In interview he asked only one question where are you going i replied him nicely on 221g form he ticked on the line administration processing nothing more he ask nor he told me to show some documents .Plz advice this is very weak case or i have to keep some hope.
i got yellow slip
Most likely they will do background check now on your case.

Sir, thank you for the video. I am a graduate in aerospace engineering, and I am unsure whether to pursue a master’s degree or go straight to a direct PhD. My goal is to work in the industry, but I am afraid that completing a PhD without professional experience might make it harder to find a job in the aerospace industry.
My personal opinion is that it is better to do a Master’s degree first. See this video Dangers of doing a PhD without masters! th-cam.com/video/Ba02fSPgDyM/w-d-xo.html
I had an interview Visa K1 They gave me a blue paper that said “you have been found ineligible to receive a visa under section 221g” It ask for me to show evidence of date of return to Mexico. Does it mean I’m going to get the visa after showing proof? Please reply
221g means that the decision will be made once more information is available. So you need to send any information asked. They may then give you the visa unless some more background checks are warranted.
Sir, in Europe, do two people keep on conversing in their own language when everyone is there within an academic setting? For instance, say one Indian encounters a Pakistani at a conference. Will they talk in hindi/urdu/punjabi or stick to english only in front of others?
Both situations are possible. They don’t care about what other people think.
@Drganguli However, are people forced to talk in a language anywhere or english is acceptable by everyone even in rooms or at a private place? I meant to say that if an Indian and a Pakistani do research in the same department at the same university, will one force the other to avoid english when they communicate just in the first person's favour?
@ If the person does not reply in the native language then they will switch to English.
@@Drganguli This should happen all the time in my opinion. I really get disheartened when I hear that Indians have Indianized different parts of the english-speaking countries, particularly London and New York.
@ Yes the problem is if you reply in a language then the conversation will shift in that direction. It also leads to ghettoes being formed in line with ethnic groups and religions
Hello sir. Can you plz say how many publications are good for getting these fellowships?

what is talent after all sir ? hard work done intelligently ? how to develop intelligence ? learn how to learn ? learn how to find robust solutions. consider all approaches. understand where your understanding fit into the big puzzule, get the big picture. identify your biases in your thought process.. develop the flow for working... meet sit eat with the people solving the similar problem... or if you are doing something new then isolate yourself from the world for 6 months.... bore your family members by discussing your weird ideas with them.... help someone to understand the topic... learning the models of decision making to identify how actually we are approaching the problem.. read the biographies of big personalities to take inspiration from their journey... i think comfort is the enemy of talent... but you should be comfortable to fail 1000 times... another point - sir considering we are the same AI model with some persons having more neurons than other, but we can increase the number of neurons by taking the right nutrients, meditation, exercise both physical and mental... all we have to do is training the model on more diverse and diverse data.. so that we can identify the pattern in diverse fields .. and we even might not be aware from where its coming...
Yes there is of course the nature vs nurture debate and ways to ameliorate the situation if one does not have a head start in life.
Sir, according to your viewpoint, in which Western European countries one can land on a PhD position in mathematics without much difficulty as compared to the other nations?
This is hard to say and depends on the sub field. But Germany is a good place to try.
@Drganguli I have heard that Germany has the most stringent PhD application procedure in Europe. If you can get a PhD admit in Germany, you can easily presume that you will be able to bag a PhD position anywhere else in Europe. What about UK?
what is monolog ??

Sir, while sending the referral, is it fine if the professor does not mention the name of the prospective PhD supervisor and the university?
Not mentioning PhD advisor is fine but people often mention university name if that helps the case. Otherwise they can just say that the person has a PhD degree. A good reference letter should amplify the positive qualities of the applicant.
Sir, could you please make a video on how scientific inquiry shapes one's perspective?
Sure I will
Sir, I actually have a story in this regard. Not too helpful or value-adding to the video, but I still wanted to put it out. I too was of the opinion which is the general consensus apparently, that "Social Science is a useless subject, why is it even taught to us?" until even the 10th grade (even though I loved all the chapters of all the subjects in 9th grade, including social science, which didn't happen earlier, as in some year's syllabus had some interesting chapters in a subject, some boring, and sometimes even the whole subject's syllabus for that year was boring. Byt the syllabi for Maths and Science I always loved for each year. But 9th grade was such a perfect experience for me, as that year, each subject had such interesting chapters in it, that just made the whole year so full of enjoyment. The syllabus for S.St. too was no exception for 9th grade, but even though I found it interesting, I didn't think it was useful.), which is why I failed in my S.St. preboards, due to which I couldn't fulfill the criteria for PCM Science stream and so had to sit in Humanities for the first 3 months (which is the time when we are assigned streams as per the preboard marks, before the board results were announced. Luckily I scored enough to get PCM after boards results, which is what I will be getting to in a moment.) Well, I failed in S.St. due to a 2 very specific reasons: 1. I have a very bad memory, and am just the absolute worst at rote-learning. Which is one of the reasons I love science, its fixed, and the results can be deduced if forgotten. And to me, S.St. was just all about rote-learning of many-many paragraphs, just to spit it back onto the paper in exams. 2. I can't start learning, and understanding, a subjects matter, until I understood what is the use of the thing we are learning, as in, "How is it of any use to me and society? Where will the things we are learning be applied?", which I just couldn't figure out for S.St.. (In fact, these 2 were also the reason that Biology and Geography fell into a grey area for me. As in, biology even though being a part of science, felt more like just rote-learning (I guess because of how bio was taught as just a bunch of facts until high scool), and on the other hand, geography even though being a part of S.St., felt the most "science-ey" out of the 4- History, Civics, Geography and Economics. Again, the same thing, for Bio and S.St in 9th, found the syllabus interesting, but still just as a bunch of interesting facts, not useful. I guess the Civics was a bit bearable too, other than Geo, as it started to talk about parliamentary and government structures and organisations and their mechanisms.) So anyway, coming back to the original story, When I failed in 10th grade S.St. pre-board, since I wasn't the only one to score badly, my school had set up some remedial (revision) classes in for weaker students of each subject. So I was listed for all for parts of S.St., which is when I first learnt about how to break large answers into smaller memorisable chunks, using keywords, mnemonics, etc. and then we also had daily revision tests of the syllabus. So the classes helped me learn how to learn, and also to learn the syllabus. Then once I got to know how to learn long texts, I started using it, and started seeing patterns and realised the way NCERT books organised the contents of its chapters in history and economics, is more like a story (which I then found way easier to learn, as I had been the one who in language exams, for the literature section, preferred just reading the stories once and remembering the complete flow of the story, rather than memorise all the QnAs at the back of the chapter, unlike what my other friends were doing). At this point of time, my view of S.St. changed, but still, it changed from "S.St. is useless." to "S.St. is just a practice for us to learn large texts, which can be useful in the real world where to say anything conclusive about things, we need to remember a lot of details.". I finally understood the point of the subject, in 11th grade, in the 3 month period prior to board results, when I had to sit in Humanities classes- this time also served to break my stereotype of Humanities being useless and the students just being the ones who just wanted to have a 12th pass certificate in hand, when I saw that they too have to go through the same amount of effort and hardwork as any other stream, in fact, even somewhat more than the other streams. This was also same time around which I started understanding what an IAS and other government officials do, and how it is important to know every in-and-out of a situation before making any decis on a matter in their job. This was finally when I understood completely what was the point of studying History, Civics, Geography, Economics, Laws, and Finance. Sadly, by that time, I had reached the end of my journey with the subject, (😅I still didn't love it enough to change my mind of becoming an astronomer, so took PCM (luckily scored enough in the boards, thanks to the more linient marking in boards than pre-boards, as well as the newly learnt learning techniques which were applied while learning S.St., my weakest subject, I was able to get PCM) but the experience had left me with utter respect for the subject and an appreciation for the stream.)
Thanks for sharing your journey in great detail. It reads like an essay. Good that you found your way in PCM but as I mention in the video, larger issues in the world in politics, diplomacy and government relations totally rely on social science. In fact social sciences are used to build narratives to help countries and groups of people
@@Drganguli 😄 Glad you read it. And yes, you are absolutely correct in pointing out the importance of politics, diplomacy, and government relations. In fact, right after I realised the importance and the power of a bureaucrat, was also when I realised the wide ranging possibilities and domino effect of shaping the outsiders opinion. This led to my fascination with secret services, and how important is a highly educated middleman in order to mediate community in between 2 organisations (be it inter-city, inter-state, or even the feeding of false information into a channel in order to deviate a competitor). Intelligence Services are just in a whole different league.
How about HR field is concerned? How many Papers are required in this area of research?
If you check new faculty in this area in universities or institutes where research and publishing are considered to be important, you will find the correct number by checking out their CV or Google scholar information. There is by fixed number by the way. People can get PHD without any paper if the thesis examiners and advisor think they have made enough contribution in their dissertation to the research area. Well that is a cynical take way to look at academia. To be happy in academics one must have a reverence for research, teaching, writing and publications. Otherwise one should be in corporate world. Both types of people are needed and different cultures and communities and subgroups of people are more amenable to each. You can see this in the successful professors at top institutions.

A friend of mine made an interesting remark when we were in undergrad perhaps a decade ago. She said that if you look at the male/female distribution within academic disciplines, the _best_ predictor of this across disciplines is how much the field is perceived as "talent-driven" vs. "hard-work-driven." So something like physics - where the best people like Einstein or Feynman are viewed as "very intelligent" - is male-dominated, because it's viewed as talent-driven. On the other hand, nursing is female-dominated because it's viewed as hard-work-driven. Or even within science, compare physics vs. biology in their gender distributions. She herself was in philosophy, which despite being in the humanities apparently has a huge sexism problem, and she noted that it fits here: to become a philosopher you have to be viewed as smart, not hardworking, so the male prevalence is expected.
Interesting observation
The equation I've usual seen is that success equals hard work times talent. But then as a follow-up, pay equals success times desirability. So whether or not to switch fields based on pay is influenced by both your talent and the desirability of the field. So it *may* be worth it, financially, to switch to a field with higher desirability where you have less talent, provided you don't have zero talent. And of course it makes little sense to study a field with *no* desirability, even if you are talented. On the other hand, pay isn't the only metric - you may be happier being more successful at a less-high-paying job if you're doing that job better. If I were to write an equation, I'd say happiness=log(pay)+success. So if your pay is low, it matters a lot, but if your pay is high, it matters little. ------- That said: the level of competition is different between academia and other disciplines. In most careers, you can survive just fine without being at the top of the game, so long as you're doing adequately - who cares who the world's best garbageman is? Or honestly, in most respects, even the world's best doctor, when usually you're just going to go to the best one in your local area? You can form a career just fine without being one of the *best.* But academia isn't like this; it's so hard to get a job that you basically need both high talent and good work ethic (or decent talent and *extraordinary* work ethic) to find one.
Are 221g form and 221g letter both same thing? Pls reply I am confused
The 221g typically gives you a form with a checklist of documents needed and a number which allows you to track the administrative processing on the appropriate web page. To the best of my knowledge it is a form and not a letter.
However, sir, the question remains unanswered. Why would "A Nation" want "A PhD"?
Because PhD’s write papers and these further research training and capability in a country for economic and national security. Hello there,,Your video quality is amazing but you are missing something while uploading the video due to which your video is not reaching lots of people
Yes my videos are on esoteric topics and get views with time. See my experience here Three Video Types Every TH-cam Creator Needs to Know! th-cam.com/video/zALV2caCCiM/w-d-xo.html
@Drganguli You have knowledge about youtube seo
Make a video why bengali community in India good in higher education and research?
Cultural thing
Good idea
Because they can't build anything of value and are lazy. No business in Bengal. What to do after MSc ? Do PhD. That's why. No other reason. This community will be the next Biharis in making. Worst of all.
Please make this video @@Drganguli
@@physics4627 Yea added to my list of tasks will get done soon
Sir, is 8.2 a good cgpa to apply to top German universities for PhD in chemistry, fro a BS-MS student from IISER with 3 research internship experience and a decent masters thesis.
Yes looks like a good record.
For a PHD guy, he sure could take a class on how to raise his microphone volume
I think I speak too softly. Some people raise the volume during editing but I don’t edit these videos. I record them in PowerPoint, save as video and then upload them. Any hints are welcome
“Your natural sounds are so immersive! I’ve noticed that channels in this niche often attract a lot of viewers when they use carefully chosen tags. Just a thought that could help bring your videos to more people!”
Yes I have to improve tags. But nowadays title and description are more important according to most TH-cam experts. The SECRET to Reaching 10000 Subscribers on TH-cam! th-cam.com/video/jWHzUJHRYhY/w-d-xo.html But you are right. The seo journey is a never ending one including all words said in the video as TH-cam uses these too
Sir, if someone pursues a PhD from one university which is not included in the QS World Rankings, what can be the repercussions?
Rank matters for faculty jobs but much less for industry or research lab jobs. See this video Impress the Professor with your CV! th-cam.com/video/snXZY73039M/w-d-xo.html
@Drganguli Is it possible to join a research lab permanently after postdoc?
@ yes of course and many do
@@Drganguli If possible, please make a video on how to transition from postdoc to research lab.
@ ok good idea
Pretty good video; thank you, Dr Ganguli. I work remotely. I used to work as a software engineer, and I started studying for an MSc in Computer Science in a (legit) UK university. This along with my skills and performance, helped me get a promotion from Software Engineer to Technical Leader. I think getting a PhD would be beneficial for my career, but I find it very very hard because it is way more expensive than an MSc and funding for Latin American countries and online PhDs is not common. Can you please indicate me where I can get funding for a future PhD (online in Computer Science)?
There are several universities which give online doctorates but these can be expensive. A good approach may be to do a part time degree from your own country which is often possible. See this video Get your PhD while doing a Job! th-cam.com/video/i0PeAUEFjtw/w-d-xo.html There are scholarships for doing PhD in Europe etc but you will have to move.
