I commented in your last build that the colour of said guitar should be *Hank Marvin Red.* It now seems I was just one guitar build out 😁

Hey Pat. Good project. I reckon lots of people will more likely have a crack at something like this, rather than a scratch build. Cool

Keep an eye on the length of the neck screws too, seeing as the body is that much thinner. May be worth using the old ones with the new neckplate?

A cool project Pat. Well within reach of many weekend warriors like me! 😅 I’m actually in the middle of doing the same with an Asian Epi Casino. Some challenges but there you go. Can’t wait to see this one finished. Love fiesta red

You can get conversion bushings, if you wanted.

This is going to be interesting. A SQUIER MARVIN.
I would assume it would have to sound like Wonderful Land when done. Over the years Hank dropped his '59 Fiesta Red for a more modern build with a wider neck and different p/ups. Still we associate The Shadows' tone no matter with Marvin.
Getting an entry model neck and body to achieve this is going to be the goal. The sound of the wood will be key.

Patrick I'm sure that there are tuner bushings that convert 10mm to 8mm though i bet you plug them and re-drill....lol 😊😊

The Afinity Strats are thinner, and slightly smaller, you will have to plug and redrill the pick guard holes, but it’ll work, I’ve done it and the cavity will accommodate the good switch

Nice choice for a project. Less stressful than a complex build but satisfying nevertheless.

I have a fiesta red G&L Legacy. What a nice color. Looking forward to see how this one turns out.

And btw isn't Hank's Strat figured maple with gold hardware ?

Go the old school Fender way and paint the fiesta red over the sunburst.

There are conversion bushings from Kluson available for all different hole sizes.

Don’t strip it. Back in the days Fender would do custom colours over the sunburst, so it will be more Hank Marvin periods correct, to leave the burst underneath.

Your mate is a lucky guy. It sounds dreadful with those stock pickups.
How does the weight of the neck compare to the Strat neck you made recently?

With my limited time and ability this is my level of project, I will learn from this I'm sure. I was given a squire , converted it to a travel guitar, took it on a trip to Thailand and got everyone to sign their name on it! It looks cool but plays terrible!!!

You didn't waste any time getting to another project. With that polyester finish you shouldn't need to strip to bare wood. Just fill any dings and go for it. Unless you think the relicing will show it.
