- I’ll give you my candid and honest experiences dating in Japan, what is good or bad about dating Japanese girls. Also, I’ll explain whether some common dating stereotypes are true or not, things like, Japanese girls love foreigners or Japanese girls are easy to sleep with. I think you saved the most important tip for last. It took me roughly 4 years of living here to realize the best girls for me were ones who’d lived abroad before. More talkative, spontaneous, with a great sense of humor as well. The difference is night and day.
As an African-American man, I can 100% with the long time goal relationship. Casual dating is such a waste of time. @syfson Don't be disheartened. Girls are fickle and it could be anything. On one hand some women may feel that you were insincere and tried to sneak your way into a relationship. Bold is always best, as women appreciate honesty. On the other hand, the feeling wasn't mutual. Still if she appreciated your friendship she would have said so. Don't worry about it. Live your life and the girls will follow.

I moved to and currently live in Japan (not in the military), and I dated and married a very beautiful Japanese woman. I would agree with a lot of the things you stated, and challenge maybe only a few. Overall, I think you gave some very good pointers.
I did make my own friends, outside of work, and outside of her circle of friends. It is not so hard to make friends, but it is very very different. The common denominator between Japan and any other country, and this goes out to the general public, is that if you visit Japan, like anywhere else, have a personality and some interesting facts about yourself. And be willing and able to adjust them up or down. Also being able to communicate in the local language is a huge benefit.

I thought I was a good looking guy before I went to Japan. Girls may like foreigners but only the really handsome ones. The girls there had no problem treating my better looking brother favorably while I was there to buy concert tickets for them. Foreigners that are blonde a blue eyed fit their image of a foreigner, while dark hair and eyed guys like myself were put firmly in the friendzone.
After 5 years of living in Japan I never went on a single date, girls constantly ghosted me and I never got past a friendly handshake. Some of these girls were musicians and party chicks, and I'm sure weren't that conservative, just not with me. I would prefer dating a Japanese girl who was raised in a western society, but that hasn't happened to me either..lol

I saw the same thing in China.
I had many conversations with Chinese women who told me all about their relationships with their boyfriends or husbands. They were honest with me only because these two conditions were true: I am not Chinese, and I am not their boyfriend. A Chinese man or a boyfriend would never know anything.
I learned so much depressing stuff. I would rather be slowly gnawed to death by a starving panda bear than to be a husband in a typical Chinese marriage.

I'll add that Japanese girls also have a stereotype of foreigners that we are more romantic than Japanese guys. As a foreigner, simply giving a Japanese girl a bit of attention to meet their expectation goes a long way (ex complementing hair, dress, inviting out, etc.), but without being too aggressive (which "makes a problem" and causes them to distance you by overcompensating with "politeness"). So play into the good romantic stereotype, without going into the rude foreigner bad stereotype.

Yup. Would agree on that but qualify that those are the ones interested in foreigners. Did interact with ones in the more local hangouts and even then, relatively easy to go around the bases. Given a prevalent of Nampa culture, I would probably err on the easy side compare to back home in NA.
I am a Japanese woman. I think Japan has two groups of women. Women in one group naturally associate romance with physical relationship, and women in another group consider that sex is purely a mean of reproduction, and find her romance in the platonic part of the relationship.
I and my family and my friends belong to the latter group, but I heard that there are women in the first group. We don't understand each other beyond the group! 😓

I was a bit surprised actually, no insult intended, just that you seem to have a quite accurate grasp and even had the balls to say the truth about the difficulty of getting above average Japanese girls for even attractive and well put together foreigners. I would say the following is accurate as far as your 'points' from a Japanese girls perspective depending on your race (I'm not saying I approve of it, just that I think its accurate):
Indian: -15
Black: -20 (BUT a +50 bonus for a tiny fraction of girls, some of which are super hot)
White: -10 (White guys are kind of like bland milk toast and don't have the niche bonus Black guys get- a lot of times you will see them batting WAY below where they should be).
Hispanic/any other brown race, except indian: -5
Asian: 0

Put it this way. When I lived in Japan, I actually had a dating life lol unlike where I live and am from in London. As for what type of Japanese girls to go for, I only partially agree with dating those who are high level of English and have lived abroad because they seek to develop the same level of hypergamy or ‘dating the hottest western guys’ and ‘the bad boy types’ as women in our fucked yo western societies - they just adopt those scummy ways themselves. However, in my dating experience in Japan, I did date women who had lived abroad and spoke great English almost perfect in fact and they were often the best ones I dated for so many reasons but I also dated girls who were the opposite and they were unique in that I had a bit more of an authentic experience just spending time with them using my intermediate level of Japanese language. I also dated a Brazilian who was a quarter Japanese and she was cool. However, although it is easier to wrack up more dates and even bedroom fun with them (by the way don’t always expect that bedroom fun to be penetrative sex with all of them I will add), there always seems to be a barrier about them in terms of their affection and their openness towards people in general- even their boyfriends. And that is my summary of my dating when I lived in Japan several years ago.
