I am longing to hear from you how you experience life in a more remote area from the city center, but yet so close to it!
Glad my videos are helpful! So far I like it. I still miss being able to walk downtown whenever, but it is also much more relaxing away from the city. Plus I can always travel downtown whenever I want. Although I still really love the city. Personally Chicago is my favorite city in the USA (I'm a bit biased) but I would rather live in Seattle than Chicago (mostly because Seattle has more natural beauty and no income tax).
Congrats on your new adventure. I agree, Seattle is indeed a beautiful city and Washington is a gorgeous state. I am looking forward to the cherry blooms this Spring and maybe a garden tour or two. I think you made the right choice after carefully considering the pros and cons of living downtown. I always enjoy your videos because of the beautiful views you show, plus you are very honest and sincere with your opinions. I still visit Seattle every October and will always love it, it's a beautiful, unique city, but I could never live downtown. Keep your videos coming Chris, they are excellent!
Chris, if you moved to 3rd Avenue in 2021, you were already out of your mind! 3rd Avenue in 2021 was already zombie apocalypse central, why would ANYONE move anywhere close to 3rd Avenue with these problems already dominating that area for a long time?! The best place to live in the area is on the eastside, in Bellevue, Redmond, Sammamish. All the benefits of the region, much less crime, good enough public transit, MUCH cheaper rents. And if you want a downtown experience, it's close enough to commute or drive there every once in a while.
I've been watching your apt tour videos since before I moved to the area, and now I have already lived here for a year.. wow time flies. Yes, I mainly agree with all your points. I feel like there are a lot of things here that nobody tells you and you just need to learn it through experience. Ex: 1) many quality of life issues are concentrated in certain areas, like 3rd Avenue. If you are living somewhere like Roosevelt, Wallingford, or even North Capitol Hill, it feels a lot nicer, the homeless population is a lot more.. subdued (and those are also walkable areas!). 2) Renting an apartment from a private landlord is often much cheaper... but they don't have any shiny websites and take some effort to find. 3) don't really have any good solution for the space issue. I guess just the trade off for living in a central area. Considering the Eastside is also unaffordable, I assumed you moved far north or south? Looking forward to your future videos! I went to tour a lot of apartments in Seattle recently since I'm looking for my next place, maybe I will start making those apt tour videos now that you are gone ;)

I'm still in the area (I still really love the area and enjoy visiting the city) but decided to leave because I felt I could still enjoy the city even if I lived in a suburb. Native Chicagoan here. I used to live in Pioneer Square also.... right on 1st and Cherry. I finally had enough after 9 years there and moved to the burbs too. I now live in a nice 15 minute city and a wine cave. Guess which burb! 🍷
I was homeless for a time in Seattle. What you may not realize is the vast majority of the homeless don't look homeless - hell, many of us worked min-wage bullshit jobs. I can remember standing on a street once near the library, and as I looked around, I recognized most of the people walking along were OTHER homeless people. They didn't look homeless though, and many were actually going to some job to serve their overlords. Most Seattleites have this notion that the homeless problem manifests as the "tent cities" or the "passed out drunk" on the corner of 3rd and Pine. No, my friend, the vast majority of homeless aren't recognizably homeless (at least that was the case when I left in 2017). So having seen the problem from both sides (and lived it), I can confidently say, "fuck those 6-figure spoiled fucks." All these NIMBY fucks want everything, BUT they don't want to pay anyone for it (or, you know, pay them a living wage). P.S. an irony of the whole situation is that many of the crazies and drunks you assume are homeless are, in fact, housed. Crazy, huh? They're just so drug-addled that they never actually stay in their government-issued apartment. It's a wild upside down place, Seattle. I think much of its issues stem from a relatively small middle and working class. All that said, I still miss the place, and I loved it even when I hadn't a bed to sleep on ❤
3:44 The point that you couldn't have made better was that our politicians have corralled the "homeless" into the city. Short trip north, south or west of Downtown there are thousands of legal campsites that are maintained with our tax money but our criminal officials create this homeless crisis in order to continue to increase taxes that do not get used to fight homelessness. And the reason the area around the sphere is so sanitized is that Amazon employs one of the largest private police forces in America. There were a few news stories about it when they first opened. One of the aspects of the Seattle area that doesn't get advertised is how many pocket "towns" around the outskirts of the city that are diverse and safe. I live just south of SODO and you can call city hall speak directly to a council member, city attorney or even the chief of police. You could never do that in Seattle. Plus my mortgage is half what you paid to rent an apartment downtown. Great video!!

I've lived in Bellevue my whole life, which has also changed alot. 25,000 new Amazon Workers moving here in the next 5 years. I've never seen changes like this. When I was a kid, the only neighborhood that had any Homeless people was Pioneer Square. Now you see more Van's & RV's parked everywhere like everyday is Burning Man.
LOL Pioneer Square is a wild, wild place. I think it's always been rough-and-tumble - wasn't it the inspiration and origin for the term "Skid Row," with the word "skid" meaning the place where loggers skid the logs down to shore 🤔

It kinda depends on where you work and if you're remote, but I moved to Sammamish, but I also think Edmonds, Mill Creek, and Bellevue (a bit more expensive) are nice areas with relatively easy access to the city.
Aside from working at Amazon sort center in Seatac, I worked as an overnight hotel audit position. I worked at the Crowne plaza which is at the exit of 65 & Seneca. Homeless people would come into our property & steal snacks and drinks from our gift shop constantly. One homeless person came up to me with a bleeding hand. On another shift one was yelling racial profile to our cruise guests Sat morning very loudly. One would even be naked and poop in our main lobby. If they asks, I always tell them to avoid 3rd avenue also. That's why Starbucks& Piroshky Piroshky are no longer there. I always call police whenever we get disturbances. They even mentioned themselves that city council is too blame. I live on Kent. Less quiet but getting expensive too. Why I prefer remote working soon cause I'm an introvert and I hate seeing the crisis. Btw, I prefer Bellevue but expensive there also. Ty for the video.
Seattle is great, but the homeless situation is a depressing one. We’re not doing them any favors by our current policy. And yes! I’m introverted too and much prefer remote work. A little sad to see many companies make people go back to work but at least hybrid is still an option
Lol nice! I see that you lived in Dimension. It is a great apartment with great view of space needle and puget sound, but I agree that surrounding area towards Downtown makes me little bit unnerving and unsettling. I go outside and walk around and I'm almost guaranteed to run into/see someone crazy

You don’t want to live downtown. It is super expensive and there is a lot of open drug use, mentally ill people, and vandalism there. You can expect to find yourself in unsafe areas like 3rd Avenue and along transit corridors.
I know a guy who lived in the area told me that Pioneer Square was once the best place to hang out on weekends. It's sounds wounderful. It's my favorite part of the city (architecturally), but I almost never walk around cause too many homeless. That and my favorite restaurant (London Plane) closed down due to cost and employees getting harassed by homeless.
I have been here for almost 14 years. I loved Seattle up until 2015 and the novelty of romancing the 1970s started to win. Kshama Sawant screwed up the whole city of Seattle and really wrecked the state of Washington. My family cannot stand Sawant. I am leaving soon too. I knew this city was gonna drain by 2015.

Sammamish! It's a little out of the way, but still has easy access to the city and is closer to the mountains. Plus it's still close enough to Seatac to make getting to the airport easy
Hahaha… we don’t talk about that. I actually switched roles to a completely remote role where I can still go to the office (the office is in SLU) but when I do drive it can range from 25 minutes to 1 hour. Really depends on if there was an accident or not
Hey Chris have you lived or spent time in Bellevue? It's just across Lake Washington and well these two cities seem quite similar to each other except Bellevue is more like a suburb. I know some people that work at Amazon their job got moved to Bellevue from Seattle and they seem to really enjoy Bellevue.
I went to NYC for a month then 2 weeks at Seattle. I agree with the homelessness/crime.... it's very sad! Had to make sure I was home by 5 pm especially since I had to take the bus to Beacon Hill. But overall I really liked Seattle!

Still a part of Amazon, but looking for new roles outside the company. Personally, working at Amazon is a lot of work. You work 8+ hour days on most teams and I have friends who work similar roles with much less work load. I can make a full video on it (hoping to do so once I can leave Amazon haha).
The Seattle region & Washington State have systematically killed the goose that lays the golden eggs. They crow about not having an income tax, yet tax everything else to death. Crime is completely off-the-hinges, open drug usage, nowhere near enough cops (if you get raped, hey sorry, no detectives... not joking). Luckily cashed out of Redmond in very late 2020, landed in the Carolinas. Best move- economic outlook is worlds better, better school district, a lot less crime, traffic is not nearly as awful, politics much more balanced. I don't see the area or state doing anything but continuing its downward spiral.

Still a part of Amazon, but looking for new roles outside the company. Personally, working at Amazon is a lot of work. You work 8+ hour days on most teams and I have friends who work similar roles with much less work load. I can make a full video on it (hoping to do so once I can leave Amazon haha).

The quality of life per dollar equation just doesn't work for Seattle anymore for anyone not a millionaire.
Yeah, it's hard to justify many of the costs. I keep thinking it would have been nice to have moved here 10 years ago when prices were more manageable
The Seattle region & Washington State have systematically killed the goose that lays the golden eggs. They crow about not having an income tax, yet tax everything else to death. Crime is completely off-the-hinges, open drug usage, nowhere near enough cops (if you get raped, hey sorry, no detectives... not joking). Luckily cashed out of Redmond in very late 2020, landed in the Carolinas. Best move- economic outlook is worlds better, better school district, a lot less crime, traffic is not nearly as awful, politics much more balanced.

I’m content with my great memories of living on Queen Anne years ago but I wouldn’t live in Seattle again for all three of your points. So sad what it’s become.
Hopefully with the city counsel changing we can get better folks in (fingers crossed)

Bro if you left because of the "crime" that you described...you might want to avoid ANYWHERE in the South lmao. Seattle is probably one of the only big cities I've ever been in where I felt safe walking pretty much anywhere.

Who told this guy to move to 3rd & Pike in 2021 at the height of the homeless crisis??!?😂😂😂. That’s literally the worst part of the city. That’s like someone moving to Chicago & deciding to set up shop in OBlock because it’s on an affordable side of town 😂. If anyone sees this video please please do your research before you move somewhere and don’t do what this kid did by blindly moving to an area in a new city. This is happening way too much these days smh. 🤦♂️

I was naive and didn’t know any better haha. Didn’t review any Seattle Reddit page and there weren’t many moving to Seattle videos for me to reference back then. I did check google, but the sources I read didn’t give many warnings about 3rd ave. Kinda had to learn it from experience lol
