Snow Peaks 50 Mile Ultra Marathon 2024
On June 8th, 2024 I took on the Snow Peaks (Formally Known As Squaw Peak) 50 Mile Ultra Marathon in Provo Utah. The SP50 is one of the oldest 50 Mile ultramarathons in the nation and is an outstanding 50 Milers with breathtaking views.
Even with the 2024 course change because of excess snow on the peaks, the course did no disappoint. Boasting over 11,000 feet of elevation gain up to altitudes near 8,000 feet pushed me to my limits.
Thank you so much to the people I met along the way that were a significant part of the process and really the only reason I got through. I would not have been able to do it without you. You know who you are!
In June 2022 I was 240 pounds and losing the battle to alcoholism. After finding a joy for running again I decided to turn my life around. Since then, I have continued my running journey, finishing a few ultramarathons and dreaming big. This video is a part of that journey.

Are the poles jumping out of the quiver because it stays open?
No. My poles don’t have legs 😁
Great video Brad, inspirational and you made it look easy. 👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you so much for the kind words
I am tying to think about sizing for the R1. Can you tell me the length measurement of your foot? I also usually use size 11 US shoes.
No idea what it is. I do know I where a 29 ski boot if that helps. 11 in hokas. 11.5 in asic novablast.
@@bradfinntrains Thank you! Going to give these a try.

Great video! Thank you!
You are welcome!
great review, looks good for multi day race and daily training since it's lightweight and so breathable
I like them
Inspiring. Thank you for sharing and always motivating people to move forward.
Thanks for watching and for the kind words
Great video. Shows the highs and lows of an ultra. Glad you chose to finish.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks mate your message was very accurate Im going to buy it
No problem 👍
I don’t know if you’ve thought about merch, but if you do I’d buy a hate or shirt that says “Full Send” 😀. Thanks again for your honesty! Love the video. Keep up the great work.
I haven’t. But that does play over and over in my head. Haha
Well done Brad! I’m inspired by your willingness to never quit!!! Was that harder than your recent 100 miler?
I compared the in the most recent podcast episode. Short story, canyons was harder physically, but I suffered way more in the 50
What a grind, well done. Go Abby!
She’s a rock star!
What a roller coaster. Well done
Thanks so much!
the most inspiring person ever 🏃🔥
I hope to see you out in the trails!
He’s just as good as physics teacher as an ultra runner👏👏🙌🏻🙌🏻🏃🏃🥼🥼
I’m a much better physics teacher 🤗
Physics teacher, runner, and video editor all in one! Very talented
Wow, thank you for the kind words!
Love this! So raw. And that shot lying in the river - brilliant! Congrats on the finish.
Thank so much. Was a tough day for sure. Embraced the suck!
I've said it multiple times before and will say it again. Love the story telling. Well done.
I appreciate you!
Let’s get it Brad !!
Thanks Abby! You’re the best!
Great shoe review. It seems like Mount to Coast do know a lot about ultra running.
They have done a good job so far!
Great shoe review, could also work on groomed, non-technical trails. Sounds like your dropping hints of an upcoming road ultra lol. Maybe Comrades?!
😉
Cool review. Shoe looks interesting. Possible backyard night loops shoe???
Most definitely!
You just sold another pair! Thanks for the info.
Glad I could help!
Well hell...now I want to do 200+ mile races. Think I better get through the first 50k. Really enjoyed the episode!!
Thanks so much Mike. 200 one day for sure!
I never liked Spring…but…even tho I hated em, I have used em for a couple big races like Leadville and States for one reason only: big calories in small packets (I was using Speednut and Awesomesauce) . For me, I do hope they get sued, regardless of the outcome, because I want other nutrition manufacturers to be put on notice to get it right. We’re paying for calories, plain and simple, and we’re trusting them to get it right. If they don’t, there should be consequences. The results I’ve seen from a handful of other company’s products are encouraging to me, but just goes to show how much faith we put in the info they give us…
I understand a bunch of people are angry. Usually they are the same people slamming Coca Cola, potato chips, Swedish fish, pbj, and mm’s at aid stations during races. I guess proper nutrition only matters when it comes to gels.
Well I think there’s a distinction: there’s your foundational, base layer of nutrition and then the other stuff you sprinkle in along the way. If you’re selling sports nutrition products, your entire business model is “you can trust us to be your foundation”. And we do. At the very least, we should get what we’re being told we’re buying. And after all, Gummy Bears never made us any promises! 😂
Man, you are cranking out some really good episodes. Keeping me motivated and learning some new tips along the way.
Appreciate the kind words! Thanks man!
just did north rim to south in 11 hours . if i ever do it again, i will be trail running instead of walking with a heavy pack
Right on. Great job!
Thanks for mentioning the feed , I will definitely give them a try.
Great one stop shop. Look for their Strava challenge. You a discount when you complete it.
I don't take SE and I don't live under a rock, I do listen to Jason Koop's podcasts lol. What a PR disaster. I guess Sage Canaday and Ruth Croft should look for new nutrition sponsors.
I know a few athletes that may need a new sponsor for sure. I should give them a call. Haha. Get in at the ground level!

good video, thanks
You're welcome
I love Chris' content! Stoked you had him on!
Right on! He’s a good dude for sure!
Hey guys, awesome podcast tonight! I’m Dave and I am an alcoholic with 7 years sobriety, I’m also a 3x marathon and soon to be ultra marathon runner at 53 ! I’m glad you guys talked about the loops, this definitely one thing I am struggling with mentally and I’m trying to figure out how to make that time pass . Maybe I’ll call a different person every hour lol. I will close with I talk about my alcoholism worse than a runner talks about training 🤣 but because of that I have had a couple coworkers feel comfortable enough to call me for help, one i took to the hospital and he is alive and well, had he not called he wouldn’t be here ! Spreading the message and letting people know it’s okay to be sober and healthy is a good thing! All the best ~Dave
Thank you so much Dave. You have always supported me. Please know that I think about your support often and hope to have as much success as you have! Best of luck in your race.
Awesome video, just picked up a quiver to help carry my first set of poles after just getting into trail running this spring. High value commentary and insight in this video, much appreciated.
Appreciate it. Definitely helpful for poles. Glad to help
Fun episode! Got my wife listening now too. 👍
Let’s gooooo
Great review, seriously the best explanation of why you would need an adv skin 5 vs 12. I was confused on what to do until I saw this. Do you think it has enough space to run commute to work? I would need to fit a pair of jeans and a polo shirt. A pair of sneakers would be nice too, but I imagine that it wouldn't fit. Ps: Did you end up running your 1 mile for your 1,000 subscribers at the end of 2023?
Right on. Got the Miles. Hit 1,000 mid February
i keep getting one on the outside of my pinky toe. hopefully this works
Best of luck.
Wonderful to hear of Tara’s success from her perspective. Also, her loving comments for you Brad were heartwarming
Thank you so much for listening and for the kind words!
Look forward to your review. Never heard of these. 😎👍🏻
50 miles or so and it will be out
Great episode! Tara needs to be a regular co-host. At least once a month. #50KReady
Thanks Mike!!
Great stream! Fun to see you and Tara together. =)
Thanks for the visit
Do you have a video where you show exactly how it sits in your salomon vest and how much does it bounce?
It goes in my quiver usually
Do you think you could use an insta360 x4 attached to selfie stick in this during rock climbing/scrambling in the mountains? What is your experience of using it with the insta360?
90% of it’s usage is for that. Haha
@bradfinntrains sorry what I mean to say is can you use it with the selfie stick extended to maximum height so I can take 3rd person shots of me hiking, scrambling and climbing? I.e. it will give the impression of a drone following me. Or will the insta360 bounce too much when extended beyond my head and sitting in the quiver. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and any tips on doing this
