Lubrication test of Waterborne adapter - this is how easy it should swing and return to center.

I've made this short video for a friend to demonstrate how little resistance a well lubricated Waterborne adapter would have when returning to the center. This is the one I rode for 55 miles / 89 km in a day and I've lubricated it once about a year ago when it first started to squeak. I took it apart awhile ago and applied White Lithium grease made by Lucas from Home Depot on the disk bearings ...

Foot-wheel brake on Waterborne long surf-skate on a cutout deck-my humble finding. It works!

While Waterborne Longboard Surfskate can pump uphill no problem, it was always a challenge for me to roll down these pedestrian overpasses other than counter-pushing or walking (which is slow).. Is it motorized?
Not motorized, it moves by "pumping" motion by muscles. Other videos on my channel show pumping from standstill on different boards from various aspects.
That is a great idea, thanks! I'm glad your video randomly got reccomended to me. I'm going to try this.
Hello again fellow skater l,I am still a bit confused to get the Camo or Banzai or Jamie o Brian model? I am 1,64 cm help please I'd get them all but I'm not sure if the 34 is too short? Should I get the 36? Thank you in advance! 🙏🤗
Hello, it was a tough question for me, that's how I ended up with nearly 20 boards for surfskating, LDP etc. It depends on your goals, I've met a person who was trying to improve his surfing skills and the way he rides and his preferences were different from mine. My goal was to just squeeze the most fun of it on asphalt with no expectation to transition the skills to surfing. If you're just having fun on pavement, for 1.64 you'd probably be comfortable with a shorter board. I'm 186 and had a tendency to choose the longest available. Board length alone is not enough, the wheelbase can be different. For Carver boards I find 31-32" to be the sweet spot for carving and even for bowl riding. 28" is a bit too short. On 35.5" if I utilize the kicktail and keep front foot above the front truck the stance is a bit too wide.. It is probably the best if you don't mind finding a local person who has it to try it out - there's active community in FB Surfskate groups. I love meeting local people myself to skate but haven't met many :)
I wasn't familiar with other models - Jamie O'Brian 36 seems to fit this kid well - he doesn't look tall: th-cam.com/video/cr3G3iHylFc/w-d-xo.html Mine is Premiere and it's 40" long (I thought it's shorter), product info says "We recommend the Premiere to riders 5’8”-6’4” or 173-195 cm tall" which it quite a wide range. If you're budget conscious I'd get whatever is on sale (Italo Pro is 80 off on official site), and also see if you like the artwork design. Premiere would certainly be a bit too long for your height. Italo Pro Air is also on sale and suggested height range is 149-170cm surfskate.com/shop2/italo-pro-swelltech/ - the shorter the wheelbase, the easier it is to maneuver, but it also limits the top speed. But Swelltech is not about the line speed.
@@Rideables Ahhh wonderful! Thank you so very much,we have a shop in Cape Town Darkstar, nobody surfskates in Johannesburg but I sure know from my cruisers I'll just Love it they don't sell them here so we can't try any,but I assume like you said the 36 or 34 will be great! Much appreciated 🤗💯💪😎🛹🌴🔥🔥🔥🔥
You ROCK btw!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😎
Thank you!
God the balance is here, yes there will always be fear a bit I'm taking the risk I'll get the Camo or the Bonzai yassss I have all the protection but I want shorts too for my tail bone,I even have a back guard 😂 I'll also get a extra better arm protection and wrist nothing that takes my movement because I can't afford to break anything bo health insurance l,nit to mention the Trauma! I can do it! 💪"Slow is the fastest way" 😊🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Godspeed! Even now I never skate without my fox racing elbow guards seen on almost every video (triple eight wrapped around and failed me) and hillbilly wrist guard gloves. Falling can be trained with parkour rolling outs, I've had some muscle memories from judo in child years I guess.
Ok now im confused that one or the Landyachtz butter? That board turns a lot sharper! Wonder if ill just fall and eat pavement???😂😂😂😂 Help? 🤔 Decisions
That one is the most challenging indeed, as the front truck has no turn/lean limiters and pivots 360 degrees. On another video the front truck "jackknifed" hitting small stick. Curfboard / naish collab is now on sale for 169 complete in the US, I've got myself one a month ago, I hope to edit the video with it soon. Stay tuned! :)
I like a board that turns on a dime will Thay one do so? I'll add my plow wheels to it! Keep it up looks like fun 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥Have the dinghy, a blunt and a tugboat in my quiver!!! 💪🛹💯🙏
That one is fun but was a bit stiff, turning on a dime is a coutresy of shorter wheelbase. I guess in my rating the shortest turn radius is with Swelltech and Curfboard.
What your camera
Insta360 One R, it's quite old nowadays, newer Insta360 would be better.
what is the board under guy on the left? when i pump i do similar moves
It's GBomb Bossa Rio 28" racing series, DDS front bracket, Don't Trip Poppy's 55 dual spherical precision front truck, TTX torsion tail. A long-distance pumping (LDP) setup. You can find more info if you look up Facebook LDP long distance pumping group. Also check out gbomblongboards.com site, specifically torsion tail racing series completes: www.gbomblongboards.com/longboard-completes Кстати можно по-русски :)
Is this a drop thru board? Alsocan a paris 180 work on the waterborne adapter?? Thanks!
Yes, it's a top-mounted drop through from my first experiments but I liked the flex of bamboo. Specific name: "Sector 9 Blue Wave Lookout dropthrough Complete Longboard Skateboard, 9.6-Inch x 42.0-Inch" Paris 180 didn't fit older Waterborne adapters from pre-2021, but they made adjustments to accomodate, so if you order directly from waterborne it might fit. But I suggest checking with their support too. Reddit says it worked with Paris 180s already 2 years ago: www.reddit.com/r/surfskate/comments/z8tze0/deck_and_trucks_for_waterborne_adapter/
You are old man goals
Stop beating those bushings 😂
lol, I was just testing the limits :)
Nice good idea, but after awhile maybe the shoe needs to be changed.
Thank you, actually there are parts of shoe which never wear out like the middle of the sole, and I don't brake like that often. But I for sure shaved off edges of Dad Bod wheels by not placing the foot accurately at the center, so beware :)
no te duelen los pies?
no, with some training it was fine. But years later I was shoveling my yard the other day and suddenly overstrained ligaments around my non-dominant knee, so now have to stay off the skateboards for some time.
Thanks for the video so effectively you start the pumping motion with the front foot only, without relying on the upper body motion at all?
Yes, lean the front truck, swipe the deck as if you're trying to swipe the sole against the grip tape but have a good traction against the deck, lean other side, swipe backwards. Upper body acts as a static piece keeping inertia so that the foot swipe actually moves the board. What are you riding?
@@Rideables Hey, thanks. A Swelltech. The swipe is an excellent tip! Swiping feet in opposite directions with both feet is very useful for power slides. another thing that really helped with pumping was to widen the stance(!) - just moving the front foot a few centimetres forwards suddenly made pumping uphill a possibility.
@@patryk2700 oh yes, on surfskates I also try to stand wider, and have the front foot closer or above the front truck. Initially I was also not utilizing the kicktail, moving the rear foot on it helps twisting the board.
How far did you travel this ride?
This particular ride was ~7 miles Arlington to Lexington and back. Later I extended it to Bedford Depot so it became 15 miles. The absolute longest daily distance on this setup but smaller 80mm wheels was 55 miles when we traveled Cape Cod Rail Trail both ways. There's a video on my channel about it: th-cam.com/video/BqRxtfAFOjE/w-d-xo.html Today I'd choose a bracket board on big wheels.
Reminds me of my old roller skates
What was the turn radius? looking for a dropped deck with much turn.
With CX it was quite maneuverable but at 50" maybe a few yards. I didn't measure. It's a hand-made custom deck I borrowed from a riding buddy.
@@Rideables Thanks for your Answer, I am looking for a wing-skate setup. And that is why i want to turn on small streets, to change direction. Could you turn the deck on a narrow street? Was it more turny then a normal longboard?
@@ClownLikeMe I guess this one is not very practical, my other go to board is very maneuverable 42" Sector 9 bamboo on Waterborne - it turns even sharper and with this length turning around on a Boston area bikepath has to be taken at very slow speed. Another consideration for double drop is the road clearance, I've been catching speedbumps and root bumps even on higher clearance LDP board on 110mm wheels and it's quite unpleasant.
Seing you own the waterborne AND G-Bomb brackets and are into pumping - have you tried the Waterborne on a front bracket? Can't find any experiment like this anywhere.
Hmm, I haven't tried this as Waterborne rises the deck, and brackets lower it and aim to keep the front axle close to the front edge of the board - I'd expect wheels to bite the bracket. But maybe I should try. I've tried to mount front Carver CX and it left for the wheels - they were biting the bracket. Rear CX is not as maneuverable and I had a video with only rear CX on a Glassdrop - it made the board swingy and going in deeper curves.
I thought I was the only one doing this lol. Thanks for sharing
Cool! I had a lot of criticism for this in the LDP group :) What is your setup and shoes? Which one wins - the wheel or the shoe? :)
@@Rideables I ride seismic speed vents about 90% of the time. I wear adidas (sambas, puig, copas). The wheels wear my shoes less than the pavement which is why I started doing it. Of course, I think you should kick your wheels on purpose for practice. I even swing kick the front wheels to gain speed lol.
@@akwinter thank you for the details! For braking in very thin sole Merrells I also occasionally counter-push - not dragging on pavement but touch the ground and resist with muscles. Swing kicking the front wheels - wow this could be risky :)
Hi,have you tried a longboard with c7?thanks
I've tried CX in part of this build th-cam.com/video/hAXREBz4MeA/w-d-xo.html and also rear CX on G|Bomb brackets - as front was too narrow/biting th-cam.com/video/Y9XuO1mq33E/w-d-xo.html It's an interesting idea to try C7 indeed. With Waterborne I can use bigger wheels without extra spacers.
Used cx clone trucks on my 22 board because of this video and it is fun
Wow, interesting idea, thank you for sharing!
So how long did the Xero Prio last you?
Xero Prio are still alive and not much worn because I was mostly riding in Merrell Trail Glove 5 with Vibram sole - they still hold up however the pushing foot sole is the most worn. For my medium width feet Xero feel way too lose in the toe box no matter how tight did I lace them compared to Merrell. Are you considering to buy Xero Prio? What are you riding in now and what are your distances/experiences?
Nice! I'm riding a 44" Koastal on Waterborne/9" Tensor trucks & 43" Byron Bay on rkp. Both a surfy ride I pump about the same speeds as you are for up to 10 mile trips. Both capable, but totally different rides. Waterborne is such arad invention. Best for longboards!
Indeed long deck can cover longer distances all-pumping even uphill. I was favoring Waterborne when I had no skill to push, however now switched to low-down bracket board which I push regular and mongo and occasionally pump - for best time per mile.
@@Rideables Thanks for the reply. Sharing the love of this sport/lifestyle.
This video terminate the rumors.👍
Thank you, 🤣🤙🤙🤙
Can you remember the setup of this Guy on the left. It looks like a fork in the front and a 0° in the rear. Do you know the fronttrucks? Thx
Rob was on SDF (super duper fork by G|Bomb) and I believe it was a sphericalized Bennett, not Bhanger as Bhanger was just released at around the time of filming. The rear was G|Bomb TTS. I personally like Bhanger over Poppy for pumping - better suits my pumping - and it served me well during Ultraskate '22 when I was able to do my first 100 miles.
Do you know how to get rid of the noise from the back wheels when using the back rail adapter?
If you mean the rear rail adapter rattle noise, I've seen someone posted a remedy but can't find my notes on it. But I admit this issue exists on my 2 sets from 2020-21
Thanks for the tip. Here in the Netherlands I can buy WD-40 (blue-silver) white lithium grease spray, so I might give that a try.
Great tip, thank you!
I love your videos! How do you record your speed?
Thank you! For speedometer now I use Insta360 R2 camera and there's an extra accessory called GPS Remote, it captures and saves the coordinates along with the video and it's possible to turn on speedometer overlay during video editing. Before this camera I was recording with a sports tracker, exporting GPX trail, finding linking points and doing layover with free software called DashWare - but it was quite tedious to do.
That looks like awesome fun!! Were the trucks set up with standard Carver bushings?
Thank you, I also didn't expect it would work so well. I guess the bushings are standard - it was before RipTide started to manufacture Carver-compatible bushings, and I'm not sure if Peter (the owner) is into the bushing tuning game. I also wasn't spoiled by choice of bushing in my learning years, so it seems I can ride just anything as long as the bushings are not rock solid :)
@@Rideables well said. We are super spoiled now. I do most of my pumping on Paris RKPs with std bushings but with Carver I find the stock bushing feel really divey
@@davidhumphries6371 Paris RKPs are probably very linear compared to Carver (I hope you mean CX), and there are more divey ones which are fun once I felt stable with the help of tail foot to stabilize the deck - next freedom ones in my rating are Yow (I have old pre-Meraki and it's still awesome), Waterborne, SolRide and Swelltech which has front truck limiters whatsoever...
@@Rideables yeah Paris just work so well for the price. As for surf skate style I’m just experimenting with CX, but thinking about trying out the Yow on my 40” drop down.
@@davidhumphries6371with surfskate trucks turnability I'd double check for wheelbite and clearance on the dropdown. I'm not sure how Peter has made this custom double drop board for very turny Carver trucks

@@WATERBORNESKATEBOARDS I'd really appreciate that!
Rib stick board bibe😂😂
Indeed, same motion, but can go for miles, my daily record on this board is 55 miles on Cape Cod Rail Trail (also in my videos)
Wich one more better ? swelltech or Waterborne ? @rideables
Oh it really depends on the person, the preparedness level and the goals. I use @SurfskateLove Steve Palmer as a reference - we're about the same age, he had no skating experience until his 40s, I learned to pump and balance in my teens on double bennett-like trucks and surprisingly this muscle memory stays with me for decades! I found it easy to get on both Waterborne and Swelltech. Both seemed controllable enough. Waterborne is great for it's low price and versatility - I was using it on trick popsicle skateboard on super-small wheels for close turns, I used it on 42" Sector 9 bamboo deck on 97mm wheels to once do a crazy feat of traveling 90km pumping (with minor pushing) in one day. Waterborne is an affordable way to make any board pumpable. The flaw is that it's a bit heavy and makes the deck too tall - difficult to push unless you're standing on the very tail. On the waterborne you can do long distances. It's real rail adapter imitates the zero-degree truck at very low cost. Swelltech is a beast of maneuvering, it's not easy to pump uphill as there's no turn limiter in the front truck. It was a very interesting experience to ride it, but thinking of the times I rode Swelltech and Waterborne - I spent more time on Waterborne trying it on different length and trucks.
I also found that some persons are motivated enough to try different truck/adapter combinations, some are not very willing to deal with bolts and nuts and being experimental. Waterborne assumes you're of the 1st kind - the tinkerer. Swelltech has proprietary truck mounting pattern and you just use it as a complete unless you're willing to drill more holes in the deck - I still don't drill extra holes in my decks. So it really depends on you as a rider and of how much of a mechanical tinkerer are you.
@@Rideables i am surfers small waves - shortboard = NICE TIPS i just wanna buy Swelltecht = next i want to try apply waterborne adapter to LONG BOARD for Cruiser pumping on the street like you - thanks so much - you're inspiration
@@peccopelco777 Swelltech is fun, but can be discouraging due to being the least stable of all surfskates - if you pick it up without trouble - great, if not - don't be discouraged - the skills will kick in. I'd suggest not to skip on wearing wrist/elbows protection and helmet as it is difficult to control. I still always use protection for just in case and there are still times when they save my joints.
Great - nice one = wanna try this
Thank you, it's very maneuverable! On it the rear foot muscles help to control the lean as it's otherwise very playful - similarly to ripstik or freeskates.
First of all want to thank you for your videos! After watching this i got myself a set of Waterborne surf adapter and applied to my freeride longboard and just love it. Took it today 4 the first time to a pumptrack and the speed is just amazing, i have as much fun as with my surfskate. Hope you continue posting !!! Greetings from New Caledonia!!!
Thank you for your feedback, and I'm excited you're watching my videos from New Caledonia! I'm a bit stuck with posting but I hope to post more in the future. There are new boards, findings and ideas.
Dang those are thicc. Orangutang and Abec11is garbage brand though. Bad quality wheels.
Hmm I don't know, riding Dad Bods now, hitting 19km/h avg speed pushing/pumping on a 24km stretch with few % up and downhill. Which wheels are good then in your view? Seismic?
Incredibly dumb gimmick trucks for mentally challenged people but nice wheels. Next time just do the wheels.
That's very cool my friend, cheers from Australia
Thank you! Cheers!
Stay awesome 👌
👏 "Promosm"
why? ;)
Have you ever tried flipping your rear trucks around?
Yes, however I found that the result is not getting much better, but climbing hills is becoming more difficult..
🤙🏼👌🏼👌🏼🤙🏼
Fantastic
It’s just wild how diverse longboarding disciplines are. This is such a different setup from anything I’ve seen. We’ve all found little corners to hide in haha. Now I wanna try LDP!
Thank you, I've been dormant until 2019 and was amazed how many sub-disciplines have formed, tried to explore them one by one, but I won't be trying the downhill probably :)
Love those decks, sounds like a smooth ride !!
