Also the cost of a service was saved... and no disposal of used oil etc. The engine oil energy consuming life cycle starts before after a car has "used" it and goes on well afterwards. Not many studies consider this.
Less brake dust/pad wear too, and EV's are just sooo much nicer to drive.
    Great video. Keep it up.

We will go through a larger cost breakdown for the whole year of Ownership, in a video in a month or so.
But you did raise a good point "No Oil change"

Living in Victoria, and incurring the new “road user charge” for ZLEVs would add another 9000km x 2.5 c/km = $225! I charge predominantly from rooftop solar, via the wonderful Zappi, so the road user charge is far and away the most significant running cost for my LEAF. ☹️

Yes a bit disappointing Duncan. I can understand the Victorian Govt wanting to fund roads by fuel excise or EV tax for the wear and tear.
But imagine if ICE vehicles had to pay a tax, for wear and tear on the environment (CO₂ Emmisions). Also wear and tear on the Victorian Healths system for respiratory illnesses.
I wonder what ICE vehicles would pay in a pollution tax per km? It's only fair.

That must be really pleasing when you see how much you've saved. I thought you bought a black Leaf and were getting rid of your ICE car, where's that?

Might be worth also comparing it to a similar type of ICE vehicle (rather than the big gas guzzler) which has ‘best case’ economy which is what people might use if they didn’t go for the EV. For example I have a car that’s about Camry sized, diesel that gets average 5.5/100. On highway runs at 110 kmph gets 4.7/100. A petrol one might add 2 litres/100 to that. Although your video is about your EV compared to your particular ICE (what you’d drive instead of the EV) I think it’d be fairer to compare similar vehicles.

Sorry dude, this is our EV experience.
We choose the X-trail, because its is the other car that we drive. You are really lucky we did not compare it to our vehicle we sold 12 months ago, the 1998 AU Falcon (18lt/100km).
And at the end of the day that is the fairest comparison for us. It is the car we would have been driving, if it was not for the EV. Comparing it to any other car would be false, and thats not what we are about. It's about the savings we have made.
Also if we compared it to a diesel, then people would complain:
Why did you not compare to a LPG vehicle?
Why did you not compare to a small petrol vehicle?
Why did you not compare to a hybrid?
Why did you not compare to a PHEV?
Why did you not compare to your other car?
Why did not compare to a motorbike?
      etc etc
      Cheers Shane and Karen

@@ev4me2 The diesel was just an example of an economical ICE car. It could be any of the other types you mention. The point is an 11/100 ICE car is not economical. Something using 5/100 to 6/100 would be a more legitimate comparison.
Depends wether you see your channel as a 'this is out story', or a 'here's a test case that can be used by everyone' (or a lot of people). If you pitch the videos more toward the latter, it'll be useful to more people (and in this video's case, the 'arguments' will be more convincing).
Pitching a best case EV against a bad case ICE makes it looked biased and those who aren't already convinced will be lost. but I do understand you're talking about your particular situation. If you calculate using my suggestion, the fuel cost for the ICE is half what you've calculated. You're still ahead though :-)
(just worked it out). Fuel = around $700, so you'd be saving $460 a quarter = around $1850 a year. In some states this might just cover rego & insurance, so buying an EV as well as your ICE fleet doesn't stack up financially. Buying in place of an ICE car certainly does and as a second car is very sensible. I'll do as you have - keep the most utilitarian ICE to do the things that the small EV I intend buying can't do (tow or do very long distances with ease).

Hi guys, did you use any super chargers or other chargers on your trips? If you did that would be added to your cost as well. Great update.

We used the NRMA fast chargers but they are free. We fid some test charging on a EVIE & ChargeFox charger, but the amounts were around $10. Not really worth mentioning.
