Cabin River Outdoors
Canada
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 28 ธ.ค. 2022
In 2021, (after years of searching) I was able to purchase a 41 acre/16.5 hectare property deep in the mountains of western Canada at a bargain price. It felt like winning a lottery! One of the only private properties in this gigantic region.
Far away from just about any form of civilization and surrounded by an endless wilderness of valleys, rivers, lakes and large trees, I knew I had found a rare gem of private land.
With no roads, no neighbors and very little building restrictions (and not to mention a river and creek that runs through it all !), I couldn't be happier with this freedom in the wilderness.
I have decided to record my experiences and create videos to share with you all on here.
Follow my journey while I try and carve something out of this raw and sometimes unforgiving wilderness.
Starting from the ground up, I have my work cut out for me.

Homestead in the Mountains. Wooden Off Grid Cabin Build.
Video 41 is here! General work continues at the remote British Columbia property. Plenty of action on the trail. It's a good workout getting materials all the way to the river, but I would much rather build with local trees. Sawmill on the way for January, but part of me also wants to build with logs the old time way. As time moves on it will be exciting to build many different ways.
More cabin building. The roof sheathing and framing for roof and walls will be completed for the wing wall addition.
It sure looks beautiful here through the lense in winter. Glad you could make it.

Wooden Off Grid Cabin Build. Alone Again at Remote Mountain Homestead Property

The Eagle has landed. This video demonstrates building in changing weather conditions. Being away from the homestead and the challenges associated with traveling long distances to get anywhere. Short dark days make for excellent sleeps next to the all important wood stove. Working with someone versus working alone. Winter Wonderland Cabin Building (EP 39)
มุมมอง 79K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
Episode 39 is here. The Latvian Eagle and I have been trudging through the snow and enjoying the winter time atmosphere. Rain moves in mid way through the week, but it's not enough to dampen our spirits. More building, more fun and adventure. Some trail drudgery and cabin time evenings beside the wood stove. Better than a 5 star hotel. This has been a fun week. Maybe Nibbles the weasel makes an...

Carpentry, River travel and general off grid work before winter. You all know this is the most remote of the off grid channels. I don't have to fake anything out here or try to make it seem more remote than I already am. The Latvian Eagle has landed! My friend from days gone by has decided to make a vacation trip back to Canada. As an experienced woodsman, outdoors person, mechanic, carpenter a...

Welcome to Ep 33. I must be turning a corner soon. I sure hope so. I just need to get everything up to the property before snow sets in. if only a person had more time in the day to get a thing done. I'm sure the trappers had it so very difficult in a way which we will never know. Merry Christmas & sunny day in the North. Good times
Your a tough working guy, enjoy watching
Merry Christmas Shawn 🎅 All the best in 2025
If some saquatch bwlivers have heard this it the woods, ow'boy then we have a sighting😄
Lots of sightings in the region he's living, plausible
Working in that weather sucks! She’s looking good! Subscribed for more content
You are so lucky to have such great river access so close to your place. Great video🇨🇦
First of all build a sauna and have a big water boiler for hot water, traditional Finnish sauna is the key to get remote cabin comfortable. I have one cabin without electricity, no water pipes( just river water thru the property) wood heating.
Working out side in winter in Alaska icy material ❤😅
You are doing it
Man, I was getting nervous that the wall would tip over the other way in the end. Nice job figuring it out!
It’s not complaining it’s the Canadian humor and the way we focus.
Shawn. Your videos are awesome. Ignore the complaints. To smile or not to smile. Lol just keep grinning 😂 every now and then. I can't get enough of your videos. 83 year old
Hey dude, you’re a moose! Let some of those complainers about your realness try this. They would be curled up in the fetal position. Love your videos, always wanting the next installment to come sooner. Soldier on!
Great video
ok, i have to know... the baby moose that was getting swept down stream, did it make it or not?
Yes, it was in one of the early videos :}
Nice work and happy holidays! Definitely a tough task to do roofing by yourself. Your abilities to complete tasks without a second set of hands pushes your abilities to out think the task. Good luck and stay warm.
Hi Shawn! Merry Christmas to You and all the best in the New Year! Your channel is something extraordinary as it is the most authentic, inspiring to anybody, both young and old ! Your struggle and will to achieve your dream is amazing. Hope you stay safe, warm and healthy despite your challenging endeavours. And just ignore the negative comments! The number of people who prescribe on your channel has risen with at least two hundred this week! That says something! Many greetings from Sweden
Hello Shawn, I'm watching from New Zealand and I love your videos. They are based in reality and not made to look like a fairytale like many channels do. I love the RAW & UNCUT version of life Cabin building as you show it. It's very refreshing. I would have the Authentic Reality any day instead of BS. Im a new subscriber now and look forward to watching you build into the future.
Shawn , your non planning of your build is frightening, I'm binge watching all your videos , breaking the windows , loosing your things , damaging your equipment buying unless cheap tools , you need to slow down think and plan your day , write down a shopping list of food and materials , I'd say you have 100,000 ppl watching so you have your viewers .. do a weekly video for an hour , other vloggers do a weekly video
I watch a lot off the grid video. this is the most genuine . so keep on it :)
One further comment and question. Why oh why dont you cut a bunch of six foot long logs from the surrounding beaver pond and fill that ......ing slough with logs. Done and done. Bring some sand and river gravel to finish it off.
Dude you're fucking awesome, best offgrid channel I've ran across. Love how realistic and genuine everything is.
With views like this we need that sweet, sweet 4K resolution.
Been following along since the beginning and never once thought you to be negative! You have overcome so many things over the years, let the haters hate...I'm sure it sucks to read but keep your head high, you're living most of our dreams and doing a damn fine job of it Shawn!!!
Enjoy your videos. Really interesting. You’ve got a great attitude. Thanks for sharing. Hoping you have a downriver cache of dry clothes, spare footwear, fire kit and truck key on the non-cabin side of the river in case you roll the canoe. Hope for the best, prep for the worst strategy.
Have Xavier come to your property to boost your TH-cam videos.
check the muffler on your weed whackerif there is a metal screen in it take it out it sounds clogged upIf not look at the carburetor there are two screws on its side/ see if the adjustor screws have those plastic protectors on them to keep people from adjusting them!!????? Now listen tighten the one marked H ( imagine a clock face 60 minutes makes one whole rotation) turn it to the right or clockwise 5 minutes see fit cuts better then go 5 mins more if it does not.... it should speed upif it goes way better do not go any farther now go to the left screw marked L and back it out 5 minutes ( also you will have to idle up the engine some clockwise .).. do not go crazy and keep turning screws it will burn up If it has those plastic guards to keep people from adjusting them go as far as you can on the adjustments I told you and if that does not help take the plastic guards off just pull them off with needle nose pliers!!!!
Very good points made Shawn, if we're here watching it's for all of it not just the 3ply
Another great video,. When we first moved to dome there was no power in the church so we had to do a lot of chainsaw carpentry. Heheeh but it works. 🇨🇦❄️
You are a skilled carpenter my friend !
2 chainsaws ??? I can't use but one at a time??? 100 trees ??? Hell I can only cut one at a time ???? Maybe you ought to focus on one tree at a time ???? and never lay your weed eater anywhere you would not sit and take a nap!!!
Merry Christmas Shawn. Looking forward to seeing you again in the New Year! 🎄🎉
Shawn, my wife and I are in our late 80's and we like watching your videos. We are drawn to you because of your genuine positive attitude in some adverse situations. You are a very genuine person which is refreshing in this day and age! May the Lord bless you in your adventures.
Awesome new intro Shawn! lol
That’s my biggest problem with this social media society. People see someone’s Facebook or whatever and it’s just the highlight reel of their lives and then they compare it to their own and it will NEVER live up to a highlight reel. It’s pretty much destroying society and nobody cares. 🤷🏻♂️
Great video Shawn. Don’t beat yourself up to badly about the tree. It will come. When we lived in Penny…we did the river crossing g for fifteen years. We brought quads, tractors etc across the river. We recently bought 70 acres down river from you and very excited to move there. Thankfully at our age there is a shop and small house already, anyways great video, 🇨🇦❄️
Sounds like a pier might be a good idea for the future
Merry Christmas!
I finally found you. Our neighbour Bill finally helped me find you. 🇨🇦❄️
Running those clean 1/4" full length rips with a battery circular saw is super impressive
Nail strips of wood on that tree trunk you use as a bridge , easier to get over
Spray loads of weedkiller on the trail
75% of Shawn's problems are self inflicted .. Shawn's problems are mostly his own doing ... mistake after mistake, if he took 5 minutes to stop and think about what's he's doing and plan out properly he'd be months further on with a proper settlement
Not everyone is a bushman. I was taught we learn by our mistakes. MERRY XMAS SHAWN
Yup
