I have to add these words by Robert Browning in Home Thoughts from Abroad poem: "That's the wise thrush; he sings each song twice over, Lest you should think he never could recapture The first fine careless rapture!" Dad quoted me this when I was small, so this is the first bird I was able to ID from sound alone.

I'd just recently moved from Birmingham to Cambridge, and one morning, out on a stroll, I heard what I thought was a peculiar wood pigeon call. Spent a good while trying to learn about bird calls, a subject I'm not too familiar with, and found this video, excellent stuff! Maybe Collared Dove's weren't very common where I lived before, but I can now certainly say that there's a bunch in the park near my house, and here I thought the pigeons in Cambridge might just be musically shy! Turns out I was listening to a different bird entirely! Anyway, love the explanation of the difference in rhythm, thanks so much for the video, really helpful stuff!

The reason why wood pigeons they dont finish their song can happen, firstly is if they are interupted and the second one where they just stop purposely

Very interesting way using those words to make the phrase of the Blue Tit. it is very accurate. A way I heard which I have found very helpful is that it sounds similar to an old engine struggling to start. Might not help the younger generation;-)

I always say that wood pigeons sound similar to collared doves except they're smokers lol! They have this raucous sound while collared doves have a purer tone if that makes sense.

My Mother and I have been really enjoying learning all the birdsongs with your helpful videos. As soon as we'd watched your latest video, the Bluetit song, we looked for more but were distraught to see that was your last one. Would you consider making any more? It would be much appreciated, as now we are a little lost on what song to learn next and how to remember it 😆

Hi Lucy, Just watched your video on the chiffchaff. I have recently been hearing a bird which doesn't sound like the traditional chiffchaff sound, but it is! It's a sort of repetitive whistle. You can hear it on a TH-cam video called 'Chiffchaff Song and Contact Call'. It's been driving me nuts for the last few weeks, not knowing what it was! Thanks to the poster of that video as well as yourself.
