I'm japanese. I think you'd better to sign up for ETC, because it's very convenient. If you have ETC card, you don't need to stop at toll gate long time. In addition, when you use ETC, the toll cheaper than when you don't use it. （Maybe I mistake grammar, spelling, etc.）

Just came back from Japan. Driving on the expressway is not as challenging as driving in cities. Roads in the city can be a tad confusing at times especially if you are not used to driving on the left side. The tolls is also a bit of a pain. Have ample amounts of yen or make certain to get an etc card system in your car. I managed to get into an etc only lane and passed through w/o paying and another time simply stopped and waited for an attendant. I was charged by the rental company for the toll I passed through w/o paying. It really is easier to get an etc reader in your car if you can.

If I want to pay cash and fill in the tank in full before I return the car company? How much money I should choose? 10000 yens, does the machine accept WISE card???
