The Philips CD 960 and CD 880 are still the most analog sounding CD players I've ever heard. Nowadays, many amplifiers have a built-in DAC, Philip did it back in the late 80s - the DFA 888 and DFA 1000
Good, nostalgic video unfortunately, they took away all the media we could record on, recording a compact cassette was a real little ritual
I bought an RA1412 integrated amp to replace a Marantz 2270, back in 1978. Sold it a few years later to a buddy .... he still has today..... great unit.
Wow charge 5 xtreme 3 party box encore ear buds headphones been going around life is better with music …no idea jbl was a man/legacy name rip James b lansing we will jam together one day

I own 2 vintage Rotel vertical stereo receivers. different models. it was shop reconditioned and sounds good.
I recently bought a Rotel RA-1572 MkII to drive my JBL L100 classics, they've never sounded so good. Way back in 19776 or 77 I traded a Marantz turntable for e Rotel RP3000 which later I installed a Black widow tonearm.
My reference system is Rotel.
AI voice= sounds boring to me... i guess it is-
Great video on Sony👌
I had a Betamax player
Phillips marketed a video cartridge recorder/player in about '76 or '77. I worked at a distributor that sold them. Absolute junk. I have disliked Phillips products ever since. (It might have had the brand name NORELCO on the product, I don't remember for sure.)
Thank you for the history lesson on Emotiva and video 👏🏼👍🏼🏴🇬🇧
Excellent gear. I have a solid state amp That gives life and life to Music much like a tube amp Without the hassle of tubes.
Great speakers , had B&W for years , but lately the cost have more than doubled in the last few years , no chance for most people to up grade just to expensive , 804 D2came out at under 6K now 804 D4 14k ridiculous it is & will never be a 14K speaker with all the up grades , Greed has taken over , & that will be there down fall . Greed!!
actually the stereo 8 was called 8 track by everyone and it sounded better than cassettes but was bigger and had an irritating problem with the foam rotting away in cheap models making them unplayable...
What about Sony Xperia mobile phones?
They are cool))
Good idea. What Sony phone do you have?
Listening to this on a pair of Kliipsch earphones.
Which model?
In the early 1970”s I had a vacuum tube operated reel to reel Philips tape recorder given to me by my uncle. It had really lean high quality sound. I wish I had kept it :(
Have you considered doing a history report of Ohm Speakers?
Someday:)
I have felt a special connection with Sony. As a teenager, I worked in repair for a Sony dealer fixing their TVs and audio. My boss sent me to betamax school. I remember the dumb joke the instructor said. After this class, you will be a bunch of master-betas. I had a CD-5 portable CD player and one of those tiny portable TVs. Overall, I like their products.
Nice, are you referring to the Sony Mega Watchman?
@@SonyEnthusiast No, it was a small B&W TV with a steel case like the one shown in this video. A full on CRT set with a telescoping rod antenna lol.
All other japanese brands are accrued by Chinese..
Sony and Panasonic are the best ❤
I know a former “Technics” employee. From what he initially told me, the Japanese parent company “Matsushita” owns both Panasonic/National and Technics. Panasonic/National more towards video/multimedia and Technics towards hi-fi/audio. Since 2007 the name Matsuhita has been abandoned to rename everything Panasonic. The Technics Brand was also on the Verge of Disappearing from the Market. After times changed away from HiFi Component Systems, Technics became very Quiet. In the end they just kept Technics alive as a more Boutique Manufacturer because they have a very good Reputation as a Turntable Manufacturer. Technics had already stopped Production for several Years. But Panasonic kept the brand alive. After a major call out and complaint from the DJ Scene to bring back they're Turntables , they resumed Production. Technics is currently only living off the new Vinyl Hype. Everyone is afraid of the timely end of that Hype, which will once again seal the end of Technics as a Hi-Fi Brand. Technics has been trying to get back on its feet since then, but almost every Product is in the high four figures and so there isn't much hope after all to become a Big Player again.

The most overpriced and unpleasant sounding brand I have ever owned.
I had an RC-850 since 1999. Sold it a few weeks ago after 25 years (still fully working) along with my RB-1070, but only because I got me an RA-1572. They sure do last!
DAT, DCC, and MiniDisc had something else - copy protection - that hurt them. If users could have made lossless mix tapes from tracks from CDs, they might have been a success. Also, Laserdisc was far more successful that RCA's stupid videodisc format that was played with a stylus. I'd consider RCA's videodisc format far more of a failure than Laserdisc.
Eventually, everything becomes obsolete. This is a fact but, we still love what we did and do-still. My white-wax collection of cylinders from before the turn of the nineteenth century, I shall always cherish.
Among audio equipment from japan, rotel is one of the best.. compare to like denon, marantz, onkyo… but problem is not many people knows rotel.. i used rotel and it sound good… i used pre amp and power amp from rotel to drive my dynaudio floorstand… and sound good…
I have two components from their 900 series, an rx950ax receiver and a rcd951 cd player and their both keepers. I always thought that the company was British, so thank you for clearing up the confusion.
Thank you for watching

My dad had the RX1000 receiver around 1980. A local shop had the full set of 1000 series components in a rack. Looked great!
Hi great informative video, I had the Rotel rx100 l tuner amp great kit I had over 30yrs ago now I have the Rotel a11, cd11 and t11 tribute great kit and good reviews . Regards mark
Thanks!!
I’m a huge Rotel fanboy! Well I’m not into their Home Theater receivers (Anthem has it covered) but their cd player, am/fm tuner and their dac are nothing short of amazing
I bought the 802 in 1980. Still enjoy them.
I’m a Rotel fan….That’s what I own 👍
Jazz. That’s all I ever hear from demo’s. Or a ‘Demo’ track. I’ve been an audio fan my entire life, starting with my first setup at thirteen. If yo want to test a speaker, throw some real world audio on and see if it can hold up. Likely not. Complex fast instruments and heavy beat like dual kicks will not come through clearly. Of course if you like jazz then go get em! But still a truly good speaker can do it all. I’ve put together systems for under 5000 complete that will easily and by allot , out preform any klipsch with any amp for 30,000 less.
I got the pre and pw amp combo RC-1580/RB-1582 amplifiers ... there are very good! But the rcd 1520 cd player was the worst I ever bought, the mechanics are 🤬! And the RDG-1520 Streamer was also a big disappointment... no Flac and really not easy to use. I sold the cd player and streamer for the cambridge audio stream magic 6 and cd player. But today I'm on NAD and Pro-ject turntable and very very happy with it. But Rotel Amp are very very good. Recommended !
Rotel is so underrated - great video! The good thing about Rotel vintage hi-fi is that it is very well built and can be had for not much money. For example, certain vintage NAD amplifiers command high prices. A NAD 3020 is completely outclassed by, say, the Rotel RA 840BX MK1... the Rotel's sonics and build quality are far superior! And Rotel's 1980s/1990s pre and power amplifiers punch way above their weight...
I knew Rotel brand from mid 1970 s .I thought Rotel is a BRITISH brand.Ad s were seen What HI FI mags
Thanks for your comment! No, Rotel is an Asian brand
Rotel have always represented value for money I use their class D power amplifier the rb 1572 which is rated at 250 watts a channel in 8 ohms it's only a two channel power amplifier the really good thing I like with Rotel is their power ratings for their amplifiers as they are all measured across all channels driven and all frequencies ,nad do the same most manufacturers pick a certain frequency peak and use that as there power ratings hence the term peak music power

im watching this on my TV hooked up to my PC, which is hooked up to a pioneer VSX-515 AV receiver. the audio is playing through polk T15 bookshelf speakers. i rather like those polk speakers
no, thank you
Before the end of the century Sony make Dolby S. Audio magazine try to compare Dolby S with DAT DCC or with DAT. I'm not really sure of clear winner. Do you?
JBL used to make high end audio systems. The L100 series even today are considered to be one of the best home audio speakers ever, that will outlive you and your grandchildren. But nowdays though they just make worthless plastic that probably lasts only few years.
Their professional stuff is still good.
JBL Boombox 3, I like Metallica, but not that much. The Charge 5 and Flip 6 will do
Damn.... I just learned more about the 8-track player in the past 3 days participating in the comments of this video than any other video or article or whatever on the internet in my entire life. And I was just watching the movie "Stoned Age" and one of the guys in the movie was like "your tape player ate my tape man" and it was an 8-track that got chewed up. Lol.
