Hi Neil.. see that crappy little super lance about three feet long last year before my mate in Vermont put up his A400 Starduster he was using a super lance i spoke to him on it around half a dozen times a five thousand km contact he also got contacts into europe.. it shocked me as i wouldn't have thought it would have got over the garden fence 😂😂 I use the Sadelta echo master plus classic with the twin meters on my Stryker 955 they are a pair made in heaven.. ive never had a bad report on SSB and always complimented. they are probably one of the best base mics ever made they bust the needles right over with the audio and push the power on a radio better than any other mic ive used and ive got a good three dozen mics knocking about.. These sort of videos are awesome and never boring so get that out of your head.. they are a very nostalgic look back and much appreciated and enjoyable to watch.. top marks pal.
Cheers Glenn…I suppose with decent propagation and the 500w maximum lashed through it you’d have problem at all but for local contacts they were worse than useless.😂 Yeah those Sadelta base mics always sounded great, proper full bodied rich audio.
@@gtretroworld I guess you are right.. like you said 500 watts would melt that thing into oblivion.. btw he was running 25 watts into his lance on a President McKinley.. I suppose though mother nature had a grip on his signal and did all the work, but when you think about it look at all the mobile stations running around the city using antennas around the same size on the car roof.. power means nothing and again mother nature takes a hold. When I was testing to a station last year in upstate New York we was constantly testing low power and many a day we would make contacts both using quarter wave antennas and less than two watts with 5-9 plus signals from time to time.. it shows what is possible.. btw those super lance things are still junk 😂
@@DeltaXray444 Low power contacts are great fun especially on portable kit but i remember those things on people’s roofs, useless for local. It was only a few years ago i gave my brother one that i had for years, god knows how i ended up with it.😂..I wonder if he still has it.
@@gtretroworld yeah that's the one I have too but mine came from south shields. I have a old truck king catalogue too. As well as a later Nevada one. Knights price lists and news and special buys were good to read too.
Great video , I have a few bits in there, including the JRC (Japan Radio Company) HF receiver , mega high end back then🙂
Cheers Dave, It felt like everything back then other than CB Radio was an absolute small fortune.

Around here we used to have the midland, jesan, skiptech catalogue and used to talk about it on the rig with fellow enthusiast's
I have a few of those Dave, actually one of them was from Super Tech at the Metro centre…I’ll dig it out sometime.
