Once in a lifetime find! Granted I'm using my left hand in the video, it's not completely healed and can not make a fist or hold a stick for about a week, the slingerland drums can be salvaged with a ton of work, in my experience it's just not worth the time Vs what they are worth but I'll hold onto the shells in case I want to tackle it later. #drummer #drums #snare #snaredrum #vintagedrums #d...

Such Awesome Tips in your videos, I would never have thought of sanding those hoop strips smooth like that!
@@fatbarrybrown thank you!
This is such a great video! All your videos on the resto of this kit are the best I have found on these processes on TH-cam!
@@fatbarrybrown thank you!
Great video, Shawn! I'm only now really getting my hand 'dirty' so to speak, with routing my own edges, and it's going great! This is a wonderful tutorial. Slow and steady, and the results are amazing. Thanks so much for sharing! (Great idea with the pencil, BTW!).
@@drumdotpizza thanks brother!
Great cave, and an awesome collection. Looks like a fun room!
@@mtrow23 thank you!
$600 for those?! These are beautiful warm sounding drums. I have 2 large kits of these. Love them!!
@@Drumming-Life yup! They are cool! I'd like to find an 18" floor Tom for it! Thanks for watching!
Hey, a little Come Together. Nice!
@@keithstory-rj6mf thank you 🙏
Man that's just crazy original! Heads???? So cool!
@@keithstory-rj6mf a few of them!
Hey Shawn, Believe I told you in a comment on one of your other videos that I had those original ones long time ago. I was 10, now 66. Very close to the first real drums I ever had. They are just beautiful and what memories. Got'm for Christmas and hardly messed with any other presents I got. Kept them until Ludwig came out with the Vista Lites. I traded my Ringo Black Oyster Pearl ones for blue Vista's trying to go John Bonham style. Wish I knew now what I didn't really know then for sure! Even my local music store guy seemed to try to talk me out of the trade with him. I should have listened or even better, just kept them and bought the Vista's outright. Dang it man! I've even thought seriously on re-wrapping the Ludwigs I have now with Black Oyster Pearl. But...Just wouldn't be the same. You sure find the most cool stuff. I love these vids! Well, at least I've never bought or traded for anything but Ludwigs but absolutyly love all the other vintage brands you come up with. My Favorites! Keep the Beat goin' brother Shawn!
@@keithstory-rj6mf nice! I definitely have regrets about selling and trading stuff in the past also! Thank you!
Kit sounds good
@@ludwigdrummer41 thank you!
This entire kit sounds amazing brother!! Buying one tmr
@@rodrumco thank you!
May I ask what snare and hats you are using? I’d assume supraphonic 6.5 ? And also how do you have your bass drum tuned? Felt strip ?
@@rodrumco yup! 6 1/2 supra, 15" 2002 sound edge hats and a coated emperor batter with a felt strip and a smooth white front head!
That sounds absolutely mighty! Liberty deVito was another drummer using these drums! Loved his sound on the Billy Joel tracks, he absolutely hammered his drums
@@nikcrosina thank you! And for sure, liberty is awesome!
Great kit! Are the edges the same as your RCs?

@@shawnsdrumcave Keep the beat goin' Shawn, I love these man!
@@shawnsdrumcave Do you do re-wraps on shells? If you got one on that, point me to it please.
I got some 80s Ludwigs, 5 piece. Played a wedding once in 100 degrees no shade. I was much younger then so lived through that but my drums didn't take it very well. I need to re-wrap them but I've never done it.
This is an example of making something [difficult] look easy. This is not an easy process, at all. So much potential for failure. You do great work!
@@Craigo-xg5mc thanks brother!
The club date bass drum and the downbeat floor tom are my favourites
@@DDandrums that downbeat floor tom sounds big for a 14" thanks for watching!
@@shawnsdrumcave it sure does
Hoops you had work nice on the bass. Very cool.
@@keithstory-rj6mf they go well!
I had the blue vista lites. 5 piece back in 70s. Loved them. Didn't have the snare but I had a Ludwig Supraphonic. Still have and use that snare. Been through 3 sets of Ludwigs with the same snare. Got the Ludwig Black Oyster Pearl when I was about 10. Ringo Starr style. I see the same ones on Reverb for $16,500. You really got something there with those vista lites. Very, very nice. I'm Jealous LOL! Nice Find!
@@keithstory-rj6mf thanks man! Supras are awesome!
A treasure hunt.
@@keithstory-rj6mf for sure! Haha
I'm currently playing a '80 Ludwig 6-ply 13,16,18,22 and a '67 LM400. Best kit I've played and it's not even close.
@@phillbr51 nice man! Thanks for watching!
Baba O Reily??
@@TerranceTT kinda haha
I bought from eBay a 12x11 , 13x12 Toms and a 16x16 floor tom .All Maple Classics with Keystone badges some kind of Honey Maple finish, very beautiful. The ideea was to make a bebop kit and it came out pretty nice. I converted the floor Tom to bass drum and 13x12 to floor Tom .Now I’m thinking to cut the 12x11 to shallower size but I think it will lose value if I will cut it. Personally I don’t like bigger drums. What do you think? It’s worth it to cut down?
Being orphans I don't think it would affect the value! Thanks for watching and good luck!
I found a vintage pre serial club date 13x9 tom that was wrapped in a God awful fake marble plastic linoleum type of wrap used for furniture, and it was easy to remove cause the glue was dry and brittle. Lo and behold, underneath that crappy wrap, was the perfectly preserved original blue sparkle, to match my set of orphans, which is a blue sparkle set ! What were the chances ??? The problem now, and I could just smack the imbecile who double wrapped this beautiful drum, is removing the glue residue on the wrap, without damaging the wrap. I'm in Canada, and some of the great products you use are not available here in my hometown, so I was wondering if you could help me with what type of product to use to remove this excess glue residue. I'm a custodian for a high school, so I've got access to many heavy duty cleaning, stripping , and restoring products. The Goo Gone I'm using is taking forever to remove the glue. I also used a degreaser/cleaner product from work which seems to work better, but still not sufficient enough to remove it with ease. Any thoughts or info on what I can use would be greatly appreciated. Great job on the drums as always, Sean !👍
@@rhythmista7707 thank you! I have good luck removing adhesives with wd40 and a plastic razor blade. Let it soak in tho and will probably take multiple applications. I usually soak the area and cover it with a paper towel then soak the paper towel a bit more. Might just have to experiment a bit to see what works best for you! Take care and good luck!
Come on, man ! That's insane !!! Beautiful job 👍👍
@@rhythmista7707 thank you!
So you used sandpaper on the edges and scratched the wrap on the edges 🤷♂️
@@HuwArfonJones-j8r um, no I didn't "scratch up the wrap on the edges" 🤣
Great to see such a nice kit come back to life, really enjoy your work and dedication!
@@tobiaswinter1358 thank you!
my favorite Ludwig model
I could see this being a Pink Floyd cover kit too, Nick Mason style! It sure looks like two size bass drums like he uses..
The CX series ..it as good as dw...the shells to me sound better...more money doesn't equal the sound your looking for...👌
@@Robert-h6r7g thanks for watching man!
Shawn possibly use that 14" floor tom as a tom...then get another 16 floor!!!!! I got 2 sets of these and we're 350$ each..and the 14 in middle of bassdrums just a thought and Its badass!!!!!💥🤙👌⭐️
@@Robert-h6r7g I sold this set not long after this video, it was a cool set but can't keep them all!
I bought 2 separately 24" bassdrums...these are highly sought after no longer made...love em!!!!!!!!
@@Robert-h6r7g they're good drums for sure!
These drums are designed to be hit. 30% louder than any kits produced. However they are difficult to tune. Phil Collins did well with them. Really its a not a studio kit. Its for live playing and then its a pro kit that delivers.
very cool!
Great find! Lucky you!
@@boristomakic5995 thank you!
Very Nice
@@keithstory-rj6mf thank you!
I would guess material is not cheap. Not enough to mess up.
@@keithstory-rj6mf for sure materials add up $ it was about $450 ish for wrap and glue
I thought more. Thanks looking forward to more videos and I will look back to get past ones
Man! I thought about re-wrapping my Ludwigs. Till I saw what it actually takes. I could screw that up real easy. I'll definitely get a pro! I'd like to know more dude.
@@keithstory-rj6mf if you are handy it's not too bad but a good amount of work!
Great story and great find
@@user-zx8de8op9l Ty!
Slingerland tom mounts inspired Yamaha's tom mounts for sure. Yamaha tom mounts are my favorite to this day. By the way. I just received a very minty 5 piece chrome Slingerland kit! My fist "vintage" drum kit. I also found a chrome 14 inch shell only tom. It was fun gathering up all the hardware to restore it.

Shawn, I forgot to ask, where did you find this kit? It's a Fibes, which is a rare kit and a Vistalite, to boot. With the amount of dirt, I guess it was in some kind of a garage. Also, it's got a matching snare and second floor tom as well. Overall nice find and again, great job.
