Yea well it’s dangerous when your GPS brings you that route to the caverns from NC and a Semi rounds the corner..only reason we knew to stop was a motorcyclist used his hands to tell us to stop….all caught on the photos they take around each curve lol

Your in my backyard and just a small correction there are several gas stops at each end and in the 99 mile twisty stretch gas in the middle at Lochsa Lodge. So longest gas stretch is Lochsa Lodge to Lolo 80 ish miles

I don't like to drive the Tail of the Dragon. I just like to sit at the end and look at all the cars going through. I have a Miata and I've driven it twice, to many moron drivers/bikers on that road that don't understand that crossing yellow lines isn't cool. Also, one thing bikers (mainly rocket bike riders) don't seem to grasp is that while yes, their tires are on their side of the yellow line their HEAD is leaning two feet into MY lane. In my local area after many people got tired of being ran off the road by disrespectful drivers and bikers at the Devils Whip (Hwy 80 north), the locals stopped busting tires and crap out looking out for said types of people. Sport picture takers got ran off and if you come around a curve with your head (or car) in the wrong lane, be prepared to eat grill because people have stopped hitting the ditch for you.

lived in east TN for YEARS, RARELY traveled there, ONLY when I just HAD to go PAST there............even then, I made that ride FIRST thing in the morning and got the hell OUT of there before Team Squid arrived

Hello, from Alaska! After all that you have tunnels too, four of them and if you drive north you frame Mt Rushmore in the tunnels! They are bison not Buffalo. People coming from the east on I-90 stop at the Badlands on your way to/from Sturgis. You also have 1880's (Dances With Wolves) props. They used to have reenactment. Then Wall and Wall Drugs is at enterance/exit for me back to I-90. And there is a missile silo along I-90 most people miss as they drive back and forth to/from Sturgis. Pick up a paper map and read the experience levels needed for riding the roads. It's a good needle to judge your experience. You might need to wait another year before riding a road. It's better than crashing and getting hurt/or worse. Bottom line, don't pass up a lot to see before you get to Sturgis. Most is withing 150 miles of Sturgis!

I'm 54 y/o, past my drinking & party days...but love motorcycles, the Black Hills, & the rally!! I've been to the rally 18 times, have been to Sturgis & the Black Hills once when the rally wasn't taking place...and it was fun, but not as fun as it is during the rally!! I might take my 22' KLR out there when there is no rally, but if I'm on my FLHX, FXRS, or my XL it will be for the Black Hills Motorcycle Classic!!

This past week, my family and i did the Dragon! In my 2024, Bronco, not knowing what or where we were ! The GPS took us through it from Pigeon Forge to Joyce Kilmer memorial forest! Lol! It was a fun drive, I pulled over a lot for the motorcycles! I realized where I was when I got to the end.

I live in this area and way too many accidents happen there. Don't drive like an asshole and slow down. This goes.for 2 wheels 3 and 4.

I live in that region and have been riding Rt 97 regularly for 40 years. "Hawk's Nest" per se, is just a tiny, one-mile set of curves along the cliff overlooking the river... (and be careful the police watch it closely). But 97 west of there is a very fine road. Other great offshoots are Rts. 52 and 55, which run north up to Bethel (Woodstock concert site) and Monticello. The Catskills are my sandbox; the farther west and north you go, the better the roads get. Head for Delhi and Oneonta.

The Boars Nest is nowhere near Spearfish. It's south of Deadwood and Lead.

Great suggestions all around! One destination to add - Devil's Tower in Western Wyoming, a 75 minute drive from Sturgis via SD-34 and WY-24. Hulett, WY is a great place to stop for refreshments along the route.

Iron mountain road has the pig’s tail and the tunnels. Needles hi way doesn’t.

Great spots, every one of them. Just got back from the Black Hills two weeks ago, wonderful riding even when the rally isn't going on.

What a great video! I've only been to the rally 4 times but feel so at home there. After watching this I'm tempted to pack up the bike and head north.

Stupid is the biggest reason

No road in the country is dangerous if you ride or drive it at a blistering speed of 20 mph! The problem is people buy sport bikes, and supercars for a reason. 20mph is not that reason. They will push them to the limit even if it kills them, and sometimes it does. They advertise The Tail of the Dragon as a "difficult road for advanced drivers"! This will definitely attract every adrenaline junky in the country!

You seem to confuse "Scary" with "Scenic"...although the Mt Evans road, like the Pikes Peak road,>>is<< extremely disturbing. Probably oxygen deprivation. {!-{>

All 3 Dragon roads are great, third and newest is on Highway 160. I am just leaving Elkhart Ky and this small area has almost endless amounts of killer roads. Plenty of gas. Highways 80, 83. Perfect pavement, banked corners, quick left/rights. The switchbacks on 160 are a riot. 611 is a lane and a half of fresh tar cut trough a dense forest,. Endless corners and slower paced, very technical. Get off Google Maps and get a paper Delorme map, easily a weeks worth of driving. Not much traffic, no cell service unless your in a town. Put on new tires before you go...

The jersey wall side is absolutely appalling. I can’t stand this bridge.

Hey Doodle. I continue to watch you. My choice is the Cherahola Skyway. Many years ago I described it as the most dangerous road in the southeast. The awesome sweepers will draw you in to the exhilaration of cornering at speed while the awesome views draw your attention to the landscape. You can't do both, choose wisely. FYI, I was one of your instructors in slow tight turns at MSF Alpharetta. I am so happy to see you continuing your pursuit of motorcycling. You are one of my proudest memories. You got the box. Umm… US 50 goes from Sacramento CA to Ocean City MD. Not New York but does cross the Chessapeak…

If anybody thinks the Skyline Drive is scary they shouldn't be riding a motorcycle. Beautiful ride, but nothing but easy, sweeping curves and a 35 mph speed limit.

What about mt rose highway or gieger grade rd both in northern Nevada

How about the million dollar hyway in Colorado?

For one thing, the asphalt is not what it used to be. It hasn't been resurfaced in decades, and it is no longer as nice and sticky as in years past. Some old veteran "Dragoneers" are probably low siding their bikes these days when it wouldn't have happened just a few years back..
