself to be a lazy Goth with a very very very low income as I wear ordinary clothes that are black. It will be another two years before I can return to work and disability is only $780 a month. My kids find good fabric for me and buy it, so that I can do projects. Jorgen is now six to seven shades darker than the snow instead of the usual two. He bought the fabric for his clothes and sat by me as I did them. It helped a little t with building up physical stamina and now walking is easier for me. The hardest part was to get a more stylish look to his Swedish nerd look. I am able to get a small discount at the stores if I buy 8+ meters of a fabric.
