I've never watched Demon Slayer but I sort of always intended to. I just kept putting it off because all I really knew about it aside from the pretty animation were the rumours around the mangaka being a woman being used to deflect criticism around Nezuko's (lack of) characterisation, particularly transformation of a 14yo into a highly sexualised 18yo for power boost reasons. I still might get around to it, because your review tells me there are probably things I will enjoy in the story, but I'll definitely need to be in a shounen mood 😅
Listening to you tear Zenitsu a new one was the highlight of my day and I did have to send the vid to my friend that I watched the anime with. Literal demons in this show and this little shit is still my least favorite character lol
ik this video is 2 months old now but i just wanted to say i love that ur content is varied between not just romantasy reviews but also has other books u do genuinely like!! i personally love just listening to ur opinions especially since it feels like you word so many of my own feelings about a lot of the books/manga/etc i read. so even though these vids dont get as much views i wanted to show my appreciation for them, they still touch people with their existence
I havent read/watched it yet but when I learned their swords werent actually doing the cool fire/whatever stuff and it was just a vusual for us as readers/watchers it killed my interest. Like no that's too cool and badass to just have be fake
Great video! I love a good manga analysis, so I'll have to go back and make sure i watch the other two you mentioned, since i think i missed them (thanks algo). Its a bit funny that I agree with all of your major points and thoughts on the series, but have the reverse opinions of specific examples 😂 (The spider fight is my favorite, in particular how the moment where the Mother Spider reaches for Tanjiro was SO gorgeously adapted in the anime it broke my heart lol) I do find myself bouncing off of Shounen Battle Things more frequently as i get older, bc the basic formula is so rarely shaken up all that much, and the appeal really does come down to "do you enjoy this series's particular aesthetic and characters?". I didnt get past episode 1 of JJK, but the "rapid modernization" era of Japan + A Very Nice Boy protag was a really fun combo for me. But I do think the longer i watch the anime (havent read ahead with the manga yet), the more i am feeling the "Shounen Decay" where some of the elements i really liked are turning out to not actually be getting payoff/are being set aside in favor of The Powerup Grind. Its almost inevitable, but its still a bummer I'm glad you agree that Nezuko (and basically all the women) barely feel like real characters, bc it does feel SO WEIRD for that to be an issue?? I thought for sure after she was unmuzzled she would be involved more, but NOPE, she immediately gets to wait some more while we go on a training arc. Whack. Also i havent heard anyone else talk about it before, but i'm very convinced that the mangaka grew up on Inuyasha (like i did), and twerpy lightning kid is literally all of the "please will you bear my child" jokes from the "pervert monk" character Miroku condensed into a person. Like yes Miroku's constant flirting with women could get a little old, but at least it was in comedic contrast to the otherwise Respectable Image of a monk + being actually useful the other 90% of the time. Twerp kid is just... cringingly uncool in his desperation and i do not care that he "gets better later" lmfaoooo Happy almost-spooky season, hope your week goes well! 🤘✨️
Tanshiro was very compassionate, but gotta stop demons killing the whole story, through he definitly hardens. I mean i like too that when he things something is right he will be stubbern headbut people. So he is very much standing up, and he does what needs to be done. Ok shinobu is the best but sanemi the best character, i really like how and that with genma, how that its a complex relationship and characters. And rengoku is fair but i file him in to epic mentor somehow so less as character. ok tengen is great. its actual good polygamy rep, thats even historical accurate. with people that clearly communicate well too and care about each other. I just think sanemi as funny flawed character who is a jerk but has growth and reasons and is caring, is fun. After shinobu of course. Muzan iant the best villain, thats douma, but he really works as just being the worst, i think he works great as just being tthe worst in making the demons worse too. He is well done as that. And it makes sense he is the most pathetic after the moons and he goes out hatable, fine. I like douma because he is, ok he isnt the most complex character but its really engaging how he didnt choose to do that , he was made a cult leader, as small child and sees that legit as what people want and what helps them., and he never had a chance with not a too strong moral compass sat there in a crazy cult as leader. That makwes him both a fun straight up villain and, a background that has him still being human and not just evil. And the bits how he fell in love with shinobu due him really feeling some connection, because with what messed up he rew with as love. He has more than just being evil. I think its a good historic wuxia swordsman vs magical vampire manga. Its a really good vampire story.
i watched demon slayer's 1st season and felt the same way about the main cast: tanjiro was sweet, nezuko was a pet mouse, inosuke was annoying, and zenitsu was insufferable. i felt like it really suffered from the shonen OVER narration trope and then inosuke's death fake-out made me check out completely. legit ridiculous that the mangaka insists there's no magic just lol lmao and i JUST TODAY realized your plus ultra patreon is a reference to one of my favorite anime I AM A FAKE ANIME GIRL !!!!!!!! 😭😭😭
Haven't read the manga, but of course I've seen all of the anime. I enjoy it for what it's worth. Is it mind-blowing? No. But is it enjoyable, yes! Personally, I'm incredibly excited to see you do videos about anime and manga. I hope you keep doing videos on things you are into 🫶
As much as I like watching the anime , it’s a decent 6/10 not the best but not the worst . I never had the need to pick up the manga for Demon Slayer.
👍🏽
"I feel like it's a condensed version of One Piece." Ow
In terms of structure.

I like him, but like with sanji i get gripes , ok.
Luffy is in fact my all time favorite character.
Same him and Robin are my top two
Yes but you are rare and exceptional
@@dontfretreadbooks lol
Everything you're saying is exactly how I feel about the series. I wanted to love it because the art and the story sounded amazing, but it fell flat.
Thank you for watching

This made my day. Thank you ☺️ I’m on vocal rest this week but I’ll be posting a manga review soon.

All I know about Demon Slayer is "cute girl chew on stick."

In your defence. The reference is a little out of context and nobody else has gotten it.
