Campervan Registration - DVLA prejudiced against home builders? Ombudsman ruling ignored by DVLA!
I’m just about to buy a van, I’ll be keeping the heater and water boiler in but removing everything else. God help me, wirings not my strong point
Good luck! Personally I really like wiring.
Hello dear, I hope you are well. I visited your TH-cam channe In The Shed. Your content is excellent. But your channel isn't growing because your content title and description aren't optimized for SEO and don't have enough ranking tags. This is why no content reaches the top of TH-cam. Love this series very interesting I might have to seek out a n old British bike By the sounds of it a whole set of be spanner’s as well 😂
Ian, you could have a go at marking the offset back plates for the filters
❤❤❤❤❤❤
What a bugger. I'm sure you will come up with a solution Ian.
hi Ian if its not one thing its another would it not be possible to turn the locking nut down a little therefore raising the tap up a bit and also removing some thread on the tap where the bango goes on in a fect it would shorten the tap a bit more, anyway I hope you sort it Ian, Adrian.
Might work, I don't need much space.
Could the inlet manifold be modified to change angle of carbs
Possibly, but not sure if they are at that angle for a reason.
That was my thought too. I'm sure I've seen triumph models like that, with the carbs angled out way more than yours. Best of luck, keep at it 👍
Great videos, thank you . Was going to inform dvla about my van which has been converted to a camper . But weighing it up after watching your videos. I won’t bother now . I will just inform my insurance instead. And carry on doing 70 mph if not faster ha ha . Keep up with the videos , they do help people like me . Thanks again.
We could rant about pattern parts (again) Ian, but it wouldn't get us anywhere! You are turning out a very nice bike, despite the setbacks. Might you be able to reprofile the fuel outlet with a bit of heat? It might just go without kinking. Best wishes, Dean.
I have been trying to locate some angled taps, saw some on a Triumph at an autojumble so I know they were available at some point.
hi Ian well one forward and two back, no wounder the brit bikes went under and all them fiddly little parts to make one part work, I bet the time and motion guys had a field day. but anyway your getting there and very nice it looks to. take care Ian kind regards Adrian.
A fiddly & frustrating experience!
Well done a fantastic job

Would you mind emailing me if possible the plan. Just bought myself one of these ex BT fleet, Ducatos and in the process of removing the internal racking. Thank you for the videos. Very much appreciated as very little on TH-cam about this 👍
image is available for download from imgur.com/gallery/bri-stor-wiring-bt-fiat-ducato-OKX81BC hope this helps. I also have videos on my channel of how I converted my ducato, might be useful.
@InTheShedUK Thank you so much for replying. I really appreciate it 👍
Ele complica muito. É bem mais simples.
I wonder if you will ever be satisfied with that junk. I’m afraid you’ll always sit and stare at that unsymmetrical poorly made shit and regret you didn’t do the right thing: return it and warn others not to do business with that back alley “firm”
Blimey Ian, I think I'd be wanting my money back. Well done for perseverance.
To be fair I did get some money refunded but probably not enough to cover the hassle.
If it's a 67 it should have the eye lash style badges, but either way the lettering should be painted black and the background white. I use Testers model paint to do mine.
Thanks, confirmed what I thought although the bike is a complete 'bitsa' anyway, 67 engine, 69 frame and 71 OIF forks/wheels. A bit like the Johnny Cash song One Piece at a Time!😀
I'm assuming that's one of those India tanks. Someome once told me if you order 2, you'll probably get one that's decent. They're very affordable, which is nice. I have an all chrome India tank on an oil in frame Triumph I bought. I'm a bit OCD so it annoys me that the gold pin stripe isn't correct coming off the back side of the tank badges. The badge should cover that, so the gold pin stripes starts at the bottom back corner of the badge. It's a small detail, not a huge deal, but it's not that hard to get it right. (Ive painted a couple tanks, one with a similar design.) You could try to buff out those ripples with some cutting compound and a buffer...if they're in the clear coat. Or wet sand with a very high grit paper then buff and shine afterwards, cause you'll take the shine off with the sand paper.
Yes definitely some more work required. Correct it's an Indian one.
Generally they don't come lacquered, first contact with petrol and the paint starts to peel 😢
hi Ian your not having much luck with these tanks, is the tank clear coated at all, if so you could hit it with 3,000 grit and then with some polishing paste and mop, but like you said you could end up making worse than ever, but is looking very nice, ps like my dad would say you can only see one side at a time, anyway Ian please take care kind regards Adrian.
I like your dad's philosophy.
Doesn't time fly, 30 years we parted ways. I😢.
Time to get another one!
These vids are such great reference points. Thanks for them.
Sounds fantastic Ian. Credit to you.
Thanks, just a bit more tweaking and it will be there
hi Ian sounds good regards Adrian.
Took a bit of persuasion!
Can you spot the moment when the headlight lens clamp nut falls out?
15:10 🤣
@@Andy-pe6tc well spotted
If you had an extra window on one side and better Grafix you might get it changed. I agree that Police use ANPR but what if it’s been stollen with fake plates on it. Your van just looks like a builders van from behind and the side as it may just be a crew cab van. I have a converted van and know a few people who have had theirs changed. You need to make it look more leisure camper than a builder van.
Crew cab vans don't have caravan style bubble windows they have flat bonded windows. Regardless of that, the point is what it looks like externally is not important, it's the 'use' that counts. The body type regulations (the law) doesn't even mention windows or graphics as a requirement, the DVLA have made their own rules up and are going against these regulations.
No way should the front pulley be hammered on. Should be a sliding fit.
They are just tight, motorbike whisperer had the same problem with his Newby pulley.
I would have put the front pulley on, then align the straight edge with clutch to dee how far the belt is out.
20:00
Thank you for making this series. I’m restoring my grandpas CB350 and all of this knowledge is very helpful!
It's a Greeves. Will a Mk36 engine turn up? I'm intrigued.
Agreed
Greeves
Almost there Ian. Well done sorting out those feral ferrules. Best wishes, Dean.
I sometimes think it would be easier to make my own cables!
I'll be curious to see how those carbs work. I always assumed the wassell and Amal jets were the same (as far as the sizes go). If a 17 wassell pilot is a 25 amal pilot, that would be weird. I tried to put a couple 19 wassell pilots in my amal 930s, be cause they were cheaper. They didn't work well. Maybe because it was a lot bigger than I thought it was.
I found the following info on thebonnevilleshop.com The #15 Jet is the equivalent of the old Amal #20 Pilot Jet size. The #17 Jet is the equivalent of the old Amal #25 Pilot Jet size. The #19 Jet is the equivalent of the old Amal #30 Pilot Jet size. The #21 Jet is the equivalent of the old Amal #35 Pilot Jet size. The #23 Jet is the equivalent of the old Amal #40 Pilot Jet size. They also state main jets are numbered the same for wassell and amal alike.
hi Ian looks good, I see in your other vid you put led bulbs in I put some in mine the tacho and the speedo and when I turned them on they started flickering like a Christmas tree, anyway Ian take care Adrian.
Maybe they were flashing LED's 🔆🔅🔆🔅
@@InTheShedUK don't know but I put the old ones back in
I want to change my old 6 springs clutch to 3 or 4 springs like yours, or maybe a triumph’s, what part that i need?
How thick is the angle iron?
about 2mm
Very good Ian. When I fit things upside down, it usually involves partially cured adhesive or sealant, so that was a win! Best wishes, Dean.
If in doubt, don't use glue!
I got it into program mode and put p6610 and it stays flashing where do you think I should go from there?
You have to go through the complete setup even if just changing one parameter, see instruction list towards the end of the video
How did you press out the swing arm bushes from the swingarm? You show pressing new ones in the frame reassembly part 14. There appear to be 2 bushes opposing each other per side.
@@ProjectMat66 struggling to remember but I probably used a medium sized pin punch
@@InTheShedUK Thank you. That is what I eventually did. Alternating one side to the other for each one. They came out much easier than I anticipated.
Fantastic. Real skill and also an art I wish I could do this, my father was good but unfortunately it skipped a generation with me.
My father is a retired motor mechanic and football fanatic. I got the mechanical side but I can't stand football!
Years ago I rode a mates Bonnie with rubber mounted bars, very odd feeling
Does feel strange to start with.
I like the older style rear lamp/number plates better too. I'm not sure I'd like riding with the rubber mounted bars, but I've never tried one so who knows? The springy nuts were called speed nuts in my industry, not sure about elsewhere. Good progress Ian. Best wishes, Dean.
Reading the forums the rubber mounted bars do seem to have a 'marmite' effect on people!
Does this mean the 12v electric system won't work without the ignition on continually. I was looking to buy one and use the electric system for a fishing campervan.
System should work without ignition on but there is a 5 hour timeout/low battery voltage relay that will turn the system off. I just removed the complete system and rewired it to my needs, there are a couple of videos on electrics in my Fiat Ducato playlist.
Does the cut off kick in after 5hrs if the battery voltage remains stable. As I would be installing a solar panel to keep the battery charged when parked up.
@@waynelocking2799 It will still time out after 5 hours, you will need to remove it and associated relay from the circuit (direct connection) or fit a manually operated switch to the relay in place of the timer. Easy job for an auto-electrician if your not sure.
It happens with reengineered parts from the UK. Buy some taps and dies, and take it on the chin
The Indian manufacturers that just need to finish things properly. Many years ago I was a fettler/finisher. I would have got the sack for letting something like that go!
I fully agree. Those were the day when people took pride in there work. True craftsmen
Very neat Ian. I do enjoy a bit of wiring.
Terrific job , looking very neat and tidy and getting closer to completion. 👍
Are the DVLA being Vanist ? Have you told them about the habitation specs of your van conversion ? It would be interesting to see a photo of your van to see if it does look the part
Have a look at my Campervan Van Tour video in the playlist
Hi did you have an alpha bearing or a Hepolite brand ? . Hope your bike has gone well , I bought a Bsa b33 earlier in the year , but I've had to work my way through a few issues . Cheers
It was a while ago now but I'm fairly sure it was Hepolite.
