7:33 DNA Haplogroups of Finland
What is the genetic history of Finland and what haplogroups are common in the country today? Now look at this map. It shows the speakers of Indo-European languages across Eurasia. You can see that Finland is a notable exception to this however, and this is because Finnish is a Uralic language, even though most countries around it speak an Indo-European language. But Finland isn’t just unique when it comes to its language family, it is also genetically very unique in Europe as well, making it even more fascinating to explore.
Now the majority of people in Finland live in the southern and southwestern parts of the country, with it’s capital, Helsinki, right at the bottom. The Sámi people, an indigenous people of northern Europe, live primarily in the north of the country, in a region known as Sápmi, which stretches over northern parts of Norway, Sweden, and Russia as well as Finland.
What about the genetic history of Finland then? Well the genetic history of Finland begins with the first human settlements that arrived after the last Ice Age. Around 10,000 BC, as the glaciers receded, small groups of hunter-gatherers migrated into the region from the south and east. The first pottery appeared with the Comb Ceramic culture however, which existed from around 4200 - 2000 BC.

Scottish lass living in Scotland here. Sir Niall Campbell is my 18th great grandfather. He was Robert The Bruce’s wingman. I did the paper trail from my father to his great grand father Donald Campbell of Mull then father of father of father until 1091 finishing with Archibald laird of lochow and wife Eva O’Duibhne. They were all Lairds of Loch Awe Scammadale and Dunstaffnage. I did actually go further back from there taking me to Dunbartonshire castle where the lineage gets pretty jaw dropping albeit a wee bit fantastical. I’ve been assured that even as early as the dark ages the recordings of this particular paternal heritage is quite well documented due to the nobility. Sorry for the extra long comment. Hopefully I haven’t bored anyone as I know these types of claims seem ludicrous. I would feel that way too if I hadn’t had it verified numerous times. Great video btw 🌿

I'm a Texas, Caldwell. I've been told I'm in the Campbell clan. I've tracked my 3rd great grand dad Allan Caldwell to Bieth, Scotland. My 3rd great grand mother from Jean Graig, from Kilbirnie. These are the people that moved to the states as far as I know. My mother took the dna test, my father didn't. I know Caldwell was a clan, but maybe as being very south, sided with the English. Any tips you have are welcome.

Isn't matrilineal/mitochondrial DNA much more stable and reliable than paternal? I know little about the clans, I only know one line of our family stretches back to Malcolm Canmore & his wife Margaret, whose tiny chapel adorns Edinburgh Castle. The clans were a later "invention" I think?? In any event, I'd like to learn more, as I had the honor of spending some time in Scotland in 2016 and felt a deep and instant love for the place. Thanks for your efforts!

Those language maps are always a bit misleading, showing mixed Finnish and Swedish areas as exclusively Swedish. The city of Vaasa is shown as Swedish-speaking, for example, but it's slightly majority Finnish (60:40). It just looks odd having those blobs of white at the coastal areas when it's not the reality.

You should listen back to your voice over of this and just take note of your repetitive intonation, it makes it sound like you recorded every couple of sentences separately and pieced them together. Do some loosening up before you start including facial exercises, jump about and tire yourself out a bit then sit down on a stool and imagine your talking to your best friend. The information is great but it's a bit tiring to listen to. The intonation sounds like your shouting across the room. I think it's because your chest is really tense and you sound like you're having to take a breath for every sentence. Do some breathing exercises. Put your hands, tips of fingers together on your lower diaphragm and just measure how much your using all your lungs. I think you'll find you're just using your shoulders to breath. Look up some singing exercises for breathing and look at the window method of breathing on the NHS website. There's load of examples of this, it doesn't have to be the window method but there's a reason you sound out of breath.

Interesting ❤ Fun story from my places. Some people tried to make a research about my small nation (ingrian finns). Unfortunately, this research is not done still, because war started. But from 10 ingrian men (including my father) - everyone was finn, exept 1 man with surname Ruotsi 😂 He is swedish ingrian, as now we know. Culturally, of course, he was pure ingrian finn with all our traditions and habbits. But this surname is so accurate. Ruotsi = Sweden 🤣 Unfortunately, we don't know the details of the research. I still don't know father's haplogroup (and father died the same year). Pity!
