had an italian greyhound that boarded at a kennel, it broke its leg just from jumping up and down at the kennel gate, since then I'd tell poeple not to get one cuase they can hurt themselves very easily. Not true. Very important to crate train when they are young. My iggy does fine sleeping 8hrs in his crate. He is clingy. Clothes he likes when it's cold or the ac is up. He has a favorite loose fitting flannel long sleeve shirt he likes. We keep fakefur blankets on the sofas and he usually burrows under them.

We've had two. Saxon is gone, but we still have Della. They do have separation anxiety even when you are there. 😂 Our IG is litter-box trained. Once trained they get the run of the house. We can leave for long periods, 5 hours, maybe. Della gets an upset stomach and gets a Tagamint. I worked, when I worked, mostly at home and now we're retired. Della is so sweet and wants to be in your face and in your bed under the covers. Find A place where they can sun themselves. They're very cat-like. They love high places, warm blankets. If you have this kind of setup, you should be okay leaving for hours because they have their litter-box and places they can hide. They get scared easy and they don't like to be outside in high heat, rain, snow and cold. They'll tend to pee inside and you can't get mad. Litter-box training is very easy. It's patience, patience. Order a a dog tray box online. Use puppy training pads as you normally do, then you'll move to the only puppy pad is in the tray. Gradually, over time, begin to move the tray to where it's always going to be. Eventually they'll start going in it all the time and want privacy. Do not put the tray on carpet. They dribble and sometimes miss. They will continue to pee on the carpet if they smell it. I use a baby diaper pail to throw dirty pads in. You can get 100 pads on Chewy for $19. You can fold them so they can pee on it twice. My Della was named on her papers, Bonnie's Sweet Della. Her mother was Bonnie. They are smart dogs, and have really different personalities. If you get an IG get ready for a lot of cuddling and giving praise and little treats for going potty in their box. Winter, yes, they need a coat. Consider a very puffy dog bed so they can stick their noses inside. They are also very sly like a cat. They prance normally, but if they're scared they'll walk slowly and quietly away while turning their head as though you can't see them.

Apparently IG's top speed is c.27 mph (Usain Bolt's speed!), whippets can do 40 mph and Greyhounds can approach 70mph. So IG's seem slow in comparison, but having owned 3, they absolutely *run circles round* retrievers, setters, spaniels, terriers (gun dogs, utility, toy) etc. They all give up after 20 metres probably thinking "what the hell was that!?" 😂

As someone who works from home and who’s husband works from home too, and we are already used to our overly friendly needy cat, it seems like we are the perfect candidates lol

I have one and being a dog groomer he comes to work with me everyday! I have another dog, a chi-yorkie, and he does well being with her if I'm gone running errands. As I'm writing this, he's laying on top of me resting......❤ Love him so much!

I really wish I knew of the housebreaking issues with IGs. Urinating in the house was a constant problem despite multiple, long walks and teaching them how to ring a bell to go outdoors. I loved mine dearly, but through tears, I surrendered them to rescue. I just couldn't do it anymore. That was 6 years ago. I still miss them. Beautiful, loving breed, but not a good fit for me.

Are both genders evenly prone to dental and heart issues?

Lady you realize people work. The planet needs to turn, dogs will adapt. You want a dog, get one. Just love it and spend as much time as you can when you are home and they will be fine.

I recommend crate training. You will need to use the crate to help with all training, especially house training. They are a challenge to house train!

We have 2 boys 1 and 3 years old, although we had others in the past, I agree that the males are super affectionate, having 2 greatly helps their anxiety when they are left alone. For a short period we had only 1 because of the death of our old boy. The 3 year old wouldn’t sleep by himself in the kitchen. Now with 2 again he’s not interested at sleeping any where else. So 2 are much better than 1, in our experience. Thank you for your information.

Potty training advice that starts with 'you should literally watch your puppy 24/7' is worse than useless because no one can do that.

I lived with a male IG for years. He was fun to play with and was SUPER sweet and cuddly. He was also just funny all the time. Loved him. Only sweeter dog I’ve known is the the current male Pomeranian I have. I think he is unusual though.

tip nr. seven is super! I always take my iggy for a long walk before leaving him alone for a long time. An d alwalys return to him laying comfortably (in my bed, that`s ok) relaxed.

I just lost one of my chihuahua/iggy mixes, who was always with me, and my heart is heavy. Seeing Nello reminds me of one of my other dogs who went over the rainbow bridge a few years ago. He would always lick my husband’s arm to groom him. I’m hoping we can get another one someday. Thank you for your video though! They’re definitely velcro dogs who don’t like not being with their person 25 hours a day (they don’t seem to understand there’s only 24 hours in a day lol)

my biggest question is, is how do i train if i cannot stay home while attempting to do so. i really want and italian greyhound and i'll be home for most of the day most days but i typically work 4-6 hour shifts (i am a teenager and i do online school and its only a part time job) and so im not sure how to go about it if i can get a doggo. should i wait until there is a period of time where im not working at all? i dont see that happening though

He's so cute, and small! ❤ I have two retired greyhounds who are much larger of course, but they're lovely dogs. I didn't know about the neutering laws in Germany. Here in the UK I would say most are neutered. I had one greyhound who wasn't neutered due to his age and other dogs would try and attack him for just walking down the street. I think their lack of hormones vs his hormones sent them mad.

I know it's been 3 years, and I am thinking of getting an Italian Greyhound, I would be with them for 24/7, but twice a week, I work nightshifts. I'm not sure how they would go
