Bettas - a Blast from the Past
This video is a look back into some of the B. splendens I've bred in the fish room in recent years. (Taken using a camera pone unfortunately!). I've almost always had Bettas in my fish rooms for the past 50 years. And, since the 1970's have raised them in decent numbers (for a hobbyst). Unfortunately, the market for selling fish in recent years has dramatically shrunk and I was ending up keeping the fry / youngsters for extended periods of time! Consequently, it has been about 4 years since I've spawned them in the fish room. I must admit however, I've been tempted many time to puchase a pair or two to spawn them again. Probably my favourite fish...

Ghost Blushing Angels

I’ve been breeding Angel fish for 50 years and never had problems like I have with this strain! The fish were sold as Green Paraiba Angels and were very small when I purchased them. Artificially hatching and raising Angel eggs

Additional information: To successfully breed Angel fish they need soft water for the eggs to hatch. My home tap water parameters are pH 7.8, GH 4 and KH 2. If I attempt to hatch Angel eggs in my tap water I get a zero hatch rate. For breeding pairs I tend to spawn them in a mix of 50:50 RO and HMA water. This results in about a 50% hatch rate. Far greater hatch rates are obtainable in water wi...

@PaulsFishroom Hi, thanks for sharing this video. Is there a different process/ method to breed Red shoulder Manacapuru or would it be similar to this one?

@@karank2287 you can use the same method and water parameters. Try to aim for a KH 0 get a maximum hatch rate. This is a link to a video that I uploaded a few years ago: th-cam.com/video/30JVK9v8jkw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=JzcO5rWHOuJVPkwQ

@@skandaabeyesekere4221 the fish were not separated nor specially fed for this video but I often will do this for 10 days or so. You could try a suspended net a jarva fern or maybe put some glass marbles on the tank base. Good luck.

Great video sir, i love this fish but ever since the transgenic version has taken over the market you can rarely see these in the pet stores. It look so beautiful with a dark background.

Hi Paul many shops in the early 2000s sold these as Altums and then later as False Altums in the Uk , are these the young from the pair off the older video you did? many thanks

@@JimBodkin no they are from the same pair shown in the older video. I have some 9 month old young from another pair that are now approaching maturity. Many years ago friends of my travelled to Holland and brought back Nanay Angels that were selling under the name of Peruvian Altums…
