Every time I see people reference PCJ in the comments, the first thing I think is PerCy Jackson 😂 More on topic, the way the book treats its black characters and the sapphic relationship is, at this point, unsurprising, but still gross. Also I definitely feel a certain kind of way about how one black woman is called Nox and the other is an Onyx Priestess. Next book she’s going to introduce a white woman named Diem (like that one coho character lmfao) and another one who’s a Talc Priestess or something. Also while I was figuring out that bad name joke, I found out that Amaris means “promised by god,” which is like one step below just naming her Fantasy Jesus. It also can mean “(child of) the moon,” which I will concede is a cool double meaning when we have Nox as the night and Amaris as its (her) moon. What the sun and shade in this one are supposed to be, I have no idea. Also, the Christian angel Gadriel (alt. Gadreel, who it turns out is not just a Supernatural character) is, according to some texts (i.e. not the Bible), involved in seducing Eve, somewhat muddling our vague Christian undertones. I’m also told that in some translations, “Gadriel” is Aramaic for “edgy shadow boo.” Idk, it’s 1am and I’m running out of steam for analyzing these names (and also I straight up forgot everyone else’s names) but I googled it so I’ll share what I found

Piper CJ avoiding calling this series a "sapphic" story and instead marketing it as "bisexual" makes more sense when it seems like she wasn't that invested in the sapphic storyline to begin with, even putting in more effort for the Rhysand dude. Like, it is a bisexual book, so she can absolutely use that as a buzzword. But now her aversion for "sapphic" makes a bit more sense. But then now I'm confused why she used those titles and covers that heavily imply that sapphic relationship when only one character seems to be in that relationship? 😅

Lost girl is a good tv series with a succubus. and kinda buffy in tone. But hhe is an adult and, i mean the fun tone. So a balance of spice of flavour even if you have like tabasco., because the flavour spoice is more important even if you do like put in chilli and tabasco. Team flavour spice.

9:15 as someone who reads a lot of fantasy, i get so frustrated when authors who think they can write fantasy don’t even know the fantastical creature they’re describing. a succubus can’t put life energy into a person to save them, it’s actually the complete opposite. first of all, succubus are specifically female demons or female supernatural entities, so human women can’t use succubus abilities without some logical explanation. secondly, succubus appear in the dreams of men to seduce them and sometimes feed off their energy and k*ll them. this book is so dumb 😂

And Amaris thinks of Nox like…once. 😂 I’ve heard so much about this series, but I still don’t have any understanding of what it’s about.

PCJ strikes me as someone who was raised conservative and is at a very early stage of the deconstruction process. Like at the level of "believes men and women are equal but thinks 3rd-wave feminism went too far" or "knows racism is bad but argues with POC about what's racist". I don't care to know her backstory but she really seems to think she's a lot more progressive than she is, and that would make sense if she's comparing herself to her more conservative background.

I just picked up the first two volumes of Witch Hat, thanks for the rec Elliot, and like you said the illustrations and the creative use of panels is absolutely gorgeous. I'm also loving the creative magic system and worldbuilding, but my god do I hate Agott. Her elitest and malicious acts were bad enough, but the fact that no one called her out/ punished her for placing Coco in a life threatening situation really irks me. Like there is no amount of character development/ tragic backstory that will make up for Agott endangering other people's lives, Quifrey also takes a lot of the blame for allowing this behavior. Coco is a puppy shapped cinnamon roll, no matter how many times she gets kicked she still has unlimited love (so far as I've read). This limits her potential as a full fledged character cause she's never allowed to be angry or have a negative thought, which is a little disappointing. I'm still intrigued with the series and will continue reading, but I don't think I'll ever love it.

This was helpful because I do like Studio Ghibli and I love character development and this is a series the Amazon keeps trying to recommend me. I feel like this might be a good way to get back into manga for me. I was a big Clamp fan back in the day.

I think the coziness comes from how everything is handled. Like, it's handled with care, while there's a lot of series that handle the darker themes as gotcha moments, throwing it in there without a care in the world. But still, I'm really enjoying it. I love the magic the most. Also, you said the names better than I could. I can't wait for the anime so I can learn.

this was a really nice take to see. i think for me right now witch hat atelier is in a weird spot where i feel like its sort of running out of steam atleast in terms of its current arc and pacing but since its very much ongoing its like things Could come to fruition in the future so all we can do is wait and see. as a personal bias i do recommend reading atleast until volume 8-9 since it has some of the best stuff of the manga in my opinion i think calling wha slow burn is very accurate. it has a LOT of ideas and a LOT of potential but even at this point with around 14 volumes worth of chapters already i feel like pay-off for most of the themes is still a long way ahead (wha does have a monthly chapter release so that also makes it take more irl time, which is fine since its a more humane release schedule)

I think you should focus more on the content you enjoy and talk about it. Maybe you best option for longevity in regards to eant to continue making videos is to focus on things that make you feel good. IT may not have the view count as your other romantasy posts, but the more you do them with more frequency, I feel the more it'll pick up, the more you'll pull in that kind of audience. I'm not on youtube, so take what I just said with a grain of salt. But I'm into your more positive content and want you to stick around and make things you like. I'll watch them and so will others. Maybe a format switch up for those more positive vids may help as well?

Honestly its fine to mispronounce these names. The author specifically made weird names that didn't exist on purpose. So there isn't really a "correct" pronunciation.
