Welcome back Sian - was so lovely to watch your new episode today over my lunch break. So many beautifully made finished objects - you're a whiz with that sewing machine! Your Starflake is so pretty!! I love it so much! Looking forward to our KAL 🥰
Thank you! You’re too kind 🥰 I am too, it's gonna be fun!
Hi Sian lovely to see you again 😊 Your Tulip sweater looks beautiful I love the colour! Wow KAL I am all for it!
Thank you so much! I'm excited to have people join in the KAL!
Oh yes busy fabric in tutorials makes everything soooo confusing. I’m a beginner sewer and I did the Flora Blouse following a video tutorial and mostly just used her verbal instructions cos the visual was practically useless it was such a chaotic fabric choice!
Haha yes, sometimes the visuals really get in the way! Glad you found the verbal instructions helpful though 😊
Hi Sian. Love seeing what you’re creating! Love your colour choices. And you’re right they do make you glow. Have a great holiday🎉
Aw, thanks for the glowy colourful love, it means a lot! 💗
🎉
Hi Sian nice to see you back! Your Starflake looks fantastic and I love the colour of your Tulip. You’ve certainly been sewing up a storm, enjoy your trip away.
Thank you so much! 😊 I hope to have lots to share next time.
This was great to catch up! Love the sewing and those patterns too. Those really are your colors and really suit you very well! Have a great holiday and enjoy.
Thanks so much! I can’t wait to have a little break.
Loved this episode and all your makes! Your colours are always wonderful, so vibrant…love them. I have been actually considering dyeing some yarn with Rit. Was it a positive experience? Your Tulip is looking really fabulous…I suppose the colour is holding well?! Let me know if you think I should give it a go! The mini mock neck tank is such a fun project and I have been wearing it a fair bit…maybe it’s worth knitting another one 🤔
Thank you 🥰 oh yes you have to try it. I dyed on non superwash wool and had no problem. I chose the Rit dye that’s most suitable to wool & cotton/ natural fibres & followed the instructions, except I didn’t boil/ simmer the water with the wool in it, (coz I didn’t want to felt it). I just used really hot water in a tub and added the wool. I left it until it had reached room temp and then drained and rinsed a few times. I’ve had no issues with dye running, and the colour has held really well. Oh yes, please join us on the KAL!
@@theobsessivemaker thanks for the tips! I will have to give it a go 😜
Awesome 🙌🏻 would love to hear how it works out! Oh, one thing I just remembered. I also tried dying some undyed silk Mohair but it was hugely unsuccessful. I don’t know what I did but it all just ended up as a felted mess and I had to throw it away.
So great to see your glowing face back on YT Sian. Happy holidays and look forward to seeing the KAL unfold. Also your stash storage sure is pretty 🎉
Thanks so much 🥰 Can’t wait to get away & explore Singapore again.
Hi Sian, lovely to see what you've been working on. Your yarn wall is so fun and would be great inspiration for planning multi skein shawls I think. I have purchased the mini mock neck tank pattern but am yet to cast it on. My birthday is on November 1st so if your KAL has started by then, I might join you as a birthday cast on.
Thanks, isnt it fun! I wish I could fill the whole Wall! Ooo yes😃 it'd be great to have you join us in the KAL. We just made the announcement on Insta, it starts on Nov 1st! It's always exciting to get to a new project and I hope your birthday cast on is a joy to knit!
Love your yarn wall 😍 And the colour of that jumper you are wearing is gorgeous and suits you so well🧡. Glad to see you back.
Thanks, it’s one of my favourites 🥰
Girl! That colour makes your face glow so much!! Love all the knitting and sewing!
Thanks so much honey 💕 When are we going to see you back on the big screen?
Cute!
Hello.Thank you very much for such an amazing review. I am a Ukrainian , and I love knitting. By my fate, I went to Edinburgh, and, of course, I visited a local yarn shop where I bought 2 skeins J.c.rennie. What a wonderful yarn with velvety colors!!! ❤❤❤
Hi 👋🏻 sorry for such a late response to your lovely message! Oh good on you! What a wonderful treat and the perfect souvenir for your visit to Scotland 🌟I’d love to visit myself one day. Have you made something with your JC Rennie?
Hi, yes .I bought a greasy cone, and I am going to knit weightless pullover from Strands of Joy Book by Laine.
Oh lovely! Please share how you get on. I’ve just posted a new video where I share my experience Knitting directly from the cone. I’m almost finished that project and will be washing and blocking it when I get back from holiday.
Yes! Your tamarack bomber looks awesome! You are so clever with your hacks. lol i enjoyed hearing you chat about your fennel Fanny pack! How funny that we both had the same issue. And don’t worry - you filmed this before I filmed mine! And I regret not watching this earlier 😂
Really love the scarf that you've made and I am totally thinking about making one for myself. Your shallow is gorgeous and a great example on where to use advent monies. and my favourite is the bomber jacket!
Aw thank you 🥰 and apologies for this late response.
love seeing your face again! That coral reef scarf is amazing.
Thank you 🥰
Congratulations on getting so much done from your wips!
Thanks☀️ it’s felt good, a load off the mind 😂
Good job! 👍 I have to ask what is the name of the vest you are wearing? I absolute love it & the colour too 😍 ❤ Susannah
Thank you! The vest is the Weekend Slipover by Petite Knit. It’s definitely got a lot of wear over the winter and springz
I just found your channel and I'm enjoying it very much. Hmmm, WIPs--I have to get my sewing room done first but there will be a day when I get to them--I promise!
Aw thank you 🥰 Haha, I completely understand. We need a haven in which to create. I hope your sewing room is coming along well?
I loved this vlog, thanks for taking us through your completed projects! I was here for your initial WIPs video, so it felt like such a victory to hear that you made it through so many of your projects. That bomber jacket is so delightful and puts a huge smile on my face. I had a recent victorious project, where I completed a designer-inspired dress that I started in 2022. I couldn't believe that it had taken me that long, but I was so happy to finally sew on the final button. I share it over on my YT channel in a two-part series and I hope you check it out as well if you'd like.
Congratulations on your completed dress 🙌🏻🌟 that feeling is great isn’t it?! I will head over and watch your episode now 💕 Great work!
I love all your makes, but that bright pink bomber and the quilted bag are my favourite...maybe because I adore pink?! I have actually resumed a wip just this afternoon, my EXP sweater that I started last year and then abandoned for some reason I can't remember. I look forward to completing it now, and wearing it at Bendigo. Hope to meet you there?! Happy making! x
Pink it just delightful though :) Oh I'm really glad you picked up your languishing WIP again. Isn't it funny how we forget why we put projects aside :D I hope to see you and your sweater at Bendigo too!
What a lovely round up of your makes - it must be a good feeling to have so many things completed!! I love the coral reef wrap, it definitely looks cosy. I know what you mean about shawls. I just finished my first large shawl and it is lovely to look at and I'm very proud of the final product, I am having a bit of trouble styling it, but I think I just need to keep experimenting. The yarn is gorgeous though.
Thank you! Oh my goodness, such a relief :) Glad I'm not the only one that doesn't know what to do with shawls, lol. But yes, you should totally be proud of it!
It was lovely to see what you have been finishing both in sewing and knitting 😊 The pink jacket is amazing! And I love both of your shawls. I have a wip that has been in the corner for few years, its a crochet cardigan\jacket pattern by Marie Wallin maybe it will be finished one day 😊
Thanks Sylvia 🥰 Oh you must get that crochet project out and give it some love. I didn’t realise Marie Wallin also designed crochet! I thought she was all colourwork.
I love that jacket! Sucks about the pinafore, but it happens with sewing. You can't try before you buy. At least it's finished and you can move on. 😊
Thanks Laura 🥰 yeah you’re right, it’s part of the process. Maybe someone else will enjoy it though.
Ooh yay!! I saw the notification for your new episode and jumped on straight away! How good is your pink bomber jacket! You’re so talented Sian ❤. Great episode. My machines are gathering dust if you’re desperate to make sewing machine covers 😂 I am obsessed with your traveller shawl too - those colours!
Thanks Kath 🥰 Haha, 😝 , I think I’ll leave the covers for another time.
I thank you so much for this information. I had not heard of JC Rennie. I have been wanting to buy cones and buying the machine cones. You can get it at a lot better price correct? And I’ve been wanting to find some wool that isn’t real scratchy there’s gotta be some softout there I’ll keep watching to see what you think about the softness. You got the super soft is it soft?
I thank you so much for this information. I had not heard of JC Rennie. I have been wanting to buy cones and buying the machine cones. You can get it at a lot better price correct? I had a question that you didn’t cover and that was is it prickly at all? Is it really soft? How does it feel because you never did say that
Hi, I had only knitting up some swatches at this stage, not a full project. But I have knitted with Holst Supersoft (check out episode 18) and it’s not the softest, it’s more of a rustic yarn. I’m now working on a garment project in the JC Rennie Lambswool cashmere blend and it promises to be rather soft to the skin. The swatch was washed up beautifully and the unwashed/greasy yarn is not bad to work with. I hope this helps. But keep watching for an upcoming episode where I talk about it.
Thank you for sharing ! I'm so excited I'm going for the first time this year from Canberra. 😊
Hope you enjoy it! I might see you there 😃
In episode 14 you are wear a white/cream jumper with little bits of colour through it can you tell me the yarn used please
Hi! Sure thing. It’s a combo of Wild Earth Yarns Polwarth DK (undyed) held with Sysleriget Silk Mohair in “Unicorn Party”, a rainbow speckled base. Since this mohair came out I’ve seen a few other dyers do something similar so it’s more accessible now.
Love your channel Could you hold picture of patterns and yarn bands up for people who don't know Also can you do a podcast of fellow Australian yarn knit crochet podcasters
Thank you! Oh gosh I’m terrible at holding on to ball bands, I always throw them away once they’re off the ball 🤣But I will be better in future. If you haven’t seen it yet, my friends Kath (@MindfulMelbourneMaker) & Sarah (@sosarahsewed) also have channels.
i would love a pattern
My apologies for keeping you hanging for so long. I have published the pattern over on Ko-fi and you can find it here: ko-fi.com/shop/settings?src=sidemenu&productType=0
thank you so much. My daughter just had surgery and still in hosp. thought this will be a nice way to help her feel better. how thick is the fold over elastic?. that’s the only thing I don’t have yet
@@lisadesmond2624 I hope your daughter has a quick recovery! You can use any width of fold over elastic. I've used a narrow 20mm & medium width 30mm (10mm & 15mm when folded) one for all the covers I've made. If this is your first time applying fold over elastic, go with a medium width one, and choose one with a plush side that you can use against the skin.
Hurry , I found some one in Melbourne 🤗👍
Could I please get your pattern. If love to try and make some for myself.
My apologies for keeping you hanging for so long. I have published the pattern over on Ko-fi and you can find it here: ko-fi.com/shop/settings?src=sidemenu&productType=0
Thanks so much for the informative video! I have use the Holst Supersoft and find it a bit scratchy even after washing. How do you find the JC Rennie cones in terms of softness and scratchiness after washing and comparing to the Holst?
Hey, sorry to leave you hanging for so long. I’ve been really lax in checking up on my TH-cam channel. Honestly, I haven’t knit much with the JC Renni cones as yet. I am working on a Laulu shawl by Sari Nordland with the wool/cashmere blend at the moment, so I will report back in my next episode on the softness. But I totally agree with you about Holst, the super soft hasn’t really softened that much after it’s been washed. But the renunculus tee that I made in the Holst Coast has softened significantly since I first made it.
Maybe you're supposed to put the stitches of the 1st triangle of the traveller shawl on scrap yarn and finish all the edges with an icord bind-off once the shawl is finished? I am so in love with that tamarak bomber, bummer that I live on another continent and we're not friends. I also watched your stash clean out today, and I have to applaud you for your sense of colours, looking at your stash and your wips makes me so happy (it is very grey here in the northern hemisphere).
Thanks for sticking with watching these long episodes of WIPs and stash reset, you should also be applauded 🤣💕 seriously though, thank you. I love my refreshed stash, and now I feel like I have some air to create with my lovely remaining fabrics. Where in the northern hemisphere do you live? I figured out the shawl conundrum. The knitter is definitely expected to go back to the preamble of the pattern to find the tutorial link. But it would have been so easy to just insert a sentence at that point of the instructions to clearly direct the knitter.
@@theobsessivemaker I'm in Germany.
I am quite like you in that I often lose interest in a project when it's so close to being finished. I have a couple of shawls waiting to be blocked, and several sewing projects that only need a few bits doing to them to get them done. Taking everything out and looking at how close you are to finishing is often the kick up the bum to just do it as the saying goes! Personally I would line the sleeves of your jacket, if only to avoid that horrible feeling of putting the jacket on over something that will catch or 'stick' on the sleeves when you put your arms in. The lovely feeling of your arm sliding into the sleeve will make up for the couple of hours (at most, hopefully!) taken inserting the lining.
Thanks! You’ve made an excellent point and convinced me to insert the sleeve lining 😃
I just swatched for this knit with a acid green/grey mohair. I just wanted to say you are abslutely fabulous in this hot pink !
Thank you! Acid green would be such a fun impactful colour 😃
When i made these for a friend I cut the pieces that go next to the body from regular fabric. I then cut a lining for these two pieces instead of using bias tape. Sew around the hole with the lining. Clip curves. Turn right side out and top stitch. Sew lining to bottom section. Turn right side out. Stitch together and turn right side out. Makes a nice neat finished item
Excellent technique and no elastic required :D
I would like the pattern please
Hi, ive made the pattern available over on my Kofi shop which is linked in my profile. Thanks 💕
I love your blouse! such pretty fabric and shape
Why not leave the eyelets on the Tolsta as a yoke detail and knit the rest of it in stockinette?
I might mull it over a little longer.
I love the little Woollie advent you got. Which mood board did you get? I got grungy goodness and merry and bright but I was torn between merry and bright and the pastel rainbow mood boards.
Ooo nice, a friend of mine got that the grungy goodness one. How was the merry & bright? I got the vintage rainbow Dk - 12 days. It fit my pastel palette 😂
I have 18 crochet and knitting wips at the moment 🫣 I am trying to have less than 10 by mid year I think. I can’t sew anything more complicated that a project bag but I enjoyed seeing all your lovely sewing projects!
Snap! I have 18 too! Ok, we can do this and get some completed 🙌🏻
I laughed at loud when I saw your fennel Fanny pack pieces - I have the exact same thing - all cut out and in a pouch since Christmas 2020 when I was planning to make it while on holidays. Stellar effort making this video in the one take in the heat! So many projects that are so close to completion! Hopefully touching them all has given you a boost of motivation to continue lots of them. The pink bomber jacket is a fave for me!
😂 really?! Maybe we should have a fanny pack WIP down?! Oh yeah, airing them all out has me eager to finish them.
Good idea! I really do want to finish mine at some point!@@theobsessivemaker
Definitely use the BWM cotton for another summer top, it’s amazing. I just finished a long sleeve cotton jumper from left overs. Washes really well in a bag in the washing machine. I also made the Camp Wilkerson shawl by Caitlin Hunter with it. Loved seeing all yr sewing. Wish I could sew 😫
Oh fab, thanks for the feedback on the yarn. Might try to use it more often, it so affordable too. Aw thanks! You could learn to sew too 😃 it so fun and rewarding! All you need is time, curiosity to learn & an old cheap sewing machine.
That Tamarak bomber jacket is so good!!I I love seeing all the WIPs! You could just keep going on the Tolsta in stockinette and just have two eyelet rows in the yoke. Love the lady face pants! Ooh thanks for the shoutout!! ❤❤❤
Thanks! Hmm, I could keep going on the Tolsta, I’ll mull it over a little longer 😉 The pants are rather fun aren’t they?
Love your creations. You are so talented and colours are always stunning. Thanks for another great podcast.
Thank you so much!☺️
Big applause from me for your look at these lovely projects. I have often found as you said at the beginning something you had been ignoring took 15 minutes to fix. UGH what we do to ourselves huh?! I am getting inspiration from your work!
Oh my goodness, yes! 🙌🏻 Procrastination is so bad 😂
