Overlanding - Go with me & Grow with me! I am a fairly new Jeep Overlander based in Ohio going on various adventures to stretch my experiences. I own a 2017 Jeep Rubicon Hard Rock. My goal is to continue to expand my Overlanding capabilities and places I go and share my learnings/experiences with you and take you along for the adventure. I will share the locations I Overland and what equipment I am using and how it is performing. I have found through this so far, I really enjoy camping and all that goes with it as well. So please join me as we Grow and Go together.
S6:E7 Jeep Cold Winter Tent Camping Overlanding Adventure
I was traveling back from South Carolina to Ohio after Thanksgiving and stopped in the Appalachian mountains in West Virginia to camp after a long day of driving. I was the only person camping in the 12 primitive campsites at Camp Creek. It got down to 19 degrees and I used my Buddy Heater to keep my summer tent warm. I bought a zero degree sleeping bag and come to find out it is a zero degrees celsius not Fahrenheit bag that is 32 degrees different!!! I did not bring my Gazelle tent on this trip since I was visiting people and had to pack all my standard clothes and stuff, so to make room, I packed my small tent (big mistake because it failed me). I also had someone come into my camp during the night I had to deal with that as well and it was caught on video. But I had a wonderful time camping within 6 feet of a rushing stream, come join the adventure and encouragement!

This Ohio Wayne National Forest Fall jeep overlanding camping experience was a first for me! Met several new people and made new friends. We also went off-roading together, had demo's around the campfire, d...

I used my Jackery 500 and 100W solar panel to keep my tent office up and running during the day and enjoyed camp life after 5:00. My Gazelle T4 Overlander tend does so well in the wind and we had some high winds during the night. But no flapping and shaking noises. I had it staked down real well and you can rest assur...

Don't know how I skipped over this video. Glad to have found it today, I do enjoy your videos and your teachings/encouragement.
I am glad you found it too! Happy New Year and keep close to God! Stay strong in the Lord!
My favorite season is off season.
You got that right!! Thanks for watching!
great video man thanks.!
@@1StarAtlas thanks for watching! Hope you can get out and camp!
Nice Camp. Thanks for sharing brother.
Thanks for watching, brother! I am glad you enjoyed it! I really enjoy that camp!
My kinda campin’. Quiet and few people around is so peaceful. Just not a great idea to walk up on someone in the dark.
For sure, I have had that happen 3 times since I have been camping. You always need to be ready.
great video love that you shared Jesus!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching! God Bless!
Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching!
Wonderful video and I always enjoy your Bible readings. Could you share what roof rack you’re using? Thanks
It is a Smittybilt Defender. It does not have the ability to mount a roof top tent. I do now have an awning attached to it. it is a good rack to carry things, sometimes I have loaded items in a waterproof roof bag. Otherwise I have an Ax mounted to one side and the my traction boards up top. Hope this helps. I have had it 5 years and no rust.
@@rubiconmattThanks
Cool be safe and prepared better than sorry But all angels will protect u & guard u in name of the lord Buy T3x u lovve it doesn’t take lot of space fit in back of jeep good too
I have a gazelle T4 Overland tent I normally use, is the T3 a gazelle product as well? I used the small Coleman tent because I was traveling and had a bunch of other things than camping equipment. So I took a portable tent. Thanks for watching and the encouragement back!!
Beats a hotel any day of the week!
You got that right!! Thanks for watching!
Great camping videos! Thanks for sharing and more importantly thanks for sharing with others about Jesus!
Thanks for watching! Hope you can get out and camp! Keep following Jesus! He is the only Way!
@@rubiconmattabsolutely!!!
Why would you sacrifice the Gazelle T4 tent for that small Coleman? Just curious. I own a T4, and I would definitely want the extra space.
I was traveling and had a bunch of other non camp stuff for my visit with my dad in SC so I took a small tent to make room. That’s the only reason. I love my Gazelle!!
Another great adventure in the great outdoors. I have been to that camp ground before and had a great time. Bummer on the zipper failure although I would say the tent has held up great for it's age. Also good save on the repair to finish the night. Best wishes with 2025 God Bless
Thanks for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I will use my Gazelle full time now. It should do better on the winter as well since it can seal up except for the roof. Have a strong 2025!
Great video and encouragement as always. Just bought 2 new diesel heaters, need to get out and try them on a winter camping night.
Thanks for watching! It’s always a blast to get out there in the winter! I may try a diesel heater soon!! God bless!
<3 I love this!!! God is good man. Do you live in ohio? I'm getting my rig together for 2025 so my son and I can adventure. WE will have to meet up man! Love this!
Thanks for watching! I live in Ohio, I am posting another new video today of a cold winter camping experience I just had recently. What kind of rig do you have? We want to plan a winter meet up sometime in late January or February. We will see. God Bless!
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Looks like Tyler State Park here in Texas.
Thanks for watching! I have been to Texas a lot for work but not for pleasure. We have a plant in Amarillo and have been to the large canyons in that area. Amazing!
Merry Christmas and God bless to you and your family sir
Back at ya! Thanks for watching!
I missed this one somehow. Great fellowship and great times. I was able to lead someone to the Lord one time on break at work and I will never forget it. Have a great week
Thanks for watching! It’s always great to see God working in peoples’ lives.
I really enjoyed this peaceful video Matt
I am glad you enjoyed the peacefulness of it, it was a great trip! I would love to go back when I travel south, but it is long drive for me.
Another great video. I have been watching your videos for quite some time. We also enjoy overlanding and dispersed camping mostly in Ohio and WV. Merry Christmas and God Bless.
Thanks for watching, let's keep getting out there! I am looking forward to some snowy winter camping. I have not yet been in any real substantial snow yet. God Bless!
Cool. I need to figure out how to get out for the mini-adventure like you do (when it warms up just a little). Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks for watching! It’s the best, just get out and do it! You got this!
I love Lake Norman State Park. We camp there quite often. We were there that same weekend. My daughter and I were a couple sites down from you in the blue and white Blazer with the Gazelle tent.
I believe I had video of your site! You had a good one!! Closer to the water. I love my Gazelle vs. my other tents! What state are you from? We rented a house on Lake Norman the week of the hurricane came through so we canceled the trip. We normally stay at the beach, but this place is special!
@ We live only about 15 mins from Lake Norman State Park. We like to camp, hike, mountain bike there. It’s a beautiful place.
In my rtt for the night, watching you camp 🤙
That is so awesome! Thanks for watching.
Love it Matt!
My kinda travel. I used to travel camp like this all the time headed from Oklahoma to Ohio to see family.
I just bought a similar tent, but in green. Thanks for reading that scripture to us all. It is so true about trying to live and deal with the evil that has been running our country for the past 4 years. Thank God President Trump won and hopefully this will bring an end to all the evil, woke, debauchery that has plagued our society. God is Good and Jesus Christ loves us and has our backs.😊 I plan to do some similar camping here in Arkansas and really look forward to using this tent. Cheers!
Enjoy the tent!!! I am going to release a couple videos over the next several days. I drove to SC to visit my dad and had to pack for that visit as well as camping so I took my more compact tent. It worked well the on the way down, but wait and see what happens when I head home and camp in WV. I wish I had my Gazelle! God Bless!
That was so very awesome. I wish we were there. Congratulations Brian, a new brother in Christ. Praise God!
Amen!
Great video! Make me want to buy a Jeep and go camping!!!!
Thanks for watching!! It is a blast!
Amazing location beautiful
Thanks for watching, I really liked it except for the road noise.
Praise god he’s saved and got baptized.
Amen! Awesome experience!
Matt - I’m so sorry I missed the chance to meet up by canceling my reservation. I look forward for the winter meet-up. Of course I’ll be in the Ram rather than on a motorcycle.
I look forward to the next one and will send out a video to give us time to book around each other.
Wow Rubicon Matt. This is an amazing and wonderful video, excitement and occasion! Btw - I am a personal friend of Oklahoma Eric. I grew up near his parents.
Randy - Thanks for watching and that is great that you know Eric!!! it was great meeting him and his brother Bryan!!
Hey Matt, have you explored any of the diesel heater options instead of the Buddy? Dry heat, so no condensation or potential ice. Might be worth exploring, they are relatively inexpensive.
They use electricity from a battery to keep going is that correct? How much does it use in a night of electricity? I am looking forward to winter camping and would consider using one. Any brand you recommend for a tent? Is it noisy? Thanks for watching and hope we can work it out to all get together for a meet up!
They pull about 150 W for about four minutes while the glow plug heats up. Once the heater is ignited and running, the battery shows about 15 W being pulled. I did a lot of research and noticed that some of the units out there have a loud fuel pump that ticks or they can leak diesel. The one I ended up getting is from LF Bros and it is the N2 model. It is super quiet, has an automotive style gas cap so it won’t leak in the back of my Bronco, and it was relatively inexpensive. Plus, it kind of looks cool. No affiliation, just personal research.
Luke 15:7 *I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent* It's great seeing folks being Baptized! I've heard that the Church has grown in this way in NC in the aftermath of the flooding there. The Church has really stepped up down there in the wake of the flooding.
Thanks for watching! It was a great day!
Awesome time! So glad this worked out the way it did. We made great memories and were there with Bryan to begin a new!
Amen! One of my favorite overlanding experiences!! So glad to meet everyone and watch Bryan go all in following Jesus!

the Bible makes everything better! Thanks for watching! I love using a buddy heater in the winter, I have several videos where I use it. I am looking forward to some winter again! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Enjoy yer vids. How long can you run your fridge on the jackery 500 without charging the jackery. With the solar power , how long does it take to charge the jackery. Also , not an overlander, but has a mercury sable wagon. Can me and my wife come down (from Akron).
Sure you can join us, check out what sites are available. I could run my Jackery 500 for two days to keep my fridge running no problem in the summer when it is warm. But most of the time I would set the solar panel out to get some free electricity and when I would get home I would still have 40% battery life. Thanks for watching.
MEET UP POSTPONED DUE TO FIRE/FLAME BAN!!! Please try to get refunded. I spoke to the Burr Oak Park Ranger today and he said ALL (Anything) that has a flame (jet boil, lighter, stove, propane anything, anything that creates a flame/spark, etc.) is band right now due to the drought. This band he told me is in effect until we get at least five inches of rain. So with that much rain needed (which I do not see coming), I spoke to a couple other folks signed up and we all agreed, we should postpone until we get the green light, then schedule something. I like cold weather camping anyways! I am sure sorry this did not work out, but we will put something on the calendars once the band is lifted. Please confirm back you got this in the comment section. God bless and stay strong in the Lord!
