hi Ian them rubbers are not easy a good way is to use the clutch hub centre with the splines held in the vice and a bar welded to a plain plate on the hub and pull the hub round and then nock the splined part out the build the hub with the rollers and then press then together. anyway all sorted and without the swearing, anyway please take kind regards Adrian.
Did you have to use the press to seat the hub in the basket that final bit? I don't have a press, I'm wondering if torquing down the nut would have taken up that last bit of play you were hammering down, or is it crucial to get it fully seated before putting it on the bike? I noticed you replaced a lot of the clutch hub parts. How much more would it have cost you to buy the pr-made hub on line? I think they're under 200 bucks here in the states. I need to replace the rubbers in mine and I'm thinking I'll probably just replace the entire hub and save myself some trouble. Not sure I have the proper tools to get those rubbers out and replaced. I'll make my decision after I inspect the hub off the bike.
Yes I did use the press, I am building from bits of various bikes and new parts, you may not need a press if your clutch is all original. You could tighten on the bike if the hub is almost there. Would have cost about £70 more for a complete hub so it did work out better for me to just replace the worn parts. Hope it all goes well.
All very tight but mission accomplished. Should be a smooth runner Ian.
Best wishes, Dean.
Just a bit tighter than a Bantam clutch! 😉
@@InTheShedUK Bantams have a clutch? More like a cotton reel!
