In this video we will check out Urbana, an apartment building in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. This is the first apartment I viewed with a rating of less than 4.0 out of 5. It has a google review score of 3.3 as of June 2023. Does it deserve this rating? Let's find out in this video.

Why I Left Amazon During a Recession - A Critical Look at Amazon Culture
มุมมอง 7Kปีที่แล้ว
I worked for Amazon in Seattle since 2021. Even with all the layoffs in the tech industry at Amazon, Meta, Google, and others, I decided I did not want to work for Amazon any more. In this video I explain why I left my Program Manager role at Amazon and I explain some of the reasons other Amazonians leave Amazon as well. This is a relatively informal video, so it's not necssarily broken down in...

My first comment is a bit premature. I would rather live in Seattle than anywhere in Texas or South of California. I don't tolerate extreme heat well due to health issues.

I really love both San Francisco and Seattle. But San Francisco is more my pace. San Francisco has more to do and the weather is more mild. I don't know if I could live in snow and rain all year.

You lived on 3rd!! Oh nah, you were asking for it. Joke aside, it's hard to escape crime in any major city. In DC, I saw 2 homeless men fight with hammers in the middle of the intersection. Fortunately, the local dice players ran and broke it up. It's just life and I don't really mind it

    - **Introduction and Background** - Chris, a former Amazon program manager, shares his experience of working at Amazon for two years. - Despite surviving rounds of layoffs and having job security, he chose to leave and doesn't regret his decision. - He emphasizes that while he enjoyed working with his team, various challenges led to his departure. - **High Employee Turnover** - Within two years, Chris had four different managers and saw almost all his original team leave. - This high turnover created a lack of mentorship and continuity in projects, making it difficult for accomplishments to be recognized. - While Amazon’s culture accelerates expertise, it also means responsibilities shift frequently when employees leave. - **Workload and Stress** - Chris often worked 10-12 hour days early in the week and 8-10 hours later, feeling perpetually behind on work. - Weekly reporting took a significant portion of his time and added stress due to the high expectations for detailed, data-driven updates. - Immediate and high-priority requests from senior management further delayed his project work. - Many employees worked late nights and weekends to meet demands, leading to unsustainable work-life balance. - **Reporting and Metrics Overload** - Weekly reports consumed over 50% of Chris’s time but added little value, often being overlooked or requiring redundant updates. - Despite reducing his workload with managerial support, it would soon increase again, making it difficult to maintain balance. - Even on lighter days, the pressure to report and uphold high standards created ongoing stress. - **Job Mismatch and Lack of Passion** - Chris’s background in engineering led him to hope for a tech-focused role, but he was placed in Amazon Fresh, which he did not find fulfilling. - The work he did was demanding but not aligned with his career interests, diminishing his motivation. - He attempted to move within Amazon, but layoffs and hiring freezes restricted internal mobility. - **Work-Life Balance and Culture** - The constant pressure and workload required him and many others to work weekends, eroding personal time. - The competitive culture at Amazon demands employees perform at the next level before promotion, resulting in doing higher-level work without immediate compensation. - Chris felt that the high stress was only justifiable if the work was personally meaningful, which it wasn’t for him. - **Conclusion and Takeaways** - While Amazon provides excellent experience akin to an accelerated MBA, the work environment is intense and better suited for those deeply passionate about their roles. - Chris valued his time at Amazon for the lessons learned but ultimately chose to prioritize his personal life and work on projects aligned with his interests. - He acknowledges that Amazon is a great place for those who enjoy their specific work but highlights that misalignment in job role and passion can lead to burnout.

I liked Seattle until the riots during Covid and the emergence of the "Chop Zone". Complete lawlessness and mayhem, government policies that favor criminals and de-funded police, and a police force that lost 700 officers. There are parts of the city that were so dangerous and out of control that even police, firetrucks and ambulances wouldn't go there, yet residents and businesses were expected to carry on and fend for themselves. Several years past Covid and Seattle still hasn't bounced back. Crime and open drug use is rampant. The tent cites make it hard to walk down sidewalks but at least the tents are more peaceful than people. Seattle and Portland seem to be the Riot capitals of the United States. Any excuse to riot. Even when riots start in other cities from situations happening in those cities, Seattle and Portand will riot too and continue to riot long after the initiating cities have stopped.

Hi Chris, thanks for all the information, if I may, I have another question, do we receive the same bonus if someone has been promoted from L3 to L4? And if they work at another site, do they also receive a bonus for relocating? These questions are very important for Amazonians who want to develop their careers within the company. Thank you for your attention.

I grew up in Stockton so SFO and the Bay were the places to go for concerts and festivals. Fishing and surfing are pretty good along the coast as some people hit the breaks at Ft. Point under the Golden Gate Bridge. The SF neighborhoods are plentiful and diverse...its a variety of landscapes. SFO seems to have a more variety of cultures and ethnicities. I currently live in Portland and miss NorCal a lot. ❤

Who told this guy to move to 3rd & Pike in 2021 at the height of the homeless crisis??!?😂😂😂. That’s literally the worst part of the city. That’s like someone moving to Chicago & deciding to set up shop in OBlock because it’s on an affordable side of town 😂. If anyone sees this video please please do your research before you move somewhere and don’t do what this kid did by blindly moving to an area in a new city. This is happening way too much these days smh. 🤦‍♂️
