The Maverick Tremor with only a 2000 lb towing and the most towing if properly equipped is only 4000 lbs. Honda Ridgeline and Hyundai Santa Cruz properly equipped have up to 5000 lb towing packages.

EV's can only be sold once. The 2nd hand market cant evaluate how reliable they will be unlike ICE cars, so used values are peanuts. Just like most things with batteries, they are disposable and buyers dont want that. Insurance is high because insurers are nervous about the mass market being supplied with 300 - 500hp 'family cars', when they used to have 120 - 200hp. Lot more power means more accidents.

I'm told that ev batteries could only last for eight years on average. The costs of fitting new batteries would cost more then the 8 year old and therefore not economic for the owner.

People have no idea what the long range effect of switching to entirely EV's, especially when lithium batteries are involved. I work with battery powered equipment and there has been a big push to switch from lead-acid to lithium and Absorbed Glass Matting (AGM) technology. It seemed the way to go for a few years but recently the company we use to dispose of old lithium and AGM batteries announced they would no longer take them, as the lithium and other materials could not be recycled. I never knew the lithium could not be used again and makes me wonder what sort of environmental issues we're creating with disposal of these toxic materials.

40+ years in the auto repair business at the dealership level. We recently sold our Ford Flex (great car) and purchased a Chevy Bolt EUV. Best move we ever made when it comes to transportation. Our normal driving resulted in about $200/month being spent on gasoline plus all the other maintenance costs. Our Bolt is costing us about $50/month using a higher than actual $0.22/kWH rate with a light reduction in driving. Out first scheduled maintenance, paid for by GM, is at 7500 miles and consists of a tire rotation. Drives great, is extremely quiet, cheap to operate and I currently charge it using a Stage 1. If I need a faster charge rate I will do it at our local library on the Stage 2 charger in the parking lot. My experience makes all of your arguments moot. As for the environmental impact, it is not the perfect answer but it is much superior to the ICE powered vehicle.
