How Long Do EV Batteries Last ?
This EV is 5 years old and has travelled over 107,000 km's, but how long do EV batteries last? Is it still healthy?
A lot of people believe EV batteries "Die" after 2 or 3 years.
Let's find out ????
#nissanleaf #electriccars #electricvehicle #electricvehicles #ev #evbattery #evbatteries #EVbatteryLife #ev4me
🎥 Originally filmed back in Autumn 2024.
⚠️ Also take note, this is an old generation Lithium Ion Battery, not really manufactured in great quantities anymore.
LFP or Lithium Ion Phosphate are the latest generation batteries utilised by BYD and Tesla, the two biggest EV makers in the world
And these LFP batteries have even less battery degradation of time.

Now run it down to about 30 percent, get to a hilly area, start screen recording on the iPhone, then push it hard uphill, that'll tell you the real condition of the battery (keep an eye on the voltage difference of the cells) do that for 5-6kms and that will show you how your battery health is looking like. Btw the 62 packs are the least trashy on the leaf, it has some cooling, others are just cells in a tin can and literally cab fry without thermal management...

Useful little video. Reassuring for those with this model of Leaf. I have a 40kWh Leaf, and there's been a massive reduction on new Leafs here in NZ, with the 59kWh car now just $39,000. These are UK assembled, and are very well equipped. I'm tempted to swap, as I really like the car, but we'll see. The 59kWh model could deteriorate to 75% and still have longer range than mine.

Looks good but, my 2018 Jeep with approximately 70k km and my 1988 chevy with ???K km, the odometer is broken, still have the same range per tank of gas as when new. No repairs on the Jeep other than routine maintenance and just a water pump on the chevy. And since CO2 is plant food both are more environmentally friendly since they don't require strip mining and child labor for the battery. i looked in to getting a used Leaf for my commute to work and the ROI was over 10yrs accounting for gas and at home charging. Still not a good deal and I only drive about 200km a week

It's not just about facts or experience. You need to have analytical discernment. Several points: 1. You're carrying around 450kg of weight all the time with declining utility. Pity if you can't get upgraded LFP battery chemistry. 2. EVs are rather expensive. Just Chinese are compelling, and even then you have to trust CCP won't diddle with the software in coming years for political reasons. 3. The Western nations are about to put tariffs on Chinese product, I.e. EU has placed tariffs of 10+9% = 19% on tesla and 35-49% for Chinese brands. That might well include parts. Thus new cars with no 2nd hand market is a risk.

It is very well documented that the Nissan Leaf had an unmanaged and battery, it is one of the few cars that were known to deteriorate. Thanks to this car, though, every other EV maker learned how to manage batteries, which is why the very vast majority of cars today will rust away before any battery replacement is needed. Unfortunately, the EV haters will never share this sort of video, only the ones from the early days of EVs

We purchased for our second car a 2016 Japanese import 24 kWh leaf that got smashed with fast charging during its early life in Japan according to leaf spy data. Now fortunately for the traction battery we have a more gentle 7 kWh home charger so the battery gets an easier life these days. Our car is our daily driver used every day for work and school runs and with battery health currently @ 78% and vehicle range from SOC 80% to 20% still 100kms which is all we need. The vehicle build quality is excellent everything works perfectly nothing squeaks or rattles, it’s a safe modern vehicle for transporting the family round town with virtually zero service costs and easily still frightens ICE cars in traffic light drags it’s a cracking little car 🤣👍

Your Tesla will handle 92 degrees F temperatures with little range loss. Once you get over 100 degrees, you start to see a loss of range. From 105 to 110 degrees, you will lose about 20% of your range. When it gets over 110 degrees, you will lose 30-40% of your range, depending on the distances that you drive.

@@ev4me2 Yes, all Teslas operate best in moderate temperatures.. Also, make sure that your radiator is clean because it will clog up badly over time and greatly reduce your range. I own a 2022 Model 3 RWD I bought with about 77,000 miles on it. At first I didn't know that Teslas had radiators because they are electric cars. But it turns out they have TWO radiators and they are enclosed in a plastic duct and are hard to get to. Because this system creates a jet stream of air flowing over the radiators, all sorts of debris, beer cans, leaves, twigs, sticks dirt, smashed bugs, rocks and everything else under the sun gets blown onto the radiators, which are primarily used to heat and cool the battery and the cabin. In extreme heat, the heat pump will run full blast to cool the batteries because intense heat destroys the batteries. Intense cold won't hurt the LFP batteries but it does cause them to lose range. The point is, keeping the two radiators clean is mandatory if you want to maintain your car's original range. There are two ways to clean the radiators,. but the correct way is to take off the front bumper and skid plate assembly which gives you access to remove the plastic cover off of the radiators. You can separate the two radiators, vacuum them, and pressure wash them. A third option is Tesla will replace the radiators for $550.00 plus tax, which is a smoking deal. Whatever you do, buy an aftermarket screen filter to cover your air intake for the radiators. This will keep the vast majority of the crap off of them. Amazon sells a bunch of these air intake screen filters for around $25.00 - $40.00, and they are very easy to install.

With high temperatures its essential to have a decent glass roof sun shade. A lot of heat is transmitted through the glass roof. Your range is dramatically improved on road trips because the air con. use is heaps lower. It's more comfortable too with quieter fan speed.

Good question Robert We have done comparison video's in the past, comparing our old 2011 Nissan X-trail to our LR Leaf. But this has backfired in the past because we get questions like: Why did you not compare The NIssan LEAF to a Toyota Yaris? Why did you not compare The NIssan LEAF to a VW Golf? Why did you not compare The NIssan LEAF to a Ford Falcon ? Why did you not compare The NIssan LEAF to a one legged man riding a Penny Farthing? And it goes on and on. Trying to explain to people we do not own a Toyota Yaris, VW Golf, Ford Falcon or a Penny Farthing. It gets really annoying. But we put in the distances at the charging stations, so people can do their own calculations. :)
