I worked at the remote oilfield Kuparuk on the north coast of Alaska. Most jobs require two individuals as they rotate two weeks on duty / two weeks off duty. The radio repair shop was manned by two guys and guess what their last names were? That's right, Bowers and Wilkins. Blew my mind. There's something going on in the universe to make that happen.
My first pair of loudspeakers I bought from my own money were the B&W DM302 with prism backpanel in 1996. I was 14 years old and loved them very much. A few years ago I bought a second pair on Ebay for about 50 euro in mint condition. Those 2 pairs are installed now at my workplace paired with a good subwoofer and still a joy to listen to everyday for me and my workmates.
Lot's of memories of my home city of Durban, very English. They were very popular among those who could afford it. I realised during your video that they were still a new brand in the 1970s so their reputation spread really fast for a premium brand. When I finally listened to them in the early 90's, some of their competitors were better & went for a Canadian brand called Paradigm. Cheers from Auckland 🇳🇿
I still have my 801 Matrix S3's that I use everyday. I converted them to self powered, triamp operation which made them even better than the already great performance!
For anyone not familiar with Bowers and Wilkins products this video would be confusing since you use a lot of footage from the current design and production build of their speakers, when talking about products from the past, including headphones, or in other words, the images did not match the products you are talking about.
I still enjoy my 802 FS series 80. Never had any repairs or modifications made to it. Control them with Audioanalyse C900 and A9 and they are very good friends imo.
Being a broadcast engineer, I couldn't believe the quality coming out of B&W speakers when they were first made, and I have owned them from the days of the DM3 onwards. I have a pair of DM4 in my lounge which are used for TV and other listening, and as you say, no electrolytics in the crossover. I replaced the capacitors with modern day WIMA (similar to the originals, which had degraded over 40-odd years (!) even though not electrolytic). Couldn't believe my ears! The DM4s are still my favourites in the house.
I bought a set of B&W speakers in the 90ties. When I brought them to a repair shop to have them looked after, they were amazed by the quality of the materials, components used. Also the sound blew them away.
If what's said here about B&W after its acquisition by Sound United and Masimo is true, it's a dramatic contrast with what happened with another great legacy speaker company, Boston Acoustics. BA was completely gutted, with almost all of its USA-based jobs eliminated, and now is basically nothing more than a brand name.
And now they have their speakers made in China. I'm sure some people will take that into consideration. There are so many good speakers on the market that aren't made in China, so the choice is yours.
I have read in new Stereophile Issue of what happened to Classe by Masimo. In short, Bowers & Wilkins may NOT survive. Surprised Video didn't mention the 805 Speaker System. But, i liked the part about the Nautilus Speakers.
I used to try copy the 801 with bookshelf and powered subwoofer on top. Recently I backed off and use a mono sub and stands all wall mounted and coupled.. which would think would suck.. but doesn't
A good speaker set can be recognized by the fact that when it is working, it "disappears" from the room, leaving us only with a wall of sound. B&W works like that. I use DM 603 S 3 and it's good! It would probably be better with the 8 series, but the cost is too high. 👍
I truly wanted to like this video and I'm sure hard work actually, but that robot voice is too distracting for myself to continue. Let's hear the artist, not they're robot!😊
Yes, I'm well understand that a normal human voice is better for dubbing, but I've already explained many times why I don't dub videos. Check out the welcome video of my channel. I do everything myself - AI voiceover is my only assistant. Thanks for watching!
@@multimedium_channel_en OK dude, I watched your welcome video, and it is good. Still, I would rather listen to your voice even if English is your second language. Good luck.
It will follow the same path as the Hewlett Packard Instruments and the Agilent Technology: it makes no development cost saving, no production cost saving in so very different markets as professional electronics or in this case consumer electronics and medical technologies, though both are electronics and software, and eventually they will either split again as did Agilent and unfortunately for the instruments division coined as a new brand Keysight, or the old and famous consumer brand will be killed by selling it to some chinese.

Sadly that has happened to many great audio companies,
Bought a pair of Nautilus 804s in 2001. Still have and enjoy them. They sound great, although they are quite finicky with the driving audio equipment.
And now they have their speakers made in China. I'm sure some people will take that into consideration. There are so many good speakers on the market that aren't made in China, so the choice is yours.

So disappointing that a video about sound reproduction would be completely unwatchable because of the embarrassing lack of an actual human voice.
Who's playing the background jazz riff loop? Thought it maybe Marsalis initially but not so sure, Shazam failed to identify it
It is just a free to use track "Hot Dog" from Clipchamp. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for that info, should have guessed. I enjoyed the documentary, good detail and images. Fascinating
It would be great to have an actual human voice do the narration. Interesting Ai history of B&W though.

Ditto. It works for 30 seconds or so, and then it's tedious. Cannot even say Worthing properly! Nice pics though!
Would have loved to hear an english narration instead of an american one. After all, they’re made in Britain.
