I live in California for more than 50 years. “Not upsetting anyone” as a social value mean Consideration and Respect for others. You can tell right away why i can’t wait to leave the US. Guns, crimes, homelessness, dirty politics, discarded elderly, unaffordable cost of living, more unaffordable cost of medical services. I’m not complaining. I have my own beautiful home in a safe neighborhood. I retired and have enough money to roam the world. I am fully covered by my health insurance. No, I am not complaining, just sharing my observations. You lived in Japan for 6 years. I live in the States for 53 years. Wherever you decide to settle, my best wish to you. But be aware, you can be homeless in the US easily but not so to get your million $$. I will return to Kyoto this fall. I’m so grateful for Japan to be what it is just like the Pros list you provide, Connor. Last but not least, if I was 20 again, I would surely go to school, work, and live in California again. No doubt about that. You see, our priorities change often with age. 😊

Thanks for this good video! And I can agree almost everything you say in this video. I also miss Japan way too much. That's why I am aiming to move there again. I also understand that for foreigners it's very hard to make friends in Japan or other countries. Maybe in some places it is easier where are lots of expats or you have common language with the others living in the same place. I am currently living in Spain, and I can agree that. However in case of Japan, it has been vice versa. Good Japanese skills and attitude has been my way to get Japanese friends. In Spain I see that even with the other expats it's quite hard to make friends. I feel that they are living in a Western bubble and they are interested only to smoke weed and watch sports or Hollywood movies. I feel like half Japanese inside, so maybe that's also one thing why making Japanese friends has been quite easy for me. In fact it was fun to see that after being away from Japan for 4,5 years, the number of my Japanese friends who are living in Japan had grown quite much and it was impossible to meet everyone during my one month stay. Where are you living now by the way?

It`s very true. They don`t take risks and literally look over their shoulders not to offend someone because people here tell you off if they know they are right and your unintentionally overstep something. This causes many social anxiety that you see in Japan that you won`t in other countries. It has become a low psychology society due to this extreme delineations of social engagement where society is not free in general to talk to people quite freely.
