Tbh this is probably the biggest rally i have attended so i was quite happy with it. I agree with some of the old used kit being way overpriced especially if it comes without any warranty. I guess times are changing.

@@gtretroworld Having lived in London until 2006 I was always used to having several big rallies nearby, Pickett's lock was a sports centre and the rally there occupied 3 large halls, Brighton racecourse rally was a day out, kempton park and sandown were across town at racecourses, bletchley park,stockwood park a bit further,elvaston castle, donnington,Longleat, NEC ,Leicester, all great rallies but only stockwood park in Luton still going which is outdoor and weather dependent , I even used to go to Llandudno in autumn on my 100cc motorbike and stay the night and ride back next day. Lots of things now for sale on eBay but you run the risk as a seller of people swapping parts or saying an item was not as described, more protection as a buyer which seems wrong. Incidentally eBay have as of 1st October removed fees for sellers so perhaps there will be more interesting things for sale soon, I don't mind giving 10% selling at a bring and buy knowing it goes to a radio club but not to a multimillion pound company.

@@gtretroworld we went up on the Saturday. There seemed to be more people and stock on the Friday. It's was a good day, but tiring. The weather was warm and sunny. I wasn't happy that Moonraker had no stock and I voiced my concerns with Justin on the stand. Although it was nice to get some freebies. David M0DUU

@@David-km8in Yeah the free Maps were pretty cool, i also was surprised Moonraker didn’t take any stock but they did mention last week they didn’t plan on taking anything.

@@gtretroworld Moonraker haven't taken any stock for two years now. I was told that they can't afford to bring anything and if they did, they wouldn't have any stock at the shop to sell. They just have a presence at rallies now. Also Navada and Waters and Stanton are affiliated with Moonraker. And all there orders are fulfilled by Moonraker.

@@David-km8in I noticed a while back W&S were using Moonraker’s exact web interface be it different coloured buttons, that explains that then.

@@2m0rot Honestly it was well worth a visit, the flea market was probably a slight disappointment but i guess that was down to the previous days weather putting people off.

You would’ve absolutely loved it Al, tbh i only spent a few quid so it doesn’t have to cost the earth. Just mooching about was fun.

I think there was more people there on the Saturday than the Friday when I went and I was there all day

@@gtretroworld 1/4 wave White stick drilled a hole in the middle of my metro roof. Christ that used to get out well sitting on the hill over looking folkestone. Using a Cobra 148gtl. I worked the world with that setup. It might be a marine about 9 foot long

You will find a huge amount of Hams choose to wide band their radios. I can imagine 99% aren’t military at all. Obviously for freebanders which is probably the main reason it is definitely not outdated and probably what keeps these companies sales going. Tbh I rarely purchase a radio that has been modified unless i know where it’s been.

I personally wouldn’t use that method but i guess if it makes a contact it will do the job.

@@gtretroworld Not what I use but cant see a problem with them. If you widen the innertube it will also cover the joint and stop rain/ moisture etc getting into the pole

Out of curiosity did you replace the speaker and drill the cabinet?

@@gtretroworld tap in to the main output black and red inside the radio lead comes out side vents jack in line connect the speaker the main one cuts out the only thing this radio lacks a external output the one in the back has you know is for aess

Yeah no problem, Boom is 2680mm, between the reflector and driven element is 1440mm and driven to director is 1240mm. Hope this helps.

Thanks…I have done a few of these and have never had an issue. Make sure you hold both DSP/FINE down then power it up and not all at once.

@@gtretroworld Thanks for the info. I must have been having a senior moment, I tried holding the DSP/FINE before the power and then keeping them held down a bit longer. That did the trick! All working as the video now. Cheers!

@@andysupermachine Excellent, don’t worry we all have those senior moments, as long as you get there in the end is all that matters.

My next radio will probably be a FT891 for Mobile and Portable, obviously the FT710 is a great rig and a totally nicer radio to operate but it is just a bit big for mobile and definitely no good for karting off the beaten track on your back. I suppose it comes down to your needs.

It is a very straight forward modification, i think the manufacturers make these mods simple these days on purpose just to get the sales. Thanks

I wasn’t that keen on the idea at first Gordon and only initially bought it because of the size and maybe the occasional stand but it’s surprising how often it gets used in the air, great for tinkering.
