    Thank you for great videos,
    I just start breeding Neon tetra, but wen they start free swiming they died, can you please tell me if is good idea to use a new clean sponge filter or used bio charged sponge filter or what can I do?

      Most people lose newly free swimming fry either by bad water and / or bad food. On the first point, I always use a mature sponge filter in my spawning tanks however, the aerobic bacteria does less well in soft acts water so you still have to be careful regarding overloading the bio system with overfeeding. On the second point, you need to feed the fish with infusoria - feeding with the likes of powdered egg yolk never gives good results and often pollutes the water. Just my opinion based on personal experience. Best of luck with raising your neon fry 🤓👍

    Could you please tell a bit in upcoming videos about conditioning of the parent fish for spawning (which food) and wheter you use peat or any huminc acids to treat the water? Do you soemtimes add methyleneblue to avoid loss of the eggs or fry to fungal infections? Thank you :-)

    • @PaulsFishroom
      @PaulsFishroom  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes I’ll certainly consider this. Just for the record I don’t use any chemicals to protect the eggs from fungus. Generally, just ensuring the water is low in bacteria is enough to get an acceptable hatch rate. A good tip however is to use Catappa or Oak leaves if you’re experiencing problems, because of their antibacterial properties. I try not to use acids to reduce pH if I can avoid it but, as I’m based in the UK, it is now very difficult to buy peat (which also has antibacterial properties). I also use RO water which makes spawning soft water species much easier.

    wow, thats alot of spawning! How long did you leave the adults in for?

    • @PaulsFishroom
      @PaulsFishroom  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are not normally continuous spawners and they spawned on the third day after being put in the tank. If you think this is a large spawning it’s nothing compared to the size of the M costae spawning. (Video also on the channel)

      When I first cycled my 10 gal community, about 8 months ago I put three adults in the tank. I go to do a water change the other day. I found one new baby juvenile hiding in my plants! I was floored.👍😊

    What is the size of tank to grow all fish fry

    • @PaulsFishroom
      @PaulsFishroom  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just as with growing on any other fry: the bigger the spawning the more tanks and frequent water changes needed. You can see from the video that hundreds of fry were produced by spawning just one female. Therefore if you want to raise all the fry from one spawning you can appreciate that this will involve a lot of effort growing them on to a saleable size.

    What are infusoria i cant afford it or i guess i cant get it where i live can i feed the frys crushed flake food ?

    • @PaulsFishroom
      @PaulsFishroom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Have a quick search on TH-cam for “how to culture infusoria” as there are a number of videos on this topic I’m sure. And no culturing infusoria costs next to nothing and isn’t very expensive at all. Maybe I’ll put together a short video on how to culture it sometime in the future?

      Unfortunately you will not raise large numbers on crushed flake. Also don’t leave the parents in the tank when they have spawned. Eggs will hatch in 24 - 36 hours dependent upon temperature. If you watch the video the information is given during each stage of development. Good luck 👍

    How to identify male and female??

    • @PaulsFishroom
      @PaulsFishroom  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      When the fish are young this is v difficult. However, in mature fish the male is generally slimmer and the female is larger, fatter and deeper in the body. Colours do no help in identifying males from females. Look at the video thumbnail and you’ll see there is one female and two males. Hope this helps?
